New white helmet as an alternative uniform to be used in 3 games

So you're saying they have more cap room.......

I honestly thought he was on the roster bubble to begin with due to his performance and attitude from last year. His recent shenanigans made it that much easier of a decision.

The Browns are expected to work out breakout XFL star Jahcour Pearson this week before starting training camp.

Standing at 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, Pearson led the XFL in receptions (60) and receiving yards (670), while tying for eighth in receiving touchdowns (four) in 10 games this year for the Seattle Sea Dragons.

For the most part, I tend to agree with you. However, in this case, there is some historical significance.

The Browns entered the NFL in 1950 (after 4 years in the AAFC). They didn't wear orange helmets until mid 1951. In those days the ball was also white for games played under the lights. At the same time, TV was starting to make headway into American homes. (Naturally, it was black and white TV.) The TV network approached the NFL with a problem that, for night games, it was difficult for the cameras to track the white ball with one team also wearing white helmets.

The Browns, unwilling to give up TV revenues, agreed to wear a colored helmet for night games only beginning in 1951. In 1952, they ditched the white helmet altogether and have worn the orange helmet ever since.

It's a great history lesson, and I do appreciate it. However, it doesn't validate Nike's design decision here. The Bears have worn brown, white, and orange helmets in the past. They shouldn't wear any of them again. That orange helmet last year was something I'd expect a child to come up with.

If y'all like it, more power to you. Not yucking anybody's yum. I just hate how money allows companies with horrible designs / products to monopolize an entire space (see also: Fanatics in the NHL). We get screwed because one unrealistically massive company can pay another more money.

Would really love for them to bring back antitrust laws and enforcement, while they're working on those helmets.

I’m a traditionalist through and through.. I don’t mind the white helmet for 3 games due to the past element.

However, the league is no longer trying to get me to watch more games, they were doing that in the 80s and it worked. They are now marketing a new fanbase and they couldn’t give two shots if the Browns have ALWAYS worn only an orange helmet, if they once wore white helmets or if they once had numbers on the side of those helmets no matter the color, they want to be entertained and see new elements added to keep them interested. This younger generation is spending more on this Nike hoopla than I ever did in the 80s when the league was hooking me on great football and marketing players to get me to the TV every Sunday and Monday night.

It’s a new world and the league, with its capitalistic framework, must change to gain new viewers. It’s working…

    Crazy Crextin’s Musings:

How do fellow Lounge Houndz! :rally:
I’m still on the green side breathing O2. Been lurking and doing my best to rinse the bile from my mouth. Preseason is upon us and thought I’d check in.
I’m not sure how/or if I should get excited about the upcoming season. Too many questions that cannot be answered until they actually start playing.

    1) Stefanski? I don’t’ need to tell anyone how painful it was to watch the debacle of the Jets game last year. Then the disaster in Vegas against the Raiders, trying to utilize the passing game w/ the emergency QB, hen Chubb was running 8-10 yds / tote. Others…
    · Discipline – Will this team be more disciplined?:ouch:
    · Adversity – Can this team recover from bad plays/situations/injuries?:punch:
    · Game Management – Will Stefanski improve this year?

    2) Schwartz – How good will the defense be? There is talent, but very little depth. LB/DT are especially thin/ untested.

    3) Games are won or lost in the trenches. The o-line is one of the best with good depth. The D-line… Let’s just say I hope they stay healthy all year.

On paper it looks as if the offense should seemingly score at will. We’ll see how well they play. The talent around Watson should give him plenty of opportunity to shine. I’m still not sold on Watson.

Defense wins championships:helmet:. Well… let’s just say I’m not buy any post season game tickets.

Hope this finds you all well.

Here's a few thoughts from the HOF game...

Agree w/ Lyman: Mond will be bagging groceries before camp is over, not even sure if he'll be a practice squad guy.

I did like how DRT was able to extend plays and make some decent throws. Long way to go for the rookie, but his first outing was nice to see.

I agree, Mond’s career is most likely over. The biggest question at QB for the Browns is going to be who is second string and who will occupy the newly added extra 3rd QB emergency roster spot?

DRT might just push Dobbs to be the immediate backup. Dobbs has experience on his side… and for the record, I believe Dobbs could have been just as efficient against 3rd string players.

So is Phil Dawson and Matt Bahr.

Speaking of Dawson…..why the hell don't they get him in as a special coach to mentor York and help cure his case of The Yips?
