The Titans draft is complete. If you want a quick take: Tennessee had six picks. I came away with 14 players. I'm happy. Slightly different recap this time: I wanted to get a true Titans fan to represent the team. @Vancouver Volcanos has been with us since the old days on the CBS forums. He wasn't able to join us this year due to time constraints, so I recruited him to be the mastermind behind Tennessee's draft strategy while I announced the picks. If you liked the Tennessee draft, the credit goes to V.V. If you think the draft is a bunch of muppets, that's on me. V.V. wanted me to get a successor / replacement for Ryan Tannehill at QB. He doesn't see Malik Willis as true NFL material, and later in the draft he asked me to go ahead and trade Willis if I could. I drafted Will Levis in the first round, and later I followed V.V.'s request and swapped out Willis for Drew Lock. QB room = Tannehill for now, Levis for the future, and Lock for emergency depth. The second top priority is that he wanted a successor / replacement for Derrick Henry. I traded for Saquon Barkley and also for Jordan Mason, a name that V.V. had mentioned as a potential throw-in that we might obtain if we did a trade with San Francisco. The real Titans drafted Hassan Haskins last year. Haskins is also the primary kick returner. RB group = Henry and Barkley for now, hopefully Barkley plus Haskins and Joseph for the future. Two position groups that V.V. mentioned for adding depth were the edge rushers and offensive line. I drafted LSU edge rusher B.J. Ojulari and traded for third year DE Ade Ogundeji. For the offensive line, I acquired potential swing tackle Jalen Mayfield (3rd rounder out of Michigan two years ago, rushed into action too soon by Atlanta), developmental center/guard Keith Ismael (another specific name that V.V. had mentioned as a target) and developmental tackle Tyler Vrabel. Not sure how well it's going to go having Vrabel playing for his dad, but I watched him in practice during training camp last year and liked what I saw. He's a legit NFL prospect, and I think he's a future starter if he kicks inside to guard. I also drafted a pair of WR prospects to help with the passing attack, a solid blocker at TE, and a punt returner / slot receiver. One of those WRs, Andrei Iosivas from Princeton, is likely to need a bit of development time before making significant contributions. But he's 6-3 with a 39" vertical and 4.43 speed. Getting him in to work with Levis from day one should pay dividends down the road. Drafting the TE (Tucker Kraft, South Dakota State) will also allow the team to use Chigoziem Okonkwo as a pure receiving TE or line him up outside at WR. I also added linebacker Mykal Walker via trade and drafted S Brandon Joseph for defense and special teams. Defensive additions: Edge rusher B.J. Ojulari, LB Mykal Walker, DE Ade Ogundeji, S Brandon Joseph OL additions: OT Jalen Mayfield, C/G Keith Ismael, G/T Tyler Vrabel WR/TE additions: TE Tucker Kraft, WR Andrei Iosivas, WR Michael Wilson, PR / WR Derius Davis I think I covered all the areas that V.V. requested, and I think the Titans are in pretty good shape heading into training camp.
@MaroonTyphoon = OTC and then stand by because @LAOJoe has the Raiders pick in hand and you're up again after that.
Sorry, I think I missed something. What are we voting on? Nevermind, I just expanded it and read the bottom of the post.
BTW the "Also receiving votes" part won't show votes on 2nd options you gave if your first option was a valid vote. I am about to post the Raiders pick. @IrishDawg42 or @RTTRUTH can you vote for the Falcons? There is a tie that must be broken between multiple players.
With the 7th pick of the 1st Round Collab, The Las Vegas Raiders Select Paris Johnson Jr., OT - Ohio State Also Receiving Votes: Jalen Carter, Hendon Hooker, Anthony Richardson, Devon Witherspoon
Is there a list of names, or are we supposed to just throw someone out there? Sorry, I missed this when it started, it's been a very busy week.
The list of players already taken: 1) Carolina Panthers - Bryce Young, QB - Alabama 2) Houston Texans - CJ Stroud, QB - Ohio State 3) Arizona Cardinals - Will Anderson Jr., EDGE - Alabama 4) Indianapolis Colts - Will Levis, QB - Kentucky 5) Seattle Seahawks - Tyree Wilson, DE - Texas Tech 6) Detroit Lions - Christian Gonzalez, CB - Oregon and he just announced 7) Las Vegas Raiders - Paris Johnson, Jr, OT - Ohio State So vote (send him a PM) on who you think the Falcons should take at #8 and see if your choice can turn the 2-way tie into a bigger tie...
I'm not the least bit surprised that the votes are evenly distributed between multiple players. As I said in my PM, we really don't know after two drafts if new GM Terry Fontenot is pure need, BPA, or somewhere in between. I get the impression that he's somewhere in between. The BPA side could have the pick all over the place. Two names not taken yet jump out at me, and in the real draft I suspect the trade offers to move down would be pretty sweet if the first seven picks fell as they did in this list. On the need side, the articles from the media are typically way off base and/or out of date. The writers are lazy and do nothing more than scan a few brief stats before throwing out their half-baked opinions without even thinking about the roster changes or the situations that generated those stats in the first place. If they really studied the roster, there's one big hole that jumps out in a huge way that the team hasn't addressed yet. They've done something with every other position/group on the roster except for one starting spot. To me it screams that Terry Fontenot is probably planning that position for #8 (or his new spot after trading down, which is how I would play it tomorrow night). But even then the votes could easily have been split between multiple names.
