Looking like it wasn't a medical situation with D. Washington. More of a choose your flavors situation with all the TEs. He should be a great fit for Pittsburgh. In their system they'll use him primarily as a blocker who doubles as an outlet pass.
On top of back-to-back 1000-yard rushing seasons and a 7.0 rushing average last year, Charbonnet is a fantastic receiver for a RB and is also a competent blocker. If you're building a pass-happy attack and looking for a top-tier RB who can be a weapon catching passes out of the backfield, he's the best all-around choice that this draft class has to offer. I had plans to take him at #41 in the mock until I got Saquon Barkley in a trade.
Fun question for the group... if you're representing the same teams as you did in the mock, is your board looking better or worse right now than it did during the mock? I think it was at various points throughout the fourth round that just about all of us found our target lists had been put up against the wall and shot.
My board is much shittier at this point than during our mock as many of the guys I drafted went already but we'll see how it looks after the 4th. Then again the Eagles don't pick until the 6th and they got Carter and the guy I drafted for them. So it's all good. Didn't get Bergeron but got Steen who I like about the same and Didn't get Branch because we got Nolan but got Brown instead. Everything is looking nice in that sense.
I love Carolina’s first two picks. Not sure how I feel bout the trade up for and edge guy they probably could have gotten with their 4th. ravens only have had two picks but Simpson is tremendous value and makes the LB corp nasty and faster.
What about your target lists for the upcoming rounds? That's what I meant - in the mock, are the guys you would have wanted in rounds 4-5 still readily available, or would you be scrambling to pick up the scraps like most of us were by the fifth round? I think it was either RT or Joe that said in the fifth in the mock that we were already at the point of "pick your trait" - you weren't going to find too many players remaining that seemed like all-around quality, so you just had to decide something specific you were looking for (eg size with leaping ability for a WR, coverage skills for a strong safety, etc) that might make a player more valuable to you than to everyone else. As an example, I'd say the fifth rounder I took for the Titans (WR Derius Davis) SHOULD be a faller in the Challenge. But in this draft, who knows? If real teams start going into that "choose your trait" mode in the fourth round, they might pull the trigger based on his PR/KR skills and take him even earlier than I did.
Yeah Trenton Simpson one of the bigger surprises for me, getting out of the 2nd, then landing behind Roquan/Queen. I think Simpson vs Drew Sanders vs Jack Campbell was an interesting comparison this year. Surprised we got one in all of the first 3 rounds. Really kind of expected all three to go between 26-56 honestly.
As far as I’m concerned, pick your trait in real life started no later than the selection of Brenton Strange. I heard about him as a sleeper a couple times, but when I turned on the tape I came away thinking no thanks. Can’t believe how high he went. He’ll get his chance to prove me wrong.
The pick Atlanta used to trade up for Bergeron was the conditional pick they got from the Titans in the Julio Jones trade. So Atlanta got LB Troy Andersen (who already stepped into a starting role late in the season) and the trade capital they needed to get their starting left guard. The Titans got jack out of Julio. That's part of why Ran Carthon is now the brand new GM for Tennessee...
I'm loving the trading that the Bears have been doing. (Huge surprise, I'm sure.) They just got a 5th rounder for moving down 12 spots in the 4th.
Of course.... Kelee Ringo to Philadelphia. I will say I thought the talk about Ringo going in the first or early second didn't fit. He really wasn't that good in 2022. Third round? That fits. Top of the fourth? Definitely.
This far in: My Colts mock I went: QB / CB / WR / OL Real life team went: QB / CB / WR / OL That's pretty good lol
I was expecting a DB today, as DB and WR are the last two "openings" that I see on Atlanta's roster. I would have guessed it would have been a safety rather than CB, but I also suspect that some of the backup CBs (Darren Hall, Cornell Armstrong) are going to cross train heavily at safety in training camp this summer.
I see Clark Phillips kind of fitting that expectation Torgo. He’s nickel-sized, but really plays with a Safety’s mentality. He probably plays nickel early and learns to fill some snaps outside and maybe even as a third safety down the line. I really liked his tape.
