This is all about a Netflix documentary about Manziel's fall from grace. I haven't watched it yet, but it seems like he gets very candid about the wrong moves he made which spiraled out of control.
Jalen Hurts is two spots too high... Burrow is definitely a better QB and Josh Allen is a better QB AND rusher than Hurts... So if they are including the legs in these evaluations, Allen is above Burrow. Other than that blatant mistake, my only other opinion is that I would move Trevor Lawrence up two spots and Aaron Rodgers down 3 spots and Dak Prescott all the way to the bottom of this list.. There may be one or two more QBs that didn't quite make the bubble that could be argued with Prescott. Mainly because of his injury history which should have some factor in this. He's missed 17 games over the past 3 seasons, that is a lot. Especially considering one of the 3 he only missed 1 game. Last year he missed 5 and 3 years ago he missed 11. If he could stay healthy for certain, I would put him in the latter part of this group, the injuries just make his ranking worse. The rest is debatable, but not worth arguing over.
I might add... This was voted on by the players, who probably didn't do much research, so with that in mind, I don't think they did too bad of a job.
Didn't you hear, he's already declared he's going to throw for over 4,000 yards this year.. Put that with his already success rushing for 1,100 yards and he will be better than the MVP version of Lamar Jackson... Hell, he might be too low... {sarcasm font in full force} Truthfully though, I have always been very high on Fields in the fact he just finds ways to keep the ball moving. I think he has been dealing with a half a deck from a teammate stand point, so as the roster grows, personally I think he grows as well. We'll see.
Justin Fields will start the Bears’ preseason opener Saturday against the Titans. Bears coach Matt Eberflus wants to see that the quarterback has shown improvement since last season. “When you’re looking at the quarterback position, the operation [is] No. 1,” Eberflus said Wednesday, via TheAthletic.com. “Can we get in and out of the huddle crisp and execute the play if we have any run-to-pass or pass-to-pass [or] run-to-run stuff going on?We’ve got to make sure we look at that. Can he make all the protection calls that he needs to make, make the adjustments? Just the operation. That’s what we’re looking for.” Fields played 18 offensive snaps in the first preseason game in 2022, followed by nine in the second preseason game and 30 in the third. Eberflus wasn’t revealing their exact plan for Fields or the team’s other starters on Saturday. “It’s usually a range,” Eberflus said. “Usually I’ll tell guys, ‘Hey, it’s seven to 10 plays. He’s going 12 to 15 plays.’ So you can have a little flexibility there based on the way the drive is going for that particular guy. That’s what we’ll do.” They want Fields to get playing time, but they also are cognizant that third-string right guard Ja’Tyre Carter will start because of injuries in front of him. If the Bears can’t protect Fields, he won’t play long. “You’re always mindful of that, certainly with your starting quarterback,” Eberflus said. “Who’s aligned in front of him? You’re always mindful of that — and what types of plays. So we’re always discussing that. He’s got to be in there playing.” PFT
I think the Bears are going to do Battle with Detroit Lions for the WC this year. The Team has addressed their OL in Drafting and signing FA. This is going to help Fields and they may just be a very improved Team in 2023. Good Luck Bears this weekend in Pre-Season and Go Titans Go.....I want to see Levi in this game.....maybe 2nd half.
Agreed. He is a very good QB with going to be 'great' potential. With the proper OL and a true run game behind him, the sky is the limit. Ive been on his bandwagon since the very beginning and when the Bears snagged him, I thought, oh shit, they got a legit QB now. In my opinion, he adapts well to the situation he's in no-matter what the down is or the score, he's always in a 'move the chains' mentality. I'll admit a slight bias watching him play as a Buckeye, but with scarlet glasses off, he is the real deal and he will get better as things progress (aint too shabby now).
I need more sample size before moving him above some others that have been doing it year in and year out. So far after 2 seasons, he hasn't exceeded Rodgers worst seasons.. He hasn't yet reached Cousins consistency. He hasn't shown the same ceiling as an overall output Lamar Jackson yet, though Lamar is on the decline. I could be convinced to put him above Geno Smith and it wouldn't entail any arm twisting. To me, at this moment, he could end up very Jared Goffesque.. I'm actually a fan of Goff. That would put him more specifically around the 10 spot for me, if we are getting in the "top whatever" discussion. In fact if I am going to give my own rankings today, just using these QBs that the players have chosen, the re-order for me is this: Patrick Mahomes Josh Allen Joe Burrow Justin Herbert Jalen Hurts Kirk Cousins Aaron Rodgers Lamar Jackson Jared Goff Trevor Lawrence Justin Fields Tua Tagovailoa Geno Smith Dak Prescott Next tier that could be on here given different circumstances in 2022: Deshaun Watson (prior to his off field issues, he was a top ten QB, not sure he will ever get it back, but if he does he would be mid-tier of the group above.) Derek Carr (pretty consistent QB, I put him in the same tier as the final 4 above) Matthew Stafford (is his career over from injuries?)
Patrick Mahomes Josh Allen Joe Burrow Justin Herbert Jalen Hurts Kirk Cousins Aaron Rodgers Lamar Jackson Jared Goff Trevor Lawrence Jimmy Garoppolo Tua Tagovailoa Brock Purdy Dak Prescott I would trade out Fields and Smith for Garappolo and Purdy.
This is all 32 from my personal list (notebook stuff). Here's where I would have them now (rookies don't qualify so they bottom the list): Patrick Mahomes Joe Burrow Josh Allen Jalen Hurts Trevor Lawrence Lamar Jackson Justin Herbert Aaron Rodgers Jared Goff Kirk Cousins Kyler Murray Justin Fields Derek Carr DeShaun Watson Russell Wilson Tua Tagovailoa Matt Stafford Dak Prescott Jimmy Garoppolo Geno Smith Ryan Tannehill Daniel Jones Desmond Ridder Brock Purdy Mac Jones Kenny Pickett Sam Howell Kyle Trask Jordan Love Anthony Richardson Bryce Young C.J. Stroud Here's where I expect my rankings to line up at the end of the season (way too early projections): Patrick Mahomes Joe Burrow Trevor Lawrence Justin Herbert Jalen Hurts Josh Allen Jared Goff Lamar Jackson Tua Tagovailoa Justin Fields Aaron Rodgers DeShaun Watson (the Browns are not finishing last in the AFC North) Kirk Cousins Russell Wilson (Payton's impact is going to be big in Wilson's bounce back) Derek Carr Anthony Richardson Matt Stafford Kyler Murray (gonna slide some over recovery and coaching change) Geno Smith Mac Jones C.J. Stroud Dak Prescott Desmond Ridder Bryce Young Daniel Jones Brock Purdy (I have the odds-on Lance coming in at some point this season higher than most) Kyle Trask Jimmy Garoppolo Kenny Pickett Will Levis (I have Tannehill being benched at some point this season) Jordan Love Sam Howell (I have the Commanders revolving the door between Howell and Brissett) I commented on a couple that I though some would ask about, but I have notations for the rest if anyone asks.
This is why I don't have the 49ers in Super Bowl predictions like national talking heads do. I am not convinced at all that they have a QB solution in San Fran. Their offense will rely on whether Christian McCaffrey stays healthy. The defense they have can take them far... but they at least need a game manager to do it. I'm not sold on either Purdy or Lance at this point. If they go far in the playoffs, it will be because one or the other takes a major leap and is able to stay healthy.
Very good and interesting stuff on the QB's guys... enjoyed reading it. Here's my take on the already player voted subjects. 1) Mahomes 2) Burrow 3) Allen 4) Hurts 5) Herbert 6) Lawrence 7) Cousins 8) Jackson 9) Goff 10) Fields 11) Rodgers 12) Tags 13) Smith 14) Prescott I found this little exercise a bit difficult when evaluating todays QB's since there are quite a few different styles and variables involved, but I just threw it together quickly based on not just team winning %, but overall play of a certain QB in any situation, especially on how skilled they might be as compared to a winning program.
4-way tie... just kidding, but I do like the Bengals to win that Division and I think its very possible to see the 3 remaining teams actually come out in a 3-way tie, if not real close to it.
Will Levis: I’m looking forward to going out and playing Titans head coach Mike Vrabel didn’t tell reporters who’s going to start at quarterback for his club in Saturday’s preseason matchup with the Bears. But whether he’s the first or second signal-caller on the field, rookie Will Levis is likely to receive plenty of playing time in his exhibition debut. The No. 33 overall pick of this year’s draft, Levis told reporters on Thursday that he’s looking forward to experiencing an opponent. “I’m just excited,” Levis said Thursday, via Jim Wyatt of the team’s website. “I’m so pumped for all my boys to just go out there and to ball out. Haven’t been hit in a while, so it’s going to be interesting to remind myself of how that feels. But, I mean, nothing’s better than football and I’m just looking forward to going out and playing.” Levis noted that he’s feeling “much more comfortable” within the offense after going through the first couple of weeks of training camp. “A lot of room for improvement, but just in terms of being able to run these plays a few times, having a few reps of different plays under my belt — the only way to get better is through reps and live reps through all this stuff,” Levis said. “I’m still learning a lot of new things about the different concepts that we have and what works versus what looks and how just changing where my eyes start in a certain play could’ve helped it drastically. Seeing improvements is good in that area.” As for what Levis wants to show against the Bears on Saturday, the quarterback talked about getting the basics right. “Just showing that I’m a reliable quarterback for this team, that I can go out there and operate and get the job done,” Levis said. "[I want to] make good decisions and just hope to do my best.” Levis and 2022 third-round pick Malik Willis are expected to get the bulk of the work at quarterback versus Chicago. Willis was listed at No. 2 on the team’s unofficial depth chart with Levis at No. 3 behind Ryan Tannehill. PFT
