    Not quite true...

ESPN talk show host Stephen A. Smith made waves on the Internet on Monday when he said that Buffalo Bills receiver Stefon Diggs was unhappy in Buffalo and wants out.

“Brother wants out, I’m just telling you what I know,” Smith said. “He don’t want to be in Buffalo anymore. I have my sources. Stefon Diggs has got to be there but he’d prefer to be gone because he’s lost a level of belief in the Buffalo Bills.”

Diggs took to Twitter to respond directly to Smith later on Monday afternoon.

“100% not true,” Diggs tweeted. “I don’t know who the source is but I thought (I’d) nip this sh** in the bud already.”

Diggs and the Bills were the topic of national talk shows back in June when coach Sean McDermott said he was concerned that the superstar wide receiver wasn’t at practice when mandatory minicamp opened. Diggs showed up the following day and McDermott revealed that he did show up but went home after conversations with various members of the organization.

Ravens should play all their starters tonight all game long to keep 'the streak' alive.

Honestly, I think the Ravens game plan the preseason games. ALL other teams call plays to highlight players just to get looks at them. They could care less if they “win” a preseason game. The Browns went undefeated a few times in preseason and won just as many games in the regular season…

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jaxon Smith-Njigba will undergo wrist surgery.

Smith-Njigba injured his wrist on a near-touchdown in Saturday’s preseason game against the Cowboys. Schefter said the rookie could be ready for Week 1, though the surgery itself will determine JSN’s recovery period. If JSN misses the season’s first week or two, Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf would resume their role as target dominators in the Seattle offense. We could see Smith-Njigba’s redraft ADP fall in the coming days.

Saints safety Marcus Maye’s changed his plea on DUI charges from not guilty to no contest and he received his sentence on Tuesday.

Maye was sentenced to six months of probation and his driver’s license will be suspended for the same amount of time. He was also sentenced to 50 hours of community service.

“Mr. Maye’s legal saga has come to a conclusion today and he looks forward to focusing on football,” Maye’s attorney Eric Schwartzreich said, via Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com.

Maye initially faced charges of driving under the influence, DUI/damage to property and person, and leaving the scene of the crash as a result of the February 2021 incident.

The NFL could impose further discipline on Maye for his actions.

You get hammered and jump behind the wheel and cause property damage and injure someone, There'll be some (not much) jail time. Leave the scene? Isn't that a felony?

    Yes and no...

The offense can range from a misdemeanor to a felony, depending on the degree of damage or injury.

The police can charge you with leaving the scene of an accident if they are able to link a particular vehicle to the crash, then show that you were driving that vehicle. They may use license plate numbers from witnesses and physical evidence, such as paint transferred during the crash, to identify the vehicle, and fingerprints or your own injuries to connect you to the car.

A charge of leaving the scene (hit and run) can be initiated by a letter from the police informing you that you are a suspect and they would like to question you, or as a criminal citation mailed to you.

If the case is serious enough, the prosecutor may choose to seek an indictment from a grand jury to charge you with felony hit and run.

Seahawks rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba will miss 3-4 weeks with his fractured wrist, coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday. That puts Week 1 in jeopardy considering the season opener against the Rams is 19 days away, but Carroll said the team is going to be “optimistic.”

“He’s going to get surgery by the hand specialist,” Carroll said, via video from Brady Henderson of ESPN. “Kind of a slight fracture that we just want to make sure that we do the right thing to ensure he gets back as soon as possible and as safe as possible. So, we’re going to be optimistic about it. Three or four weeks, and we’ll see what happens.”

Browns RB Nick Chubb embracing increased role in passing game

Nick Chubb's place in Cleveland has been that of a load-bearing, tackle-breaking cornerstone.

Most of his work has been done on the ground. In 2023, though, that might expand to the air.

Chubb is seeing more activity in Cleveland's passing game during training camp and the preseason. With a full camp with quarterback Deshaun Watson working to their advantage, the Browns hope they can find new ways to attack defenses from the start of the season.

"I think it will," Chubb said when asked how his involvement in the passing game might open up Cleveland's offense. "Not knowing what we're going to do if I'm in the game. Last year I was just mostly (playing) first, second down, so I kind of gave them an idea of what we're going to do. But hopefully this year will be different with me doing more things."

Chubb first began focusing on improving as a pass-catching back in the 2019 training camp, taking reps as a target of Baker Mayfield in an offense that included the likes of Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. But as that season unraveled, his work was largely wasted. And for the next three years, Chubb only sparingly saw opportunities as a receiving option, with his single-season high in targets coming in 2021 with 40.

With Kareem Hunt now gone and youngster Jerome Ford still working his way back from injury, the Browns will likely need Chubb to do more. He's embracing the challenge, while downplaying the added responsibility.

"Not so much. I know those guys behind me are prepared well every day with coach Stump (Mitchell) and here at practice," Chubb said. "So I know if anything happens, those guys will be ready to go out there and compete and make plays for this team."

Chubb has been a flashpoint of debate in Cleveland regarding Kevin Stefanski's play-calling decisions in the last year. When Stefanski called 20 or more runs for Chubb, the Browns went 5-1. In games in which he saw less than 20 carries, Cleveland finished just 2-9.

While it might seem as simple as handing the ball to Chubb more, defenses caught up to this advantage quite quickly. And because the Browns didn't use Chubb as a pass catcher, when he was on the field, he largely occupied one of two roles: ball-carrier or pass blocker.

Adding Chubb into the passing game should, as he explained, make Cleveland less predictable. This, plus the full availability of Watson from Week 1 onward, should help Cleveland improve upon its 14th-ranked standing last season, which included a 22nd-place finish in passing.

"I think there's that potential to be one of the best in the NFL," Chubb said of the Browns' offense. "It depends on us executing every day and alignment, assignment, playing fast, but being smart."

Only time will tell. But Chubb is fully committed.

"Whatever it takes, I'm excited for it," he said.

Chris Jones replies “Week 8" when asked how long he’d hold out

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones has been racking up daily fines of $50,000 since the start of training camp and he indicated on social media that he’s willing to rack up a lot more of them.

Jones posted a picture of a sign that reads “If it’s out of your hands, it deserves freedom from your mind also” and was asked in reply when he plans to rejoin the team. Jones’ reply won’t warm many hearts in Kansas City.

    “Week 8,” Jones wrote.

Another reply noted that would result in “a hefty tab” and Jones would forfeit more than $7.5 million in weekly checks on top of his camp fines if he were to remain out until that point in the season. Jones seemed unbothered by that prospect.

“I can afford it,” Jones wrote.

Anything said while jousting on social media should be taken with hefty grains of salt, so it’s hardly a guarantee Jones will be out until midseason if he and the Chiefs can’t come to agreement on a new contract. The prospect of things playing out that way is likely to cause some concern for those hoping to see the Chiefs win their third title in the last five years.

So, when does the 'undervaluation' of RB's trickle down to other positions like DL's and WR's? I recently read WR's suffer even more seasonal injuries than RB's and with the Jones and Bosa situations, maybe the owners by paying these unprecedented sky-high contracts have created monsters on the grid-iron... not good monsters, but money grabbing monsters. Oh wait, the owners who started this mess are and have been monster money magnets from the beginning. Its all a mess and way over my head.

Tuesday deadline suggests Colts might be willing to take the best offer for Jonathan Taylor

Wednesday’s news regarding the effort to trade Colts running back Jonathan Taylor carried an interesting wrinkle. As reported by Stephen Holder of ESPN.com, the Colts have given Taylor until Tuesday, August 29 to find a “suitable offer.”

Why Tuesday? Why not just keep him until they get the offer they want? All it takes is, for example, a Week 1 injury to a starting running back on a contending team to create a demand that might not exist.

What happens if Tuesday comes and goes without a “suitable offer”? Taylor plays for the Colts, without complaint or concern? He forgets about wanting out, even after he had a chance to escape?

It’s almost seems as if the Colts have decided to take the best offer they get by Tuesday, and move on. That the deadline isn’t for Taylor but for anyone else who might be thinking time is on their side. The message, quite possibly, is that the Colts will be making a deal on Tuesday. So Tuesday is the day to make a move.

Holder also added that the Colts have offers from two unnamed teams. Some in league circles would say in response that, if the teams aren’t named, they don’t exist.

The substance of the offers hasn’t been reported. The Colts reportedly want a first-round pick. The biggest unknown is what does Taylor want? Unless his new team addresses that issue, they’ll potentially inherit the same issues the Colts might be trying to shed.

We’ll see how it plays out. Apparently, it will all end within the next six days — one way or the other.
