Yeah that was Keanu Neal they bumped up way too high. Oh wait. That was the Falcons front office. Never mind.
Would be kinda funny to argue back last 10-15 years, who was the worst at drafting what position. Greg Millen not allowed
Close... I had to look it up because I couldn't remember the name. It was a bit farther back than I thought - same draft class as Neal. The one they jacked up in the rankings at the last minute was T.J. Green, who wasn't drafted by Atlanta but did end up with the Falcons a bit later on.
LoL even better. I was ripping on your team, but it was my squad that spent a 2nd rounder on him. Ryan Grigson days. Had minimal experience, mostly safety. But had impressive athletic numbers and we overdraft him to play CB, which he was really inexperienced at. Horrible pick.
My favorite Falcons example would go back 25 years rather than 10-15. Dan Reeves was a good coach, but he also had control over personnel - and his track record with WRs was so bad it was utterly surreal.
Atlanta set the table by drafting Dez Southward at the top of the third round a few years earlier. WTF was Dimitroff thinking on that one?? I'm guessing it was "hmmm.... he has good workout numbers, and he's from WISCONSIN!! What could possibly go wrong?"
There was an article somewhere that included a random number generator where you would click a button a bunch of times to generate seed numbers that would randomly select players from the draft pool. It then told you how many games played / games started your randomly selected draft class had compared to Millen's draft class. It was really, really hard to come up with worse results than Millen.
That was before Reeves. Best specific example for Dan Reeves picking WRs was the 1998 draft. He had already taken Georgia Tech star linebacker Keith Brooking in the first. In the third, Georgia star WR Hines Ward was there for the taking. Instead, Reeves takes U. Miami receiver Jammi German. Why? Because he didn't think Hines Ward (sometimes described as a guard in a WR's body) was a good blocker.
Ever heard of these guys? Eugene Baker Rondel Menendez Mareno Philyaw Vinny Sutherland Quentin McCord Kahlil Hill Michael Coleman Jon Olinger LaTarence Dunbar That's every WR that Dan Reeves drafted from 1999 through 2003, when he was fired. He also traded the team's 2003 first round pick for Peerless Price. Ten draft picks wasted in five years at the same position.
The best was when one year Will reached and took some no name safety/linebacker hybrid for the Vikings that no one heard of. Belichick proceeded to take him in the 1st or 2nd round. Will was a genius until he wasn't when he sucked and was out of the league by the end of his rookie contract.
Yeah Jordan Richards is the only guy I can think of who fits that description (excepting that Richards did actually manage to kick around on the back end of the Ravens roster for a few years after his rookie deal)
Either it was another unofficial mock he did it in, or it was someone else. I'm looking through it, unfortunately some stuff from when the site was mudncleats is gone and all remaining links go to Asian porn. lol.
