No one really reached or did anything out of pocket through the top of the draft, and I see it reflected in some really balanced rosters throughout.

Should be competitive early and the first couple off seasons will likely be key for teams getting ahead of others.

 

So, at most we could extend 6 contracts (2 3yr. 4 2yr)
'Cause of course for me Hooker isn't playing this year so, I drafted him with the intention of keeping him longer than one year.

Plus the tag, so you can attempt to lock up 7 players or shift contracts (add years to current deals) in any manner that you think may benefit you long term.

Side step:
What cap value hit will current free agents have during the season?
Current tier and rookie value?

 

Since we acquire free agents through the blind bid system, whatever you pay out is what the contract becomes for a 1 year deal.

$1000 = $1,000,000 in our system, so if you bid $3,500 and win, you would be on the hook for a one-year deal at $3,500,000.

So @Campbell let’s pretend Burrow had 1 year remaining this offseason. I could use a 3Yr extension on him already.

Would he be under contract for 4 years at that point?
And the new wage wouldn’t kick in until after that initial 1 year had expired?

That would be incorrect.

If you use a 3-year extension on a player with one year remaining, you are creating a new contract at 3 years in length.

The new money would immediately kick in.

It all depends on how you want to balance your books, and what you are trying to do in the immediate future.

Plus, it can be utilized as a trade incentive (cap hits can be percentage split).

There's a lot of reasons to consider doing it prior to that final season. It all comes down to what you are trying to accomplish in a given offseason.
