Last season, the Vikings were eighth in points scored (424) and seventh in total yards (6145). Through the air, they were sixth in yards (4484) and fourth in touchdowns (30). Thats not too shabby. Im expecting even better results this year with a full season of Hockenson and the addition of Addison. If the Vikings can muster a run game, watch out.
The Vikings added depth to their offensive line Tuesday. The team announced it signed free agent offensive tackle Bobby Evans a day after signing tight end Colin Thompson and offensive guard Jack Snyder. Evans briefly was on the Vikings’ practice squad late last season. He entered the NFL as the 97th overall pick in 2019, going to the Rams, and he spent nearly four years with the team. The Rams cut Evans on Dec. 31 last season. Evans’ time with the Rams overlapped with Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell’s stint as the Rams’ offensive coordinator. Evans has played guard and tackle, seeing action in 35 games with 12 starts. Four of his starts came last season. He played collegiately at the University of Oklahoma, where in 2018 he was part of an offensive line unit that won the Joe Moore Award as the “toughest, most physical offensive line in the country.” NBC
The Vikings have signed tight end Colin Thompson and guard Jack Snyder. Minnesota announced the additions Monday, one day before the full team is scheduled to report for 2023 Vikings Training Camp presented Omni Viking Lakes Hotel. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Giants in 2017, Thompson has been a gridiron journeyman of sorts. Thompson was waived by the Giants in November 2017 and joined the Bears, whom he was with through the 2018 season. He played for the Alliance of American Football's Birmingham Iron in 2019 and for the XFL's Tampa Bay Vipers in their 2020 season. Thompson returned to the NFL that spring when he joined the Panthers for the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons. Vikings Tight Ends Coach/Passing Game Coordinator Brian Angelichio coached Thompson with the Panthers from 2020-21. Collegiately, Thompson started at Florida but re-injured a foot he'd dealt with in high school and was ruled medically ineligible. He transferred to Temple after being cleared to return to football. The Pennsylvania native attended Archbishop Wood Catholic High School and helped the football team earn the PIAA championship during his senior year. He was ranked the No. 2 tight end in the country and played in the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game. Snyder originally was signed by the Rams as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft. He played collegiately at San Jose State and holds the SJSU record for most starts (52) and most games played (57). In 2021, Snyder was part of an offensive line that allowed just 21 sacks on 402 pass attempts. Prior to attending San Jose State, Snyder stood out at Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California, where he played, guard, tackle, tight end and defensive line. He was a two-time San Francisco Chronicle Honorable Mention All-Metro selection and a First-Team All-League offensive and defensive lineman. Snyder played center on his high school basketball team, as well. VIKINGS.com
Wes Phillips: Maybe people haven’t realized how good Alexander Mattison is When Minnesota re-signed running back Alexander Mattison to a two-year, $7 million deal in March, it signaled that the Vikings were going to make him their RB1 entering 2023. That became official when Minnesota released Dalvin Cook last month. Entering his fifth season, Mattison has been productive in his limited opportunities behind Cook, averaging 4.1 yards per carry in 59 games. He’s also caught 70 passes for 526 yards with three TDs. On Thursday, Vikings offensive coordinator Wes Phillips said that Mattison has proven his abilities since Minnesota selected him in the third round of the 2019 draft. “He always knows what to do,” Phillips said in his press conference. “He’s very intelligent, as far as our scheme, our system, pass protection. And then he’s a talented back when he’s running it. He’s always running forward. He’s got more wiggle than I think some people give him credit for. There were a lot of times when the free guy in the hole — the eighth guy — he made him miss last year when he had his [opportunities] and then made some plays in the passing game as well. So it was kind of a no-brainer for us to try to get Alex back. “The consistency of who he is every day, what he’s put on tape every opportunity he’s gotten. His multi-faceted run game, pass protection, and then his hands in the pass game — his route-running ability. I think we’re going to see a lot of good things and maybe people didn’t realize how good a player Alex Mattison really is.” Mattison’s most productive season was 2021, when he started four games and finished with 719 yards from scrimmage — 491 rushing along with 32 catches for 228 yards. While the Vikings also have Kene Nwangwu, Ty Chandler, and rookie DeWayne McBride at running back, Mattison will have every opportunity to demonstrate his value in Minnesota’s offensive system this season. Vikings OC Wes Phillips is comfortable with Alexander Mattison on all three downs. “I think he’s proven it over his career, when he’s gotten opportunities, and he’s been very productive,” Phillips said. "(It’s) the consistency of who he is every day, what he’s put on tape every opportunity he’s gotten: His multifaceted run game, pass protection and then his hands in the pass game — his route-running ability. I think we’re going to see a lot of good things, and maybe people didn’t realize how good a player Alex Mattison really is.” High praise, though the Minneapolis Star Tribune expects each of Ty Chandler, Kene Nwangwu and DeWayne McBride to receive opportunities. It is ultimately difficult to envision Mattison handling Dalvin Cook-level workloads, especially as the Vikes openly talk of wanting a more efficient run game. Mattison belongs in the RB18-24 zone in summer fantasy drafts.
Who ever has the hot hand time to work in Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu maybe Ðewayne McBride might find some PT but I think it's Special Team for him...whoa the pressure is on Alex Mattison to produce cause Dalvin Cook is not here anymore
Report: Vikings exploring trade options for Danielle Hunter Danielle Hunter is unhappy with his contract, which could lead to the Vikings’ edge rusher getting a new home. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports the team is looking into trade options for Hunter, letting other teams know he is available. Hunter, who is in the final year of his contract, wants more than the $4.9 million base salary he is due this season. The Vikings have attempted to extend Hunter’s deal, per Fowler, but are not close to agreement. Hunter reported to training camp on time but is not practicing. His “hold-in” comes after he skipped organized team activities and the mandatory minicamp. Coach Kevin O’Connell this week called Hunter’s dispute a “day-to-day” situation this week. Hunter, who had his deal reworked two offseasons ago, returned last season after two seasons of injuries to make 10.5 sacks. He has 71 sacks in 102 career games with the Vikings. NBC
Jim Marshall was snubbed again in getting into the 2024 Hall of Fame. Everybody but Baddman and I hate the Vikings, I guess.
Seems like ever since Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah got here, it just seems like confusion is running wild I'm not sure is Danielle Hunter really is on the trading block,ìf that happens you do ĥave à plan right IN KWESI-ADOFO-MENSAH I DO NOT TRUST for the D-line this would be a big blow
WTF again what do they have against Jim Marshall for denying him entrance to the HOF looks like he'll get in when he's dead its so sad
Danielle Hunter: I want to be a Viking forever Vikings edge rusher Danielle Hunter and the team agreed to a new contract for the 2023 season over the weekend and it includes a clause that will keep the Vikings from using the franchise tag on Hunter after the season. That doesn’t mean Hunter is planning on catching the first flight out of Minnesota when the season comes to an end, however. While past talks on a long-term extension didn’t lead to an agreement, Hunter told reporters on Monday that he would still like to work out a way to remain with the team. “I want to be a Viking forever,” Hunter said, via Dane Mizutani of the Pioneer Press. Hunter is guaranteed $17 million for the 2023 season and any next steps will be determined in large part on the kind of production he puts up in the coming months. PFT
Free Agent G Dalton Risner to visit Vikings. Widely considered the top offensive linemen remaining on the free agent market, Risner’s market has been almost nonexistent this offseason. The Vikings return all five starters along the offensive line from a season ago but lack depth on the interior, making Risner a good fit assuming he is fully recovered from the season-ending elbow injury that ended his 2022 season.
Vikings sign OLs Christian DiLauro, Jarrid Williams The Vikings have made a few moves along their offensive front. Minnesota announced on Thursday that the club has signed Christian DiLauro and Jarrid Williams. DiLauro has bounced around to several teams since going undrafted in 2018. But he’s appeared in five games over the last two seasons — two with Tennessee in 2021 and three with Denver last year. All of his snaps came on special teams. Williams initially signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent last year. He then spent time on Detroit’s practice squad before signing a futures deal with Philadelphia. He was let go from the Eagles in May and spent time with the Steelers before Pittsburgh waived him on July 30. As a corresponding roster move, the Vikings have released offensive lineman Bobby Evans. A Rams third-round pick in 2019, Evans signed with Minnesota’s practice squad after Los Angeles waived him late last season. Evans had re-signed with the Vikings in late July. NBC
What happened to Dalton Risner did the Vikings let him walk out the door? cause these two seem like camp bodies or depth players got to check them out cause I have no idea who they are
