I don’t know Willie, the Bears managed to turn a five TE roster into the number one overall pick. Just be leary of trading for someone else’s problem WR for the first pick in the second round.

Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah is making me nervous in Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah I do not trust, and in these mock draft most of them have the Vikings taking a cb no linebackers or d-linemen no offense tackle and no qb or wr

I think it would be extremely foolish to draft a CB with their first pick... I really dont put much stock into a lot of these mock drafts that are floating around out there. Ive been watching them for a month or better and they seem to change nearly daily. CB is a strong need for the Vikings, but ive been saying that there will be plenty of them in the later rounds. The more important needs, imo, are WR2, DL or LB and even a QB IF the right one is available, but no rush on a QB is necessary with Cousins still here for 2023. It would be nice to have a QB get some tutelage from Cousins for a year, but it isnt the end all at this moment.

I also believe (after further review) it might be wise if the Vikings traded back for more draft capitol if they chose to go LB, DL or WR2...

The problem this draft for Minnesota is they have so many positions that are priority needs and very little wiggle room. Im sure Kwesi and KOC are a bit perplexed also as they try to come up with a plan.

But anyway, There are a few things they can do, but they are going to have to be smart and lucky all in one and hopefully the brass has the intellectual craftiness its going to take to make a deal when trading up or down... I dont think they will stand pat at #23.

Makes for an interesting Draft for sure.

Vikings 'ideally' would have QB of future develop for season behind Kirk Cousins

A contract year lies ahead for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Cousins' successor might well lie ahead for the taking in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft, as well.

Should Minnesota select a signal-caller at No. 23 overall or beyond, Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah believes it would be the best-case scenario for a franchise QB of the future to have a season to develop behind an established starter.

"We talk about that all the time. I don't know that there's one right answer, to be honest," Adofo-Mensah told reporters Thursday. "Ideally, you probably would want to have a year to have the person in the building, or something like that, but I don't know if that's necessary."

Necessary or not, it's a view mirrored by Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell, who believes in a draft-and-develop scenario, but was adamant in underscoring how excited he is to have Cousins under center -- for 2023, anyhow.

"Ideally, you would love to have that person in that role developing behind a great player like Kirk, but I don't think you ever sacrifice it being the right player," O'Connell said. "Regardless of the when, the where, the why, the how, you can't sacrifice that. Cause you have to have ultra-belief and connection on making that decision cause it is such an important decision.

"But I will say, very excited about Kirk in Year 2 in this system. It's been a while since Kirk's been able to say that he gets to come back in the same system he ran previously with the same play-caller. We've had a lot of great dialogue with him about ways we're gonna look to fine tune what we did and grow and improve. That'll be a big part of 2023 for me, not only as the head coach, but play-caller, and our offensive staff."

Ive seen reports the Vikings have done extensive work on QB's, Hendon Hooker and Jaren Hall. Hooker might be there at #23 and Hall might be there somewhere down the line mid-draft, so there are a couple opportunities for the Vikings to snag a QB without doing anything to over the top.

I wanted the Vikings to stick and pick this trading back just reminds me of Rick Spielman but the Vikings have to trade back to get more picks time to see if Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah can. you really wheel and deal oh yeah your right here they got to LUCKY!!

Vikings the favorites to draft Hendon Hooker

Four quarterbacks are expected to go in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft: Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Kentucky’s Will Levis and Florida’s Anthony Richardson. The next question is where Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker might go.

The betting odds suggest he might go to Minnesota.

The Vikings are the betting favorites to draft Hooker, with DraftKings currently listing them at Minnesota at +350 as Hooker’s landing spot. Up next is Seattle at +900, Tennessee at +1000, Detroit at +1100, New England at +1200 and Tampa Bay, Las Vegas and Washington all at +1400.

The Vikings own the 23rd overall pick in the draft, which some might see as too high to take Hooker. But the Vikings don’t have a second-round pick, so if Hooker is a quarterback they think could be their starter some day, the first round may be where they need to take him.

The decision-makers in Minnesota have said that ideally they’d like their next franchise quarterback to spend a year developing behind Kirk Cousins. Hooker going to Minnesota, spending 2023 on the sideline and then taking over for Cousins in 2024 could be an option.

Dalvin Cook’s agent makes telling comments about Vikings

Running back Dalvin Cook certainly appears to be on his way out of Minnesota, and the four-time Pro Bowler's agent made some comments that only reinforce that likelihood.

In a recent appearance on the “Caps Off” podcast (h/t OutKick), Cook’s agent Zac Hiller made some interesting remarks about his client and his performance for the Vikings. Hiller argued that Cook has been excellent while also alleging that the running back has been playing with one healthy shoulder.

“People are starting to realize, Dalvin averages 107 yards per game, he has Hall of Fame numbers, but he’s been in Minnesota and they’ve been mediocre,” Hiller said. “He actually has incredible statistics.

“Also, he’s been playing with one shoulder. Like, purposely — and this is part of the business — purposely he’s been turning certain ways thinking about the fact that he’s about to get hit and not necessarily trying to land on his shoulder. Now he’s got his shoulder fixed. This is going to be the first time in a while that he has both his shoulders. When we did this contract, he only had one shoulder. That was the understanding of the contract. They knew.”

Cook’s shoulder issues have been well-documented. The 27-year-old running back managed to play a full schedule in the NFL for the first time last season, having never played more than 14 games in a campaign prior to 2022. Despite that, he still has four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to his name.

Cook and the Vikings already appeared destined to part ways at some point during the offseason. His agent calling his team “mediocre” probably does nothing to hurt those chances.

mediocre why if he felt that way why didn't he ask for a trade I know the Vikings have not step up to being elite but c'mon this is sounding like sour grapes!

Report: Vikings may cut Dalvin Cook before NFL draft

The Minnesota Vikings have been holding onto running back Dalvin Cook throughout the offseason, likely in hopes of finding a trade partner. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Saturday morning’s Sports Center, the Vikings could potentially cut Cook before the NFL draft, leaving “all options on the table”.

“I’m told all options are on the table here and that he could be released closer to the draft if things don’t work out,” Fowler said. “They had talked to at least one team about a trade in the past closer to free agency, so he is certainly a name to watch.”

Holding onto Cook and then releasing him right before the draft signals that they couldn’t find a trade partner. Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was asked about Cook being on the team next year and he kept it vague, signaling that Cook won’t be on the team next year.

“Again, conversations are always ongoing with him. We’re trying to be solutions-oriented and always trying to put the roster together within our constraints and we’ll continue those conversations.”

Once the Vikings signed Alexander Mattison, Cook’s future looked bleak and that seems to be coming to fruition.

The Vikings would save $5.89 million if they release him pre-June 1st, $7.89 million if they trade him pre-June 1st and $11 million if they do either post-June 1st per Over The Cap.

Well it's looking like Dalvin Cook your history I wonder will the Vikings do anything concerning you on draft day do you want to be a member of the Minnesota Vikings being that they were so mediocre

  16. Badd_Man1 M.V.P. Vikings

he was able to fool and trick the team doctor and trainers about his shoulder injury yeah right like they didn't know,if he was so unhappy why in hell didn't ask for a trade years ago?

Its all about the money. Cook wants paid and he is good when at his healthiest and the Vikings are strapped for cash. I dont like the release rumors when at the moment he should be trade bait.

Id like him to stay, but its a mean business.

Vikings, Dalvin Cook remain at a crossroads

Although the Vikings didn’t trade or release running back Dalvin Cook at or about the start of the league year last month, it still might happen.

Cook’s $10.4 million salary remains largely non-guaranteed. Of that amount, $2 million became fully guaranteed on March 17. When he wasn’t cut before then, some assumed he wouldn’t be.

But there are two important things to remember. First, it’s believed Cook couldn’t have passed a physical before March 17, due to a lingering shoulder problem. That would have prevented the Vikings from avoiding an obligation that previously was guaranteed for injury only. Second, with only $2 million guaranteed, and given that the contract undoubtedly includes an offset obligation, Cook would likely earn at least that much with another team, if/when he’s cut.

Earlier this week, G.M. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made it clear that things remain decidedly unclear between the Vikings and Cook.

“Conversations are always ongoing with him,” Adofo-Mensah said during a recent pre-draft press conference. “We’re trying to be solutions-oriented, always trying to put the roster together within our constraints.”

Those constraints are complicated by the investment the team has made in running back Alexander Mattison, who signed a two-year, $7 million deal to remain with the team in lieu of leaving as a free agent.

“If you knew for sure that he would be on the roster,” Adofo-Mensah was asked, “would you have committed what you committed to Alexander Mattison?”

“You know, I think that’s — I think in theory they could exist, of course,” Adofo-Mensah said. “Different style of backs. Again, we talk about the systems we’re trying to play. Together, they’re different style of backs. They could fit complementary together, for sure.”

The balance of the $10.4 million salary doesn’t become fully guaranteed until the regular season arrives. That gives the Vikings flexibility. And it allows them to see what happens during the upcoming draft.

Will they find a replacement in the draft? Will they trade Cook to another team before, during, or after the draft?

Looming over everything is Cook’s $10.4 million salary. It will be difficult for the Vikings to trade Cook’s contract as it currently is. To do a deal, they’ll have to get Cook to agree to a new contract with another team.

However it goes, it feels as if something will be going on. And there’s a good chance the picks made by the Vikings or not made by other teams could lay the foundation for a trade. Or, if all else fails, a clean break between the Vikings and the man who became their immediate replacement to Adrian Peterson in 2017.
