Vikings sign RB Abram Smith The Vikings are adding a running back to the roster. Agent Murphy McGuire announced that his client Abram Smith has signed with the NFC North club. The team has not made any announcement of Smith’s signing or any other roster moves on Friday. Smith signed with the Saints after going undrafted out of Baylor last year and then moved on to the XFL’s D.C. Defenders this year. He was named to the All-XFL team after rushing for 788 yards and seven touchdowns. Alexander Mattison is the lead back in Minnesota. He suffered a minor injury earlier this week and Smith will provide depth behind him along with Ty Chandler, Kene Nwangwu, and DeWayne McBride. PFT
Once he is officially placed on IR, that will open up a roster spot, so im guessing, if they dont have a comparable practice squad member they just might sign someone else. Sure is a tough break, he was a good player.
This Abram Smith looks ŕeally interesting he might have all those breakaways runs in XFL but I don't think he will that kind of success in the NFL the guy is interesting though
Maybe the will sign, Ndamukong Suh? There is a handful of FA's out there that still have something left in the tank, im curious how they fill the spot.
Some stuff ive read seem to indicate Risner may not be happy about being a 'backup', he has been a starter throughout his career. So, Im guessing he didnt sign for that reason leaving the Vikings to get a couple players that dont mind the rotational role.
He's been around for a while does he have àny gas in the tank? who a free agent the Vikings can sign that's the one million dollar guestion
With contract possibly coming, T.J. Hockenson hasn’t been practicing much As Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson prepares for his first full season with the Vikings, he’s currently not doing much actual preparation. Via multiple reporters covering the team, Hockenson has not been participating in team drills during padded practices. On Saturday, he was not in uniform for the full-pads session. Hockenson is due to make $9.3 million in 2023, the fifth-year option of his 2019 first-round contract. The Lions traded Hockenson to the Vikings during the 2022 season. The Vikings gave up a second-round pick to get Hockenson will full appreciation of the fact that they’ll eventually need to pay him. Unless he’s got an injury that has yet to be disclosed, he’s avoiding potentially serious injury until he can get the kind of contract that will properly reward him for his skills and abilities as one of the better tight ends in football. Vikings recognize need for bigger margin of victory The 2022 Vikings spent much of the season hearing criticism claiming the team wasn't a true contender, despite their 13-4 final record and NFC North crown. The team broke a record for the most games won by one score with 11, often pulling victory from the jaws of defeat and even coming back from 33 points down in their Week 15 game versus the Colts. And quarterback Kirk Cousins knows that while the end result of those games came out on their side, that might not be the case in 2023. "Well it's so uncommon, I mean you really can't rely on it moving forward," Cousins said in an interview with NFL Network's Bucky Brooks and Rhett Lewis on Saturday's Inside Training Camp Live. "I think it's something that you say, 'Love it, love that we did it, love the character and resiliency that it took to do that,' but if you think it's going to be copy and paste, you're fooling yourself. We've got to be a team that can win more decisively, pull away from people and it doesn't have to be in 11 one-score games. … And that's certainly one of the challenges we're issuing to ourselves as we go through camp." The Vikings will be looking to return to the postseason and make a deeper run after being upset in last year's Wild Card Round. But the division looks to be getting stronger around Minnesota, with some pundits predicting the Vikings could be unseated as the top dogs. In order to silence the doubters, the Vikings will need to find a way to avoid those close-game situations. NFL.com
Vikings sign free-agent wide receiver N'Keal Harry The 2019 first-round pick spent last season in the NFC North with the Bears. N’Keal Harry was a first-round pick in 2019 by New England who joined Chicago last season. The Vikings now have four receivers who were drafted in the first round after Sunday's signing of N'Keal Harry, who played his first three seasons in New England before moving on to Chicago a year ago. The last pick of the 2019 first round, Harry, 25, played in only 33 games, starting 18, with 57 catches for 598 yards and four touchdowns in three seasons with New England. The Patriots gave up on him, trading him to the Bears for a 2024 seventh-rounder last year. Harry had ankle surgery last summer and failed to produce with Chicago. In seven games, he caught only seven passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. Harry fills the roster spot opening created when the Vikings placed defensive lineman James Lynch on injured reserve. Lynch suffered a season-ending knee injury in Thursday night's practice. The 6-4, 213-pound Harry had 22 touchdown catches at Arizona State. He now joins Vikings first-round picks Justin Jefferson (2020) and Jordan Addison (2023), as well as Jalen Reagor, whom the Eagles drafted one spot before Jefferson and traded to the Vikings last season.
