Jordan Addison Debuts, Vikings Fall to Seahawks in Preseason Opener Jaren Hall mostly struggled to move the Vikings' offense in the second half. There was a lot to like from some notable Vikings in Thursday night's preseason opener in Seattle, including Ty Chandler's performance and the NFL debuts for rookies Jordan Addison and Ivan Pace Jr., among others. Minnesota led 10-7 at half, but rookie QB Jaren Hall struggled after the break and the ultimately meaningless result was a 24-13 Seahawks victory. With Nick Mullens at QB to begin the game, the Vikings jumped out to a 10-0 lead when tight end Nick Muse leapt for a touchdown reception early in the second quarter. Mullens was able to move the ball effectively in the first half, completing 14 of 20 passes for 139 yards to players like Addison, Jalen Reagor, and Brandon Powell. Chandler had 15 touches in the first half (11 rushes, 4 receptions), picking up 70 yards in an impressive showing. All eyes were on Addison, the Vikings' first-round pick, to start this contest. He's had an excellent training camp and carried that over to his first NFL action. Addison made a great, Cris Carter-esque toe-tapping catch on the sideline, but it was incorrectly ruled incomplete and the Vikings decided not to challenge (it's the preseason). Addison later caught a 22-yard pass from Mullens that could've been a bigger gain with a more accurate throw. Pace, the Vikings' standout undrafted linebacker, made his presence felt in this game as a run defender. He finished as Vikings' leading tackler with six stops, showing off his burst and power coming downhill. Second-year OLB Luiji Vilain also played well, and rookie CB Jaylin Williams had Minnesota's biggest defensive highlight with an interception. The Seahawks tied the score at 10 early in the third quarter. After a 54-yard Greg Joseph field goal gave the Vikings the lead back, it was all Seattle the rest of the way. Veteran QB Drew Lock played the first three quarters and finished with two touchdown passes before giving way to rookie Holton Ahlers, who threw a TD of his own in the fourth quarter. Hall took over for Mullens in the second half and struggled to move the ball, finishing 6 of 14 for 37 yards. Both quarterbacks were under significant duress in the pocket; Hall responded to the pressure by taking off and throwing several passes away. Mullens clearly had the better performance, but he also played alongside more talented and experienced players than Hall did. The rookie will look to show improvement in the next two preseason games. The Vikings will be back to practicing this weekend. Next week, they'll host the Titans for a pair of joint practices before the two teams play in Week 2 of the preseason at U.S. Bank Stadium on August 19th. INSIDE THE VIKINGS
Basically, its all about getting some PT for certain players and examining various positions... scores are meaningless in my opinion. Hall has a lot to be desired so far in Camp and in this game... but he is just getting a taste of the NFL and Im sure he's nervous and needs a bit more time. Vikings are in an awkward position QB wise. If Cousins and the Vikings have a good season, they wont be able to draft a highly ranked QB prospect and with Mullins and Hall on the bench, they might have to extend Cousins. Its a major concern of mine headed into the future.
The Vikings got to get more physical as the game went on the Seahawks were more the physical team the defense wasn't awful the Seahawks didn't go and up and down the field
Jefferson and Addison - feels like that's going to be a pretty dangerous duo for a long time to come.
The NFC North has some very interesting wr's duo's Packers Watson and Doubs Bears DJ Moore and Claypool Lions Amon-Ra-St-Brown and Jameson Williams and the Vikings Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison the NFC North is always a dogfight but the NFC North should be rocking cause it seems like everybody has gotten better IMO
Does Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah know what he is doing doesn't seem like it I wonder can Andrew Booth Jr ever get it and Lewis Cine was supposed this big time stud player, the spot light is on you are you a football GM or are you pretending to be one I'm just wondering about you if I'm wrong I will admit it
I failed to mention, Kareem Hunt had a visit with the Vikings... still waiting word on how that went.
Then why did he come to Minnesota I don't understand this what was the purpose hey how come your not looking for D-linemen
The Vikings have gotten a key piece of their offense back on the practice field. Right tackle Brian O’Neill, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon during a Week 17 game in the 2022 regular season, participated in team drills for the first time in 2023. “I’m really excited,” O’Neill said, via the team’s official website. “I’m just trying to follow the plan that they’ve got for me and starting to shake some rust off. We’re right on schedule, right where we want to be. They’ve done a great job. We’re not there yet but will be.” The Vikings begin their regular season four weeks from today, with a home game against the Buccaneers. O’Neill, 27, was a second-round pick of the Vikings in 2018, from Pitt. NBC __________ _____________________ Awesome news.
The Vikings signed veteran linebacker and core special teams player Tanner Vallejo after a workout at Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center, the team announced Sunday. In a corresponding move, the Vikings waived linebacker William Kwenkeu with an injury designation. Vallejo, 28, has played 683 defensive snaps and 1,535 special teams snaps since the Bills made him a sixth-round pick in 2017. He has played for the Bills, Browns, Cardinals and Commanders, appearing in 82 games with eight starts. Vallejo has totaled 114 tackles, six tackles for loss, six quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, two passes defensed and three forced fumbles. In 2022, he appeared in all 17 games with five starts for the Cardinals and played 280 defensive snaps and 375 on special teams. PFT
Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson has been limited in practices this summer because of an illness and he shared some details about what he’s been going through on Monday. Hockenson has not been doing any team or contact work because of an ear infection that has affected his equilibrium. He has been able to do walkthroughs and other light work and said on Monday that the issue is “starting to get cleared up.” “I want to be out there with the boys, obviously,” Hockenson said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com. “My favorite thing is playing football with the guys in the locker room and having a great time with them. So it stinks, but on the same hand I’ve got to get ready for September. And that’s what I’m looking forward to.” The Vikings will have joint practices with the Titans this week and Hockenson said he didn’t know if he’ll do more work during those sessions, but having him for the start of the regular season will be the main focus in Minnesota. The Vikings worked out veteran running back Mike Davis on Tuesday, according to Jordan Schultz. This comes after the team previously worked out RB Kareem Hunt on Friday. It remains to be seen if the Vikings will add a veteran to their backfield before the start of the season, but it's clearly something they're at least exploring. Behind Alexander Mattison and Ty Chandler, Kene Nwangwu is injured and rookie DeWayne McBride is still in the early stages of adjusting to the NFL level. Davis, 30, has played for six teams in eight seasons since being drafted in the fourth round back in 2015. The former South Carolina star has had stints with the 49ers, Seahawks, Bears, Panthers, Falcons, and most recently the Ravens. He has career totals of 2,052 rushing yards (3.7 yards per carry), 1,066 receiving yards, and 18 touchdowns. The best season of Davis' career came with the Panthers in 2020, when he stepped in for an injured Christian McCaffrey and recorded 1,015 yards from scrimmage and 8 touchdowns. He also had 700-yard seasons in 2018 (with Seattle) and 2021 (Atlanta). Davis had just ten touches for the Ravens last season. The 5'9", 220-pound Davis was never the fastest player and is on the wrong side of the 30, but he's an experienced veteran who can catch the ball out of the backfield and do the right things in pass protection.
