I think it's old Looney Tunes stuff, but every time I use that GIF, I immediately get this song stuck in my head -

I had a manager that was from Tennessee and he used to talk about the streams of whiskey flowing through his backyard.

Never mind the talk about birds an bees after that.

 

When I drink too much I become incoherent. So I have to smoke too much to make up for it. There’s a strain of weed here called peyote cookies that I used to smoke every day. When I smoked some with anyone else they were stupidly incapacitated while I was able to still function.

 

He was hanging at the jungle fires (burn barrels by the railroad tracks), when Gid came through smoking a blunt, talking about crystal mountains (crystal meth), big rocks of candy (crack), streams of alcohol and lakes of stew.

Between the tire fire smoke, second hand blunt smoke and the aforementioned meth and crack, I'm pretty sure every hobo there was stoked to follow this pied piper into some strange and far away land.

That's very interesting to hear. That puts a bit of reasoning to it.

 

Do all sports leagues put their players guaranteed money in escrow?

 

It would really make sense. What if the owner went bankrupt

 

No. But in the NHL a percentage of the players guaranteed money they actually earn each paycheck goes into escrow to give back to the owners if revenue is down, although they get a top up bonus not figured into the cap if revenue is higher.

So the salary cap is basically just for roster purposes and players/teams know the number will vary slightly from what they sign.

 

Im not so sure. Jackson should have maybe taken whats been offered and roll with it. Now when Jackson deals with the Ravens, the Eagles with Hurts latest contract could come back to bite Lamar. Ravens brass are no doubt going to use the Super Bowl thing as a weapon against Lamar... Hurts has one, Lamar doesnt. It could be, IMO, a tool that the Ravens brass will use against Lamar.

Just a hunch on my part, I dont see an advantage for Lamar, just another angle for the Ravens to use against Lamar when it comes to negotiations.

 

This was actually the original point back in the days before owning an NFL franchise was essentially printing money. But I am not so sure this is necessary anymore and it definitely hurts some teams more then others. The Raiders can't really compete with the likes of the Panthers and the Browns when it comes to throwing around guaranteed money.

 

So, the 49ers are taking 'phone calls' on trade offers for Lance and as per usual the Vikings keep coming up on the talking heads web sites. Im not buying this and dont want it in Minnesota. Lance hasnt proven anything on the NFL level, so why would any team invest in an uncertainty? He may be great some day, but how the hell do we know now?

Deshaun Watson: It’s a night-and-day difference from this time last year



On his first day of the Browns’ offseason program a year ago, Deshaun Watson faced uncertainty. He was with a new team, learning new teammates, and had a suspension hanging over his head.

He eventually served an 11-game suspension for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy after more than two dozen women accused him of sexual misconduct during massage sessions.


The Browns quarterback begins this offseason feeling different about where he is.

“It’s night and day,” Watson said Tuesday.

Watson had not played in almost two years when he returned to the field last season. He did not play like a quarterback worthy of the largest guaranteed contract in NFL history, throwing for 1,102 passing yards, seven touchdowns, five interceptions and posting a 3-3 record in six starts.

“Last year, it was just a whirlwind, but it was a good learning lesson for myself and for me to be able to grow,” Watson said. “Coming in this year, I’m ahead of the game from where I was previously.”

Watson now has settled 23 of 25 civil lawsuits in Texas and deferred questions to his “legal team” about the two remaining cases.

He has served his suspension, and he now feels comfortable in Cleveland and with the Browns.

“Last year, I had only been to Cleveland twice — when I came on a pre-visit and when we played,” Watson said. “Outside of that, it was my first time up here with everything going on. All of that is in the past, like I said before, and I’m looking to move forward with my life and my career, just being able to really plant myself in this community, this city and also in this organization for a very long time. Win a whole bunch of games.”

Watson has spent most of the offseason near Houston, throwing to some of the team’s wide receivers. His return to the team facility this offseason also has had a “night-and-day” feeling to it for the Browns compared to this time last year.

“For Deshaun, to have that season under his belt and those experiences and be able to learn from everything that’s happened last year into the past, I think he’ll be a better player for it,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. “I think we’ll all be better for everything we’ve been through.”
