The Vikings likely won’t have one of their key rookie receivers for the rest of the week. First-round pick Jordan Addison has been placed in concussion protocol, head coach Kevin O’Connell said in his Wednesday press conference, via multiple reporters. Addison had been experiencing minor symptoms after going to the ground during practice earlier this week. But, O’Connell said, Addison may be able to return to practice by Monday. Addison officially caught one pass for 22 yards in his preseason debut last week — though he arguably would’ve had another sideline catch if the play had been challenged. He was on the field for 27 offensive snaps. The Vikings are hosting joint practices with the Titans this week before the two teams play a preseason game on Saturday night.
Didn't need that bit of bad news hope he will be okay I REALLY hope he's not injury prone how many concussions has he had? any in college àt Pitt or USC that dam injury bug go heck away
Vikings Rookie Ivan Pace Jr. Continues to Draw High Praise From Coaches Pace seemingly has a chance to carve out a legitimate role for the Vikings in Week 1. Undrafted rookie linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. has arguably been the story of Vikings training camp thus far. He's showed up and made an impact at just about every single practice, which — combined with a recent injury to Brian Asamoah — has catapulted him up the depth chart and into heavy reps with the first-team defense. Pace also shined in the preseason opener in Seattle last week. It's become clear that he is a very obvious lock to make the 53-man roster. At this point, Pace is competing to have an immediate role on defense in Week 1, perhaps even as a starting ILB next to Jordan Hicks. Head coach Kevin O'Connell said as much on Wednesday. "He did great with the green dot (relaying defensive playcalls) the other day in Seattle," O'Connell said. "Gold stars all the way around for Ivan. As I’ve challenged him to do, you’re not just trying to compete to make our team, let’s see where you can go and help us possibly win football games from the jump." Pace went undrafted due to his small stature at 5'10", 230 pounds, but he was an ultra-productive All-American player at Cincinnati last season and his talent has carried over to the NFL level so far. He's impressed with his ability to move in space and the way he can shed and avoid blocks as a downhill run defender and blitzer. "Really every facet of the game, how we're playing defense, the communication, pressure, no pressure, the way he has the athleticism to run sideline to sideline, maybe cancel out some mistakes," O'Connell said. "If we lose a gap here or there, he’s shown to be able to get off blocks. A guy that, when I watched his tape in college, he was almost unblockable, and that’s translating in a lot of ways. It could be a great look for a play, getting (an offensive) lineman up to him on the second level, and he somehow avoids that block and makes the play while maintaining doing his job so he doesn’t undress any other facet of the defensive call." The NFL regular season is a different animal compared to training camp and especially preseason action. Coming off the game in Seattle, I said Asamoah was still locked in as the starter until further notice. But with Pace continuing to impress and draw high praise from coaches while Asamoah remains injured, the possibility of an undrafted rookie starting at linebacker for the Vikings in Week 1 is becoming increasingly conceivable. That's how consistently impressive Pace has been. "Ivan's doing a lot of good things," defensive coordinator Brian Flores said. "In the meetings, in the walkthrough, in practice. Thought he played well in the game last week. Our message to him is just to continue to string good days together. His ability to pick up the playbook — he had the green dot last week, he did a good job communicating the calls out to the rest of the defense. That's continued this week. He's fast, he's tough, and he plays a physical style. We're excited about him." FAN NATION
Has Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah gotten around to Justin Jefferson and TJ Hockensen and I don't get this not going after D-lineman which the Vikings need badly this guy makes me very nervous cause I think he will make some crazy azz trade Lewis Cine looks like a bust and can Andrew Booth Jr stay well
Others agree with you, Baddman. Time for Vikings to End the Suspense and Pay Justin Jefferson The reigning Offensive Player of the Year says he’s not worried about getting a contract extension, but as one of the faces of the NFL, maybe he should be concerned. During eventful times, there is often a story that simply goes overlooked despite it deserving some attention. Back in 1969, a man rowed by himself in a sailboat across the Atlantic Ocean and completed his journey the day before the Apollo mission landed two men on the moon, thus rendering him toward the back pages of history. During the pandemic, there was some talk of the existence of aliens, while we tried to grapple with the changing minutiae of our everyday life and the tumult of our political system. Looking for a football example of significantly less importance? While we gab about the running back payscale and how many full preseason games Russell Wilson will play before he finally gets some rest, Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson is still without a contract extension, and no one seems to care. Any look back at recent pieces done on the matter are all some kind of word salad about how Jefferson isn’t that worried about it. I’m worried about it! It is true Jefferson has two years left on his rookie deal—he will make $2.4 million during the 2023 season, and his fifth-year option will pay him an estimated $19.7 million in ’24—which means that the typical offseason for this kind of discussion is still a year away. It is also true Jefferson is as close to being superhuman as we get in the football space. He is, quite possibly, one of the two or three most valuable nonquarterbacks in the NFL. With him, the Vikings can claim they are an ascending team. Without him, they are the league’s equator buoyed mostly by the capped efficiency of quarterback Kirk Cousins. Player power is a fickle concept that changes with the wind, but at the moment Jefferson is Thanos. Credit to him for handling this situation with an adopted brand of Minnesota Nice, but how sure can any of us be that the Vikings would return the favor if something went wrong? Wide receiver is the most injury-prone position in the NFL, according to data from the previous two seasons. While it is extremely rare any of these injuries are career-threatening, and I would probably sign Jefferson’s torso alone if I knew there was a chance it could play some meaningful snaps, it’s hard not to wonder why Jefferson remains at ease given the way we have seen a host of NFL teams use the administrative machinations at their disposal to depress a player’s earning potential. Maybe Jefferson wants to formally enter the market at the same time as Ja’Marr Chase, which would allow the former teammates to play a game of big-money chicken. That’s dependent on the Bengals solving a complex financial puzzle with Joe Burrow, Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins and Chase, and assuming Cincinnati can still afford to pay Chase in a way that would loft Jefferson into another financial stratosphere. Maybe Jefferson wants to wait out another free-agency cycle this coming year, though a class with Mike Evans, Odell Beckham Jr., Hollywood Brown and Calvin Ridley in 2024 is more likely to coincide with a further market depression of wide receivers instead of another boom period as we saw in ’22 after the Cooper Kupp, Davante Adams, Deebo Samuel and Tyreek Hill deals. Maybe Jefferson isn’t the problem here. As we all know, contracts are a two-way street. If that’s the case, all it would take on Jefferson’s part is a few cryptic emoji or an Instagram bio scrub to let the world in on it and signal Skol Nation to wage a full-scale riot. And if that is the case, good luck to the Vikings affording Jefferson next year if he duplicates his 2022 performance. Only the Saudi soccer league would have deep enough pockets. Hopefully, Jefferson’s just waiting for the right opportunity to make his point. Like, moments before kickoff of Week 1, or as we approach the 2023 trade deadline. Far be it from me to disrupt harmony, but every practice is a chance for the balance of power to shift ever so slightly. Jefferson is not only the face of the Vikings, but he’s also one of the faces of the NFL. That, right now, at this moment, is worth a life-altering amount of money. It could be worth more next year, next month, next week. It also may not be. SI
That's why I'm so scared of this guy Justin Jefferson should and TJ Hockensen should already locked up Jamson Williams fell right in the Vikings lap then he makes an unbelievable trade for Lewis Cine thought he supposed to be the next Harrison Smith it was like WTF and the Vikings could have drafted Christian Watson and he did some crazy sh*t and now he's a GB Packers and I thought Tricky Ricky was bad not scary ĺike Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah PAY THESE GUYS NOW!!!
Wè will ĝer a good ĺook àt the defense want to see just how physical the Vikings are cause the Seahawks were very physical
Malik Willis is playing the entire game for the Titans... we could see a lot of Hall and some Mullins. Hall needs to get it going, im curious if he can. Keeping an eye on Mcbride out of the backfield, he needs to crank it up and if any one needs to get going its, DB Booth Jr. He sucked, for lack of a better word, in Seattle and better find his mojo tonight. On the defensive line, the Vikings desperately need to get some QB pressure going tonight. Vilain and Whitley, if they have a good game, could make the 53. Offensive line needs to be consistent and the depth is a big issue. Players like Ingram need to turn it up, ASAP. Plenty of work and experiments and observations looming in tonights game. Holes need filed.
Good Luck Will and Viking Fans.......I know it's Pre-Season but we get to look at the Rookies tonight. Malik Willis is playing the entire game for the Titans... I'm alright with this as he played just OK vs the Bears.......he does have a Bullet of an arm but makes bad rookie mistakes. Maybe a full pre-season game will help him. Always nice watching a game from U.S. Bank Stadium.....SPECTACULAR and Good Luck. .............Go Titans Go...........
