Im hyped up on Robinson too, but we can’t put him in the “best” category of anything until he takes a real snap.
Maybe Jones and Dillon in Green Bay give them a run for the money but, I've always been a huge Cook fan. He just just does so much. Then throw in Hall. Wow.
Yeah, that's the rub... we can't credit him for anything yet, but you can't automatically say he doesn't count either. Saying there isn't a team that can rival the Jets backfield doesn't fly. The kicker is Allgeier. He was a rookie last year like Hall. Atlanta didn't even play Allgeier in the season opener (using Damien Williams instead), and didn't use him as the "feature back" until later in the season. He had inside/short yardage duty for most of the season as well, hurting his averages. But he still finished with over 1000 rushing yards and also became more of a factor in the passing game down the stretch. In particular, once Desmond Ridder took over the starting QB role, Allgeier averaged 120.75 yards from scrimmage. So if the Jets hype is about having Hall back on top of another stud, then Atlanta has Allgeier in addition to Robinson. Then throw in CP. He'll be in the "hybrid" role this year like he was in 2021. If you're looking for production purely as a runner, that takes him out of the equation. But since the article focused on Hall's total yards from scrimmage, it's worth noting that CP had over 500 receiving yards in that hybrid role in 2021. So I'll stand by Bijan + Allgeier as being as strong a duo as Cook + Hall, and I'll up the ante by asking if any team can rival Bijan + Allgeier + Patterson as a trio.
The Ravens may be down a starting cornerback at the start of the season. Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey is expected to miss time with an injury and his status is up in the air for Week One, according to NFL Media. The report says Humphrey may need “a medical procedure” but the details of the injury are not known. The 27-year-old Humphrey was the Ravens’ first-round draft pick in 2017 and has made the Pro Bowl three times, including last season, when he started all 17 games.
The Buccaneers are not expecting good news on receiver Russell Gage. According to a report from NFL Media, Gage is believed to have suffered a severe knee injury that will sideline him for the 2023 season. Gage suffered the non-contact injury during Wednesday’s joint practice with the Jets. Multiple reporters on the scene noted that Gage’s teammates took a knee on the field in reaction to the injury and that Gage was in tears as he was carted off the field. Losing Gage for the season would be a significant hit to the Bucs’ receiving corps. In 13 games last season, Gage caught 51 passes for 426 yards with five touchdowns — a career high. Behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, Gage is one of the most experienced receivers on Tampa Bay’s roster. The club currently has Taye Barber, David Moore, Deven Thompkins, Kaylon Geiger, Rakim Jarrett, Cephus Johnson, Ryan Miller, Trey Palmer, and Kade Warner at receiver on its 90-man roster.
The updates sound like it's almost a certainty that he's done for the season. I'm bummed for him after following him in camp under his rookie contract with the Falcons. He's a good guy, and I was happy to see him get paid as a free agent - even though it was with a division rival. It was also nice to see him continue to develop and be productive as a WR for Tampa. He was largely a DB rather than WR coming out of college, and Atlanta drafted him as much for his special teams play as anything he had done on defense or offense.
Anyone's opinion is welcome on the duo argument... When discussing actual production, Allgeier and Patterson is a better argument. They were both very productive in their own right, especially when the argument could go towards, the best ability is availability and Hall didn't make it through his first season.. The original statement was "a healthy" Hall.. so with those parameters, I don't see an argument between a healthy Hall and Cook, but that's just my opinion. "Trio" That's fine..so this is the point where I debate that Patterson will return to being a WR in 2023 since Bijan is supposed to be a combination of Patterson and Allgeier... I cede the argument, as Patterson has been extremely productive in the role he has filled the past two years in Atlanta. For my own "Trio", if we are using rookies in the equation, I would throw in.. The Saints: Alvin Kamara Jamaal Williams Kendre Miller The first two alone make up one of the best tandems... Miller is the real deal as an incoming rookie. AGAIN... I am a huge fan of Bijan Robinson. I traded away my future in one of my dynasty leagues to get him on my team...
Conversation is what this thing is all about. I appreciate everything you have added across the boards.
Treylon Burks and the Titans surely feared the worst when the receiver was carted off during a joint practice with the Vikings on Wednesday. Teammates offered their well wishes after the session ended. Their prayers were answered. An MRI revealed only a lateral collateral ligament sprain, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. Burks should miss only a few weeks while rehabbing. The 18th overall pick of the 2022 draft, Burks caught 33 passes for 444 yards with one touchdown in 11 games as a rookie.
Raiders DE Maxx Crosby on training camp fight with Rams RB Cam Akers: 'He got what he got' An old rivalry resurfaced during joint practices between the Rams and Raiders on Wednesday in Southern California. Rams running back Cam Akers and Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby got into a fracas when Crosby attempted to punch the ball out of Akers' hands at the end of a play. Akers didn't take too kindly to Crosby's try-hard finish to the rep, and despite a significant size difference -- Akers stands at 5-foot-10, while Crosby is a healthy 6-5 -- the running back let Crosby know of his displeasure, sparking a skirmish in which punches were thrown between the two. A melee ensued, with both teams clashing on the field before being separated. Rams coach Sean McVay sent Akers to the showers, while Crosby -- having no locker to be sent to, since the visiting Raiders bussed to practice -- sat out the rest of the team period of practice on the sideline. Crosby was anything but contrite when asked about the scuffle afterward. "S---, I was just doing what I do, and he didn't like that," Crosby said. "So, he got what he got. It is what it is." McVay, meanwhile, took a no-nonsense stance on the matter, explaining he ejected Akers because of his involvement, not because he was necessarily the one to blame. "I don't know what happened. If you're involved in it, we're just kind of no tolerance," McVay said. "So, we will look at it. I don't want to speak too much on it because I'm trying to watch what the spot was and then I see that and we're trying to get our work in, and that prevents us from getting our work in." This isn't the first time the Rams have engaged in practice brawls with other teams. Last year, Aaron Donald infamously swung his helmet at an opponent during a joint session with the Cincinnati Bengals. And frankly, it's common in joint practices, no matter the participants. But if you're playing for McVay, you better not be at the center of the dust-up -- unless you want an early end to the day. "It is," McVay answered when asked if that was going to be a rule going forward. "If you do that, you're out." NFL.com ____________ _______________________ These joint practices sound more fun than the handful of preseason games I've sat through.
Jayron Kearse on fights at Cowboys practice: Our defense ain’t taking shit from any of the 32 teams The Cowboys’ final padded practice of the California portion of their training camp ended with fireworks. With no joint practices this summer, the Cowboys had no one to fight but themselves. So, they did on Wednesday. The offense and defense squared off in two different kerfuffles. “We ain’t taking no shit from nobody — all 32 teams; we ain’t taking shit from nobody,” veteran safety Jayron Kearse said, via Patrik Walker of the team website. “Whether it’s our offense or the next offense. We’re trying to show we’re the best in the business, so it gets spicy out here. It’s going to get spicy on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays; whenever we line up, that’s how we’re going to come.” The first scuffle of Wednesday started with an exchange of words between offensive lineman Brock Hoffman and defensive end Sam Williams. Offensive players, including center Tyler Biadasz, came to the defense of Hoffman and defensive players backed up Williams as the sides squared off briefly. The calm didn’t last long as linebacker Micah Parsons and Biadasz went at it, with Parsons throwing at least two punches. Quarterback Dak Prescott got the players separated and Parsons calmed down. “Hell yeah, I need that,” Parsons said. “I’m here to make them better. I push myself to the greater good and me pushing myself is only going to make them better at the end of the day. I don’t care who I’m up against. I don’t care if it’s Tyron [Smith], if it’s Zack [Martin], if it’s Tyler Smith — I’m going to beat the hell out of them. “It’s only going to make them better. . . . This is where championships get started — right here in camp. The goal is to bring that out, and the camaraderie, to bring it all together. It’s only one goal at the end of the day.” PFT
Week 2 of Preseason kicks off tonight... Robinson gets the start for the Browns, last I heard, with Mond getting some PT also. Id play Watson, but thats just me. Ima keep an eye on Tillman and Watkins JR... Curious if Watkins makes the 53. Hurts will sit for the Eagles, so Mariota and McKee are probable's. These two teams have had 2 joint practices with each other during the week, so by tonight maybe they will be sick of each other and it might get interesting.
Bills HC Sean McDermott said Josh Allen and the starters will play “about a quarter and a half” in Saturday’s preseason game against the Steelers. This will probably be the only preseason action we see from Allen and other key players on the starting offense before they take on the Jets in Week 1. Allen and the Bills enter 2023 with hopes of getting past that final hurdle in the AFC Playoffs that could lead to a Super Bowl appearance, which would be their first since the 1993 season. The goal for Allen and the starters will simply be to get some game reps and leave with a clean bill of health. From a preseason DFS standpoint, he’s an interesting play if he’s able to log a handful of drives before exiting. Although we wouldn’t expect many of his trademark runs on Saturday.

Kenny Pickett, Steelers starters will get more playing time vs. Bills Quarterback Kenny Pickett and the Steelers starting offense put together an efficient 10-play drive that ended in a touchdown in last week’s preseason opener against the Buccaneers. That was all the first unit got in that game, but that’s set to change in Saturday’s contest against the Bills. “We’ll play it by ear,” head coach Mike Tomlin said in his Thursday press conference. “I acknowledge that those guys are going to play. I will also acknowledge that they’re going to play more. But what that is, as I stand here right now, I’d be lying if I gave you a direct answer.” Pickett finished the preseason opener 6-of-7 passing for 70 yards with a 33-yard touchdown to George Pickens. Tomlin said he wants to see Pittsburgh’s offense get better in all areas this weekend. Tomlin also praised Pickett for the way the quarterback has handled his first training camp as an incumbent starter. “Man, I just like the way he’s communicating with people,” Tomlin said. “I like the way he comes in every day ready to compete. He’s not overanalyzing the big picture too much, he’s just trying to play his role in the creation of a great day and being there. I think other people, by virtue of his position, get their vibe off of that. “His ability to remain singularly focused and hyper competitive, I think, is an asset to our unit and to our team.” PFT
