I'm debating with the wife about going to the Panthers v Wild game. Money's tight and it's a school night, but it's the season opener in our new town... it's like fate is telling me to go. We'll see.

I get it DLine.....it is an expensive night out and you have dinner out $$$.... park the car $$$...have a couple beers $$$...and tickets in the Nose Bleeds are $$$.....the night is probably 200 US Dollars Each.....it is hard to negotiate that with your wife.

BUT.........it's your Team in St.Pauls Minn. and I have the Panthers going back to playoff's in 2023/2024 season...Good young team.

Sam Howell takes five more sacks Thursday night, on pace for 99 this season

Commanders quarterback Sam Howell is taking sacks like no other quarterback. By the end of this season, he may have taken more sacks than any quarterback in any season in NFL history.

Howell took five more sacks in Thursday night’s loss to the Bears, giving him a total of 29 sacks through the first five games of the season. No other quarterback is close (Daniel Jones is next with 22 sacks), and Howell also has lost more yardage on sacks than any other quarterback in the NFL this season, with 185 yards lost (Jones is second with 131).

Over a 17-game season, Howell’s current total would project to 99 sacks. The NFL record for most times sacked in a season is 76, set by David Carr with the expansion Texans in 2002.

Howell is also losing yardage on sacks like no other quarterback ever. His current total would project to a total of 629 yards lost on sacks in a 17-game season. The NFL record for yards lost on sacks in a season is 489, set by Randall Cunningham with the Eagles in 1986.

At this point, if Howell doesn’t break the all-time sacked record, it may be because a quarterback taking this many sacks won’t last 17 games. It’s a major problem facing Howell and the Commanders.

Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo clears concussion protocol, to play Monday vs. Packers

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has cleared the concussion protocol and will play in Monday night's showdown versus the Green Bay Packers, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Friday, per sources.

The Athletic first reported the news.

Garoppolo missed Week 4's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers while in the concussion protocol. The 31-year-old veteran has completed 68.1% of his passes for 709 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions in three games this season.

Steelers QB Kenny Pickett (knee) off injury report, to play vs. Ravens

As he said he would, Kenny Pickett will be back under center for Sunday's AFC North heavyweight battle.

Pickett, who left a Week 4 loss due to a knee bruise, is set to play against the rival Baltimore Ravens on Sunday as the Steelers quarterback was not listed on Friday's official injury report.

Pickett said Wednesday he'd be “ready to go by Sunday” and followed suit with a full week of practice, moving from limited on Wednesday to full on Thursday and Friday.

Near the end of the third quarter of Pittsburgh's 30-6 loss to Houston in Week 4, Pickett was injured on a sack. He was quickly ruled out, and NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Monday that Pickett could undergo a short-term absence, but the door was open for him to possibly play this week. He'll do just that as the Steelers (2-2) host the first-place Ravens (3-1), but whether Pickett's healthy or not, the Steelers' offense has largely been unwell through four games.

The Steelers offense is ranked 29th in yards gained this season, with Pickett passing for 803 yards (200.8 per game), four touchdowns and four interceptions.

As a rookie, Pickett started against the Ravens twice and went 1-1. In his first tilt against Baltimore, Pickett attempted just one pass in a 16-14 loss in which he exited the game due to a concussion and did not return. He gained a measure of revenge on New Year's Day when he helped Pittsburgh to a 16-13 win.

Lamar Jackson’s completion percentage up, interceptions down in Ravens’ new offense

The Ravens have a new offense this season, and quarterback Lamar Jackson has been a new passer.

Jackson’s completion percentage is at a career-high 74.3 percent this season. That’s a huge increase from his career completion percentage of 63.7 percent before into this season. Jackson is the only quarterback in the NFL who has completed more than 70 percent of his passes in all four games of this season.

Jackson’s interceptions are also down this year, as he’s thrown just one pick in 105 passes, or an interception rate of just under 1 percent. Before this season, Jackson’s career completion rate was 2.3 percent.

New Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken deserves a lot of credit for the way Jackson’s play has changed. When Monken became the Ravens’ offensive coordinator in February, he revealed his six pillars for a successful offense, and No. 1 was, “Don’t turn it over.” Monken is taking a more cautious approach to the passing game, and it’s working.

The down side to the more cautious approach is that Jackson isn’t making as many big plays down field. His average yards per completion this season is 10.2, down from his career average of 11.6 yards per completion before this season.

Monken also has Jackson running the ball a little less (55.0 yards per game, Jackson’s lowest per-game average since becoming the Ravens’ starter as a rookie), although “a little less” for Jackson still means leading all NFL quarterbacks with 220 rushing yards this season.

The 3-1 Ravens are in first place in the AFC North, and if they beat the Steelers on Sunday they’ll have wins over all three division rivals and will be the clear favorites in the division. Thanks to Jackson’s play in Monken’s offense.

Anthony Richardson is dealing with another injury.

The Colts’ rookie quarterback went down late in the second quarter after gaining 4 yards on a designed run. Richardson stayed on the turf and immediately pointed to his right shoulder. He was able to get up under his own power and go to the medical tent on the sideline for further examination.

He then was shown on the CBS broadcast headed to the locker room.

    He's questionable to return.

Arthur Smith: Great to see Desmond Ridder respond this week

Week Four’s trip to London was a rough one for Falcons quarterback Desmond Ridder, but he found smoother sailing back on his side of the Atlantic Ocean.

After throwing two interceptions in a 23-7 loss to the Jaguars, Ridder was sharp in leading the Falcons to a 19-17 win over the Texans at home. He completed 28-of-37 passes for 329 yards and a touchdown in the win and also ran for a score. He capped the afternoon by hitting on all five passes he attempted for 44 yards on the game-winning drive at the end of the fourth quarter.

It’s the first time Ridder passed the 300-yard mark in his NFL career and head coach Arthur Smith said after the game that bouncing back from the Jaguars loss was a good sign about the kind of player Ridder can be.

“I think it says a lot about him; it’s a tough job to be a quarterback in this league,” Smith said, via the team’s website. “That’s what they sign up for. A lot of those guys are well compensated, [but it] takes a special mindset. He’s got the right mindset. We know there’s a lot of work to do. If we think we have all the answers today and we don’t continue to improve and grow, you’ll get humbled pretty quick. We’re not going to take any victory laps. We’re very pleased, and it was great to see his response this week.”

Ridder’s first year as a starter in the NFL will likely feature more stumbles and his ability to weather them while finding a way to perform better in the future will be a crucial part of his development. Sunday was a good sign on that front.

Patrick Mahomes becomes youngest QB to beat all 31 other teams

When the Chiefs beat the Vikings on Sunday, it added to Patrick Mahomes’ growing list of accomplishments: He has now beaten all 31 teams in the NFL, except the team he plays for.

Mahomes hadn’t beaten the Vikings yet because he hadn’t played them yet. The only other time in Mahomes’ career that the Chiefs faced the Vikings, Mahomes was injured and backup Matt Moore led the Chiefs to a victory. With Sunday’s win in Minnesota, Mahomes has now beaten every team except the Chiefs.

At age 28, Mahomes is the youngest quarterback to accomplish that feat. All the other quarterbacks who have beaten 31 other teams were in their 30s when they beat their 31st opponent.

Mahomes is one of five quarterbacks who have beaten every team except the one they played on for most or all of their careers: Alex Smith also beat every team but the Chiefs, Ben Roethlisberger beat every team but the Steelers, Russell Wilson has beaten every team but the Seahawks and Aaron Rodgers has beaten every team but the Packers.

Oddly, one other quarterback, Kerry Collins, beat 31 teams, but the team Collins never beat, the Dolphins, wasn’t one of the teams he played for. Collins actually started against the Dolphins four times while playing for four different teams, but lost all four games.

Mahomes’ opposing quarterback on Sunday, Kirk Cousins, also entered Sunday’s game having beaten 30 other opponents, and Cousins also had a chance to make it 31, as the Chiefs are one of the two teams Cousins hasn’t beaten. (The other team Cousins hasn’t beaten is Cincinnati.) Cousins has beaten both franchises he has played for; he beat Minnesota while with Washington and beat Washington while with Minnesota.

Four quarterbacks in NFL history have beaten all 32 teams: Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Brett Favre. Chiefs fans will hope that Mahomes retires a Chief and never joins that list.

Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson is likely to miss significant time with the right shoulder injury he suffered on Sunday.

Richardson received an initial diagnosis of a Grade 3 AC joint sprain, which would mean he would miss a month or more, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Although Richardson is set for an MRI this morning to further evaluate the injury, from all appearances he will miss multiple games.

That leaves backup Gardner Minshew to start in Richardson’s place. If there’s a silver lining for the Colts, it’s that Minshew has played well so far this season. After Richardson went down on Sunday, Minshew completed 11 of 14 passes for 155 yards to lead the Colts to a win over the Titans, and there’s every reason to believe Minshew can keep the Colts in contention in the AFC South.

The division co-leaders, the 3-2 Colts and 3-2 Jaguars, are set to meet on Sunday, with Minshew facing his old team in a very big game.

Needs to learn to protect himself, god knows the Colts won’t. Feel like the team has sent more QBs to retirement that any other team, granted the last 2 were headed there soon regardless. In seriousness, Richardson needs to avoid hits whenever possible or his career is going to be a short one

Steichen even has designed run plays for Richardson... maybe them plays need to be designed to run out of bounds or learn to slide. I dig the QB with his size and athleticism wanting to be a dual threat, but it only works if you can get it done with all your body parts left on your body after the game. Not every QB is like Josh Allen... Lamar tries, but he sure gets banged up to. This latest set-back, outside of the concussion is by far his worst injury to date, but he and they (Colts) need to start protecting him more from this point forward; said Captain Obvious.

Frankly, with all the football ive seen so far this season, Im surprised there arnt even more injuries to QB's... some of the hits their getting laid on them are brutal, just ask Kirk Cousins. Surprisingly there arnt too many teams with top-notch offensive lines, that or the QB's are being cheap and not taking those giant trench monsters out to eat often enough.
