Trying to wrap my head around this.
So I have Burrow with a year left at $11,000.

I extend him 3 years at $13,000 (hypothetical, whatever), and it’s a trade chip in that you could acquire him from me without spending one of your two 3 year extensions?

As a follow up, you’re gaining a star at 3 years without wasting an extension, and we can hypothetically split the first year cap hit at $6,500 each so I can charge you more in trade?

Or did you just mean I’m eating the trade penalty and that amount is subtracted from your total?

What you propose here is a possible trade scenario, and you can work on dividing up both base and cap hit monies.

In your scenario, the upside to the receiving team is astronomical, so the return would have to be an all-galaxy kind of get back.

GMs can get as creative as they want within the framework of the rules.

Also, per the rules book -

All conditional trades will need to have the conditions run by the commissioner prior to completion in order to make sure they do fit within the rules

To be clear though dead money is dead money, right? Dead money can not be traded away? Only the base salary can be split up right?

In Truth's scenario (3yrs, 13M - immediate trade) he would have an immediate 15% trade penalty (1.95M). The sign and trade team would absolutely have to eat that correct?

Acceptable as an official abbreviation. But remember you are playing Cats or Stu Cats and not just Stu.

Correct, and I see how my wording in that post may be confusing.

    As an example -

I deal Tannehill to another team. Here's his current contract:

    R. Tannehill QB TEN
    Cap Hit
    $8,500,000
    Cut Hit
    $1,530,000 $1,275,000 $935,000
    Trade Hit
    $1,275,000 $1,020,000 $68,000

His total deal would be worth $25,500,000.

Let's say I have him on the first year of a 3 year deal. I immediately incur the penalty hit of $1,275,000.

Now, as part of the negotiation, I agree to eat $5,500,000 of his total salary. That would be structed as money over the course of the entire contract, or as a single year bounce for the receiving team. That would be their choice, with the trading team having to eat the total of the money in the following season (cannot be stretched over the life of the original contract).

If the split is uneven, then the cap hit rounds up to the next $1,000?

Does that clarify it a little better?

Everything looks good! I don’t know how to take it, I thought I paid a little frivolous, but I’m definitely not the highest cap I see.

Actually, running it back, You have Devon Witherspoon at $1,000,000. Should a first round rookie be at $5,000,000? Or is there a stipulation where if they are after the first 3 rookies chosen, they revert to the league minimum? I read, but couldn't find clarification.

That’s a mistake on my part and thanks for pointing it out.

    I’ll correct it later today.

No problem, and I looked again... It's 5,500,000, not 5,000,000
