MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK

Baker Mayfield, Kyle Trask both listed as QB1 in Tampa

The first Buccaneers depth chart of the summer includes no hints about who will be their starting quarterback.

Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask are competing for that role and the depth chart makes no distinction between them. The depth chart lists Mayfield or Trask as the team’s No. 1 quarterback ahead of their first preseason game.

That game takes place on Friday night and it’s not known which of the quarterbacks will be taking the first snaps against the Steelers. Given the timeline that head coach Todd Bowles has hinted at this summer, it seems like a good bet that one quarterback will start this week and the other one would get first crack at leading the offense against the Jets on August 19.

Offensive coordinator Dave Canales said last week that the competition has tightened up and this Friday will bring the first extended look at just how things are falling into place for the Bucs offense.

Stefansky still fuquing Baker over. Won't even allow him to beat out Trask.

    Okay . . . I'm your huckleberry and I'll ask.

Precisely, how is Stefanski preventing Mayfield from beating out Trask for the Buc's starting gig?

I think he’s referring to the narrative that Baker’s struggles in Cleveland were due to Stefanski purposely sabotaging him.

I'll take the most blame for @beachbum 's post. I used every excuse except the obvious to explain the failures under Mayfield as the starting QB. Keeping that tradition alive, I still believe he can be a successful QB in this league given the time to grow within an offense and stay healthy in any given season. I still believe he has the skillset, but circumstance really has killed his career to date.

Did Mayfield get to live in the stadium for free, or was he required to do the maintenance there to meet his obligations?

He changed light bulbs, it's not known whether he had to pay for the bulbs or if they were provided. I'm told he had to pay for all condiments while entertaining his book clubs.

Good stuff guys, I needed a good laugh this morning... who doesnt, right?

    Meanwhile...

Browns starting quarterback Deshaun Watson did not play when the Browns began their preseason slate a week early at the Hall of Fame Game.

But that will change when Cleveland hosts Washington on Friday night.

Watson told reporters in his Wednesday press conference that he’ll start against the Commanders.

“Just try to operate and be as sharp and safe as possible,” Watson said, via Zac Jackson of TheAthletic.com.

Watson added that he’s not sure how much he’ll play.

After coming off his 11-game suspension last season, Watson completed just 58.2 percent of his passes for 1,102 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions as the Browns went 3-3 in his six starts. Watson also rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown.

The Browns also have Joshua Dobbs, Kellen Mond, and rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson on their roster at quarterback.

I read something to this effect yesterday and I was surprised. Johnny Football even admitted to it. Seems very odd and just another kinda eerie quirk in his perplexed life.
