'We'll see' says Bengals HC Zac Taylor on Joe Burrow practicing next week

Will Burrow be back on the practice field next week ahead of the team's season opener?

"We'll see," Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor coyly offered Tuesday, via ESPN's Ben Baby.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on July 28 that Burrow was expected to miss "several weeks," and Taylor has done zilch since to provide a more accurate timeline.

Burrow stirred some excitement when he did some jogging and throwing ahead of the Bengals' preseason opener, but progress reports have been rather vague before and since.

Though details haven't been abundant, it would seem as though Taylor's concern isn't overly abundant, either.

"I think he has a very healthy body," the coach said of Burrow. "And I'm encouraged by that."

As Burrow is looking to make a comeback, he's also looking to come to an agreement on a contract extension -- a very big one, at that. However, Taylor quickly dismissed any notion that Burrow's been kept away from the practice field due to any contract squabbles. When asked if Burrow's lack of practice was in any way linked to a lack of an extension, Taylor quickly replied, "No."

Also on Tuesday, the Bengals released veteran Trevor Siemian, leaving Jake Browning as the Bengals' backup.

"I feel really good about Jake being the No. 2," Taylor said.

So, will Burrow be back at practice soon? Will Joey Franchise take the field for Week 1 against the archrival Cleveland Browns? Will Browning be the Bengals' Week 1 starter?

Taylor's we'll-see retort would seem to cover all of those.

All people are different, so I expect different inputs, reactions, responses, what not... how one chooses to respond or react is their prerogative and everything flies with me as long as its not hurtful, then it crosses a line.

Ive never had kids of my own (that I can remember ;) ), but ive raised kids on two occasions in my life, I have 2 right now living in my house with me, a 7 and 8 yo. One thing I learned in my first tour of duty roughly 20 years ago was to let them argue, discuss and talk things out within a careful and respectful manner... Its a good social skill development for them to learn when young, I just kinda became the referee in a sense to insure no one got nasty or red faced mad or trending towards violence or used vulgar language, that wouldnt fly with me. For the most part, letting people work things out 'their' way is ok as long as its civilized. I tend to keep the same values today as far as discussions go in family, work or social media.

This has been my one and only 'philosophical rendering' for the day.

2 sentences prompt a 7 paragraph response. But you're not pissy.

For the record....you take discussing football too seriously.

Would have been nice if his receivers didn't drop everything.

Thats true in part, but its the Camp showing that really impressed the coaches and players... Quick learner and did everything right that coach's asked of him. He sure hasnt had much game experience, but when he came in for Walker, the offense moved the football.

Just a hunch/guess on my part, but he's just #2 at the moment because thats all thats left. Bears are going to obviously bring in a vet, but who is whats got my curiosity, the Bears and a few other teams. Going to be interesting to see what some of these 1 and 2 QB having teams do, jobless vet QB's must be a bit giddy right now.

There'll always be people in the world who rub us the wrong way and I think the trick is to not let things get under our skin too quickly. Responding rationally and calmly to suspected insults takes the bite right out of the posts. A lot of times, this can result in a very interesting and enlightening discussion :)

Bengals fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

Quarterback Joe Burrow took part in practice for the first time in more than a month on Wednesday. Burrow injured his calf at the start of training camp and has focused on rehab work since that point, although he did work out on the field before one of the team’s preseason games.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said “we’ll see” when asked on Tuesday if Burrow would practice this week. His return should put him firmly on track to play against the Browns in Week One.

There’s also been some question about whether Burrow’s contract status was affecting his practice participation. Burrow is eligible for a contract extension, but Taylor said his absence has not been related to negotiations and Burrow has not said anything about holding himself out of any work because he hasn’t received a new deal yet.
