It will be interesting to watch but at first glance it appears to me that the approach most of the veteran dynasty players I know take will make the salary cap moot. Only time will tell. I'm excited to see it unfold.

It's possible, but the initial cap setting came right back in line with where it started before it was increased pre-draft ($250mil was the original/$267mil was created as a draft safety measure).

That opening number was created by looking at initial contract cash, starter/bench spots and average amount of player adds/cuts/trades in a season (based off our original dynasty leagues).

What I think will happen will be two years of cash realigning (dead money/free agency/rollover spending) followed by a third year of situations where owners have to pay a little more attention to the moves they make as the cap tightens some.

I doubt we see a situation where more than a couple teams end up cap strapped to where it may impede them, but I do think the numbers will come into play more and more as owners are forced to make hard decisions on extensions, when to use the tag, and how to sell/buy in trades to rework cash.

One of the lesser active owners had 12 cuts and 1 two player trade last season. That would work out to roughly $2.5mil in dead cap based off of the vet min. Now, in order to build up a roster with players that have more than one-year contracts, you have to either bank on hitting 3 rookies or spend some money in FA to get contracts with additional years. Let's say they spend little but still drop $7mil in the bucket. Now you add in the rookie contracts (roughly $30mil in new money (if you sign them all)) and you're already close to $40mil in new money.

Depending on how much fat you cut in the offseason, that new cash on the books may quickly change your perspective on how to approach the next season's spending.

What I'm hoping for is to see a wide range of methods to build a roster. That's the part that will be interesting for me, personally.

    Hey all,

May have a couple of dumb questions so please bear with me.

    1. I thought waiver pick ups were in increments of 1, 2, 3 and so on but I'm seeing a 1.300 and 1.500 am I missing something.

    2. Taxi squad, if we have a player on taxi squad over 30 days we can cut them with no hit to cap space, is that correct?

And 2nd question on taxi squad is how does taxi squad work when season is over? Are they automatically cut? Or do we have a taxi squad?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Also, I may have more dumb questions through course of season.

I can answer the 1st part. The salary minimum is $1M. Each $1 is $1,000 (or 1.000 as you write it). So if you want to make a bid you MUST bid at least $1000 which translates to $1,000,000. Any winning bids under that amount will be adjusted by Tim (Campbell) to reach the minimum.

Yes, that's exactly how I read it but when you look at the waiver pick ups I'm seeing different amounts.

Some examples fournette was picked up at $1700 and jelani woods $1500

Well you only bid $1, $2, $3, which equals to $1000, $2000, $3000. MUCH lower than the minimum. Others are bidding more than $1000 (i.e. $1M) because they don't want to get outbid.

Mainly because some GM's/owners are bidding 1500 or 2001 to make sure they at least outbid anyone who may have offered 1000 even... if I follow you correctly.

Fournette had a $1000 bid, ignoring the roster being full, that bid would have still lost out on the $1700 bid.
As for Woods, You may have meant $3M but that would have needed a $3000 bid, so your $3 and any bid below $1500 would have lost to the highest bidder.

As I stated in my previous post (I think we posted at the same time, lol), those bids by GM's are just to out-bid someone who may have voted the Vet min whioch is 1000.

If I really want a player and Im gussing someone else might also, I'll bid 3,500 just to cover their bid at 3000 if thats what they may have done.

Yes, now I get it, thought we could on bid in increments of $1000

As Joe stated, its important to remember that the minimum bid is 1000, which equals $1M. If you bid any number below 1000 its bogus, but if no one else bid on that player, Tim will adjust you to a $1M bid if you happen to have placed a bid below 1000.

I'll shut up now as too many people trying to help may cause confusion. I apologies for that if I caused any.

No you guys were a big help, I didn't understand the bid process, thought you could only bid by the $1000

We essentially parroted each other which helps give confirmation so it was good we both showed.

As for the Taxi, we'll need @Campbell to give the nuances. Willie and I may think we know part of the answer but it's the preseason so timings and windows may cause some confusion if we assume wrong.

It might make it easier to look at each bid as an offer sheet.

Dan Marino has an offer of $1,000,000 from Will on a one year contract, but Joe puts in an offer of $1,700,000.

Marino will take the highest bid, even if Will is the cooler dude with more Percocet, er, I mean perks to offer.

That's reflected in our bid system as a $1000 offer from will, and a $1700 offer from Joe.

    Does this help clarify?

You still in Europe? Man, I cant even begin to imagine being there. My great grandparents are from Germany with the exception of Grandma who is from Denmark. Im very envious of you to have been able to go there. I always wanted to go to Germany and England to see the old castles.

Yes, thank you I just read the waiver process incorrectly.

So if I want to bid on Marino for $2359 I can.
