Myles Garrett now undisputed Browns sack king with 79 The Browns have played football in Cleveland for 75 seasons. In only 39 of those have sacks counted as an official statistic. So, Myles Garrett became the team’s official all-time sacks leader last season when he passed Clay Matthews Jr., who had 62 career sacks. On Sunday, Garrett collected 3.5 sacks of Ryan Tannehill, giving him 79 for his career. Bill Glass, who played for the Browns from 1962-68, had the Browns’ unofficial sack record with 77.5, according to a list compiled by Pro Football Reference through decades of research. Garrett expressed surprise that he passed Glass when Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal informed Garrett of his unofficial record. “I couldn’t do it without all the guys I’ve played with in my career,” Garrett told Ulrich. “And it’s an honor to play for this team and continue to make big plays for these guys because it’s a brotherhood; it’s a family; and I respect everyone who came before me and laid the path for me.” Garrett said he “absolutely” recognizes the unofficial sack list. “They counted to someone,” Garrett said. “They counted to those guys who got them.” Garrett, the first overall draft pick in 2017, has 4.5 sacks in three games this season. His 79 sacks have come in 86 games. NBC
After a rough two weeks to start the season, the Steelers’ offense put up 333 total yards with 17 first downs. The club was 6-of-15 on third down and had zero giveaways. Pickett finished 16-of-28 passing for 235 yards with two touchdowns, good for a 108.5 passer rating. Najee Harris had 19 carries for 65 yards. George Pickens had four receptions for 75 yards while Calvin Austin caught a 72-yard touchdown in the first quarter. T.J. Watt put up 2.0 sacks to get to 6.0 sacks on the season. Patrick Peterson joined Wallace in intercepting Garoppolo. Now at 2-1, the Steelers will be on the road again to face the 1-2 Texans.
Chargers fear Mike Williams suffered season-ending knee injury The Chargers’ win over the Vikings on Sunday may have had a very costly injury. Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams suffered a knee injury that the team fears is season-ending, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Williams was having a big game, with seven catches for 121 yards and a touchdown, before he suffered the injury in the third quarter. He had to be helped off the field and was carted to the locker room. If Williams is out for the season, that could mean even more targets for Keenan Allen, who is having an outstanding start to the season with 32 catches for 402 yards. It would also mean more work for Josh Palmer, who has eight catches for 83 yards through three games. And it would mean first-round rookie Quentin Johnson, who has just five catches for 26 yards through three games, needs to step up. NBC
Andy Reid: NFL officials are inconsistent on “ridiculous” illegal formation penalties Chiefs offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor was a focal point of the NFL’s regular-season opener when he repeatedly lined up behind the line of scrimmage but was not flagged for an illegal formation penalty. In two weeks since then, however, Taylor has been flagged so often that Reid believes the officials are singling him out and flagging him for something other offensive tackles do just as much. “They have an eye on him,” Reid said of the officials’ focus on Taylor. “It all started on the Thursday night game. You look around the league, and it’s just not consistent right now. That’s the important thing.” Reid felt that the two penalties Taylor picked up in Sunday’s win over the Bears were unfair, and after watching the film, Reid said on Monday that he feels strongly that the rule isn’t being applied to everyone. “Now that I’ve had a chance to look at it, I’ve even doubled down more on what I said yesterday,” Reid said. “They’ve got an eye on him. They better keep an eye on everybody else too. It’s to the point of being ridiculous. They got their point proved now out there to the world, so let’s make sure we’re staying consistent.” Almost everything went right for the Chiefs against the Bears, but those illegal formation calls are the one thing Reid wants to see cleaned up. And he thinks it’s the league’s officiating department as much as his own team that has some work to do on that call. NBC
The Chargers’ fears on receiver Mike Williams have been confirmed. Williams suffered a torn ACL on Sunday and will be out for the rest of the 2023 season, according to multiple reports. Williams exited the game late in the third quarter after he caught a short pass on the right side and took it for an 11-yard gain. But he stayed down after the play, with the FOX broadcast showing Williams holding his knee. He was assisted off the field before going into the blue medical tent. Williams caught 19 passes for 249 yards with one touchdown over the first three games of the year.
Saints running back Alvin Kamara can return from his three-game suspension and get to work with the team today. Kamara was suspended for the first three games of the season after he pleaded no contest to breach of the peace in connection with a beating that left a man hospitalized. Kamara acknowledged he was "completely wrong" for his actions, which took place in Las Vegas the day before the 2022 Pro Bowl. The Saints' offense is in a state of flux after quarterback Derek Carr suffered an injured throwing shoulder in Sunday's loss to the Packers. The 2-1 Saints would love to see Kamara come in and make an immediate impact, starting on Sunday with a big divisional game against the Buccaneers. YAHOO
Stafford was 18-of-33 for 269 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Rookie receiver Puka Nacua caught five passes for 72 yards, and Tutu Atwell had five touches for 72 yards. Aaron Donald had seven tackles and a sack for the Rams, but it wasn’t enough even against a gimpy Joe Burrow. Burrow went 26-of-49 for 259 yards with an interception, an incredible pick by Ahkello Witherspoon. Ja’Marr Chase caught 12 passes for 141 yards, and Joe Mixon ran for 65 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.
D'Andre Swift had another huge night for the Philadelphia Eagles, rushing for more than 100 yards for the second consecutive game in a dominant 25-11 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James on Stadium Monday night. Swift rushed for 130 yards in the victory, setting the pace for an Eagles rushing attack that put up more than 201 yards for the second consecutive week. Neither Swift nor Kenny Gainwell racked up a rushing touchdown for the Eagles, but Jalen Hurts recorded a rushing score to put the Eagles up, 20-3, on the first drive coming out of halftime. Hurts has 29 rushing touchdowns in his career, the most in NFL history through a player's first 50 career games (and Hurts has only played 48 career games). He finished 22 of 36 for 273 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions (70.7 rating), finding A.J. Brown eight times for 127 yards. Baker Mayfield struggled against the Eagles pressure throughout the night, even though he was only sacked two times and hit five times. The Eagles took away the run game for the Buccaneers, holding Tampa Bay to 41 yards on the ground. Nicholas Morrow had a safety in the third quarter for the Eagles, capping a dominant night for the run defense. Mayfield finished 15 of 25 for 146 yards with a touchdown and an interception, but the touchdown came midway through the fourth quarter when the game essentially was out of reach. Mike Evans scored the only touchdown for the Buccaneers. Philadelphia outgained Tampa Bay, 472-174, in the win, holding the Buccaneers to 4.0 yards per play.
Philadelphia's win over Tampa last night was the first time in NFL history that a game had ended with a score of 25-11.

It sounds like the Packers should have two of their key weapons back on the field for Thursday night’s game against the Lions. Via multiple reporters, receiver Christian Watson said, “That’s the plan” when asked if he was playing in Week 4. Watson has missed the first three games of the season with a hamstring injury. Receiver Romeo Doubs also told reporters that running back Aaron Jones will also return from his hamstring injury this week. NBC
Mike Tomlin: Offense getting better, signs of things to build on from Sunday The Steelers offense has underwhelmed this season, but Monday’s performance brought more positives than the first two weeks of the year. The team posted their most yards and first downs of the young season while also avoiding a turnover for the first time this year. The result was a 23-18 win that head coach Mike Tomlin believes held building blocks for further success as the season continues to unfold. “We’re getting better. We had better,” Tomlin said, via the team’s website. “Everyone better be getting better, regardless of the outcome of games, obviously, but it’s good enough to win the games. But there’s some components to get better. The planning component, the coach component, the playing component, and then the adjustment component. We’ve been dealing with all of those things and everyone does. But I just want to be really clear about just everyone’s still very much in development, as are we, and I saw some signs there to build upon in the midst of earning a victory.” This week brings a trip to Houston to face the Texans and another step forward for the offense in that matchup will put a few more fears about the unit to rest.
