He is pulling an AB and forcing his way out of Chicago. Granted AB is vastly more talented but Chase has enough talent someone will take a flyer on him. He may have done enough crazy to clear waivers making him free to sign with a team he wants to go to.

I'm not so sure about Caleb Williams as everybody seems to be.

The dude comps to Justin Fields coming out of college in a lot of ways, more so than to call coincidence--minus a few measurables (Fields is 6'3, Williams 6'1--I haven't checked arm length because apparently that's something idiot GMs put gravitas into when looking at drafting players). If Fields doesn't fit what you're trying to do (which I think is the Kyle Shanahan offense, but I don't know because Luke Getsy is retarded), this kid will? That, and everybody is suggesting Williams may not pick the bears, but then again, national talking heads have to fill air time. All I know is that it would be quintessential "bears" to ditch Justin/make him dead walking next year with no 5th year option just to draft the same/nearly similar profile of player to try again with.

Harrison has been called generational, but I've watched 3 games of his this year, and it kind of goes the same and I'm starting to get nervous about him. He balls out and makes a few awesome catches that make you agree he is indeed generational--then gets injured--usually small stuff that knocks him out for a quarter/half then he comes back and by then the game's out of reach so he's not getting touches or TV analysts are trying to oversell an 8 yard curl route.

Their other WR Egbuka is a work horse not getting enough credit and is no joke in that offense, and when I've seen OSU's new QB McCord look for safety valve on a play he's about to get his head taken off--he's not looking for Harrison, he's looking for Egbuka or the TE Stover--so I'm becoming more open to the idea of either of them, just like teams with Garret Wilson/Chris Olave a year/two ago.

I still want a LT, because I've seen enough of Braxton and Borom. But then again, its the Bears--so being competent, let alone serious about the OL is unlikely.

The Tanking was in jest. To me it is just too stupid to not kick that FG. I get if it would have been a 50+ yarder. But that was in automatic range.

You’re trying to build confidence in your young QB. Let him and the rest of the O take that lead.

Do you suggest we should trade down again then? Maybe one of the two? We had the opportunity for your boy Skoronski and passed on him.

I think even if Williams comps to Fields, he hasn't (yet) been ruined, and you also restart the clock before you have to pay him. I hear you on fit, but ideally we have a new OC/HC that is aligned with his strengths. I'm surprised though you are that down on him, all the pundits have had him down as a "generational" player ala Lawrence. Moreover Justin's problems are trending along the Trubisky line - can't read a defense. The Broncos game does not change this. Reading NFL defenses is not something you know from college right? That have to come here and sink or swim.

I just don't see how you can be this unsure of your QB, have the #1 pick two years in a row and not take a swing. I want trenches too, but the only way that happens is a trade down, and given the hype around Williams compared to Young, it's going to be ridiculous if they do try to sell down.

No, I suggest impact WR isn't a direct need unless you're going to offload DJ Moore and I don't think Poles is going to be in BPA mode if/when he gets #1 again. OL, QB, and DL are priority right now and even though I want 4 new starters I'm pretty sure a DL round 1 is coming if one grades high enough, which for now several in theory 'could.' This is obviously subject to change in the coming weeks/months. DL and QB would be my guess as to how they'd go if they didn't trade down again and used both picks. The way FAs are lining up is a lot like this past year, so slim and expect overpays of middling guys with one name you want (Leonard Williams) who isn't going to get let go by a team smart enough to retain good young talent the way DC did with Da'Ron Payne.

I think Poles (if around) could easily trade #1 again. Poles hired Getsy. He hired a coach who's not going to tailor his scheme to his QB, so I have to consider he'd do it again should Getsy get canned as opposed to learning from a mistake and finding a guy who can build up a young QB and fit the scheme to him/know the limitations, unlike Getsy, whom as well pointed out in the gamethread, just put the training wheels back on Justin when they were blowing the lead when Justin had been carving up a beat up Denver secondary. In that case, if they stay with the present scheme, an argument can be made that Caleb Williams, like Fields, doesn't fit what the bears are 'theoretically' trying to run, which we're told is Kyle Shanahan's offense (but it's clearly not, it's a rancid pile of horseshit.) They need a guy who can get rid of the ball quickly and efficiently, not an incredibly gifted athlete who can't/wont see the read to quickly get the ball out.

Now he could absolutely buy the hype of Caleb Williams and change the whole Offensive scheme to him, which would be smart and he's already got some pieces in place, so it makes sense to--so he obviously wont do it. Or he'd take Williams and doom him/fans into fucking up another promising young QB with franchise ineptitude.

My point is, if he trades #1, which will be Williams, he should get a massive haul for sure. But then who's playing QB for the Bears? Fields again? And I think the fans would riot at this point if we didn't take him, and at some point the owners will take that into consideration.

There is zero chance Getsy stays to next year in my mind. So whatever offensive "scheme" we run is out the window. You and blang are probably right that we will hire yet another idiot that will force his scheme upon Williams/Fields/whoever, just like Getsy.

And actually, with the hype around MHJ, I could see that getting a haul too. So Williams + a trade + some OL/DL help? This wouldn't be bad, but we have to nail the coaching hires. They are easily the weakest part of the team at the moment.

Caleb Williams isn't the only available QB nor is he the only one likely to end up with a 1st round grade. Presently he's the top candidate, for obvious reasons. Drake Maye, Shadeur Sanders (should he declare), JJ McCarthy, and Quinn Ewers are all presently being prognosticated as potential 1st round QBs too. I get some fans may over-sensationalize, but IMO it isn't the end of the world if you don't end up with Caleb after getting/trading away #1. And I don't say that to criticize, I say that because I don't care who the name is or what college uniform the kid wears, just take the right guy. Justin isn't the right guy for Poles/Getsy, so find a guy who is for whatever scheme you're going to run. Find the guy who can see/throw/not think about it when it comes to the quick stuff.

I get this will satiate nobody's appetite (except for maybe the Vikes' fans) but Kirk Cousins looks done over there and not tagged/resigned. Who knows about Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee, though with how Levis looked in preseason mixed with Tannehill being competent now he'll probably get tagged. Daniel Jones will have made 46 of his 81 mil guaranteed in NY, so they could be looking to offload him. Pats look done with Mac Jones.

The bears will have more options this coming offseason at QB, whether they're looking for a stopgap or drafting a talent. They'll also have options should they have #1 to get another king's ransom.

You know college better than me since I watch none of it, but the pundits were all talking about Williams *last* year, and that this year's draft was weak. And they still went 1/2/4! But even though it's early, thus far the Texans made out better with the #2 and #3 picks than Carolina did with just the #1, and there's always Mahomes and Watson after Mitch, but that's partly BECAUSE the Bears were involved, heh, Allen 3rd behind Baker and Darnold. But there are a lot of examples of that #1 being much better than even #2 - Lawrence comes to mind, Murray before he was injured, Luck, Cam Newton,Stafford. I was going to say Burrow and then looked up #2/#3 were Tua and Herbert and those are all pretty damn good to this point.

Honestly going back through the #1 QB draft picks, it made me start to agree with you. UNLESS this guy really is a Luck/Lawrence generational talent as described.

That's why it will be all the more important to shitcan Flus and immediately find that HC and OC well in advance of the draft, and then we can argue about who they'll pick and whether they fit the scheme. I don't see anyway they jettison Poles too, but it would be nice to start an entire regime with this #1/#2 possible pick, and have everyone aligned - a true fresh start with capital. I still don't think Poles is bad necessarily, I didn't mind accumulating picks and cutting dead contracts, but I do mind the shitshow that is Claypool, and he really doesn't have any huge picks where we can say, "that was a great pickup". Even the shitty GMs have had those, most of these are a "well, maybe someday he can be good?"

And if we actually do build trenches, then we can bring a lower round guy in to maybe some success, ala Brock Purdy. Brock on this team would be madness though.

I don't know why this just occurred to me, but Kevin Warren didn't hire Poles. If he is going to do more than the stadium, and has a football head on his shoulders, maybe he does clean house? The downside there is we have the same problem as with Poles, having to find the GM, and THEN find the HC/OC for this new QB.

I doubt that Georgie is letting him do anything other than the stadium / finance stuff. Just my gut instinct. No way Georgie wants Warren's attention divided, and no way he wants to relinquish any type of control / cares about Warren's input the way he did his old buddy Teddy Slimeface. He said that Poles and Eberflus would answer directly to him, as the head of football operations, when they were hired. No shot that's changed now.
