Tim had posed a question once upon a time asking if we could have just one position group with above average players, what would it be. That got me thinking about the LB roles and how other positions on defense could use system design to help offset shortcomings. That combined with the cap hell that Chicago and Atlanta had last year got me taking it a step farther - would it be possible for a team in cap hell AND in total rebuild mode to put together a complete no-budget defense? I'll just say that before I finished putting it together, I had some serious munchies. But the result was what I call the Stoopid Defense. Details are on the Random Opinion thread. Well... once upon a time defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan said that GOOD teams can generate pressure with just a four man front. But his Bears defense wasn't good enough, so he was going to send as many as it took. He was NOT going to let the QB sit back and pick him apart. His STOOPID idea was to play both outside linebackers on the same side and play the DE/edge on the other side out at the wide nine - and blitz like hell. Another defensive coordinator named Jerry Glanville had the same general idea eight or nine years before that - send EVERYBODY if you have to. Glanville rushed as many as nine guys. I'm sure everyone knows those defenses by name/nickname. But that's why "420 cover zero" could potentially be scary as fuck. Even if Jerome Boger throws some bogus roughing the passer flags, those pretty boy quarterbacks will still take a beating all day long.
And I just realized that I never did get around to posting about blitzing in the Stoopid Defense. Oh well.

I love me some Jack Campbell, high for an off ball LB in this class? Maybe but I just think he has the potential to be so damn good. I also think he screams throwback Raiders/Steelers type LB
2nd round isn’t too high for anything other than maybe K/P Doesn’t exactly strike me as a Jack Lambert type though.
