Mike Vrabel on DeAndre Hopkins: We want players who want to be here

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed a Wednesday report that receiver DeAndre Hopkins will take a free-agent visit with the club.

“The first thing is we want players that want to be here,” Vrabel said, via Jim Wyatt of the team’s website. “We’ll work through anything else. We brought in a bunch of different players, and DeAndre will be somebody that we’ll bring in next week, early next week, at the end of this week, and go through the same visit we’ll go through with everybody and start the process.”

Vrabel and Titans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly both have familiarity with Hopkins from their shared time with the Texans. Kelly held the same position with Houston in 2019, which was one of three seasons Hopkins was named a first-team All-Pro with the franchise.

Though it’s Hopkins’ first foray into free agency, Vrabel said he’s not one to recruit.

“I’m past the recruiting — I did that in college,” Vrabel said. “Again, we really just want people that want to be here. And if that works out, then you go on to the next step.

“This will be pretty much it until either sign or don’t sign the next player.”

Wyatt noted that Vrabel then shut down any more questions about Hopkins.

“I’m going to talk about the players that are here, and when DeAndre is here I’ll visit with him,” Vrabel said, “and then we’ll move on when we make any other transactions from there.”

In 14 career games against the Titans, Hopkins has caught 89 passes for 1,396 yards with nine touchdowns — including a nine-catch, 238-yard, two-TD performance in a 45-21 victory back in 2014.

Looks like Dalvin Cook is getting released. What fantasy backfield is he going to destroy? Miami is the cleanest destination.

Its Kwesi and his analytical approach. Cook along with all the Vikings are just numbers on a spread sheet. Im bummed and pissed all at the same time. Bummed the Vikings are throwing up a white-flag in the RB room with cutting Cook when he could have been restructured and had millions shoved into the future. Pissed at all the 'stars' on the team getting tossed, trade-bated and released because they make money.

The Vikings are better than last year and seem to be hell bent for election to go 4-13 in 2023.

The only anecdote for all of this is a stellar season for Mattison (Im not holding my breath on that either). Chandler, McBride and Nwangwu, get your helmets strapped on tight, your going to be needed to step up.

It's hard for me to trust him Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah Jamison Williams fell right in the VIKINGS lap then the next thing I know he's a Detroit Lions and Christian Watson a Green Bay Packers, he's always going silent so nobody has an idea what's going on Mattison it's boom or bust for him and Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah I just don't trust him maybe i will proven wrong

    • WR Demarcus Robinson: Los Angeles agreed to terms Thursday with the veteran receiver, per his agents. Robinson spent the 2022 season in Baltimore, hauling in 48 catches for 458 yards and two touchdowns, finishing as the Ravens' leading receiver. The 28-year-old previously played six seasons with the Chiefs.

Kwesi comes from the Browns and Andrew Berry as one of his mentors. Analytics don't necessarily mean, cut the highest paid players, or even undervalued positions, like RB. There has to be more to this than that.

Frank Clark agrees to sign with Broncos

Edge rusher Frank Clark won’t be with the Chiefs in 2023, but he will be sticking around the AFC West.

According to multiple reports, Clark has agreed to a deal with the Broncos. No terms of the deal have been reported.

Clark was released by the Chiefs in a cap-clearing move in March. He spent the last four seasons in Kansas City and helped the Chiefs to a pair of Super Bowl titles while being named to three Pro Bowls.

Clark had 39 tackles and five sacks in the regular season last year and added seven tackles and 2.5 sacks in the postseason. He had 10.5 sacks in 12 overall playoff games for the Chiefs.

Randy Gregory, Baron Browning, Nik Bonitto, and Jonathon Cooper are the other members of the edge rushing group that the Broncos hope will help them get a chance to see Clark play in the postseason.

Tyreek Hill aims to break NFL’s single-season receiving yards record

Tyreek Hill broke the Dolphins’ single-season receiving yards record in his first season in Miami. His 119 catches were also a team record, and he went for 1,710 yards to break Mark Clayton’s 38-year-old team record for yards.

    Hill wants more this season.

His goal is 2,000 yards, which would set the NFL record.

“Oh yeah, for sure [it’s a realistic goal],” Hill said, via Adam Beasley of profootballnetwork.com. “I think the added [17th] game gives me quite the advantage, so yeah.”

Hill still would have to average 117.6 in 17 games to reach 2,000 yards. He averaged a career-best 100.6 last season.

Calvin Johnson set the record of 1,964 yards in 16 games in 2012, nine years before the NFL went to 17 games.

“For me, not getting injured [is the key], coming in each and every day wanting to get better, wanting to be coached,” Hill said, “and I feel like I’ve got the right tools around me. I’ve got obviously the most accurate quarterback in the NFL. I’ve got one of the best head coaches in the NFL, and also my position coach is a monster. So, just having those three things and me just keeping the same mindset each and every day that I want to get better and I want to break the record, and I do want to break the record. So, I feel like this is one of those years that I can achieve it.”

The health of Tua Tagovailoa will play a big part in Hill’s chances of reaching 2,000 yards. The quarterback missed four games in 2022 with concussions, and Hill had three of his least productive games when Tagovailoa was sidelined.

The two are expected to continue their work on their own this offseason.

“I’m really hoping that Tua wants to go back to Hawaii because that way, I can sneak a vacation in with the family and also get some work in,” Hill said.
