The Floyd pick was one of those high first round picks, kinda like Eli Apple for the Giants, that I immediately hated. Right now, I think Paris Johnson will be the pick, and that's where I have him currently mocked.
This nails it. There really isn't a PR issue to start with in Carter's case. He didn't rape, molest, assault or rob anybody. I'll also throw in that based on everything that is known, the media is painting a much worse picture than what teams are seeing when they do their due diligence. The one and only character concern on Carter is that he has two legal incidents for reckless driving / racing, and I'll take it as given that he had driven at excessive speed, recklessly and/or raced MANY more times before that. But... that's it. Todd McShay once vaguely implied that teams need to be concerned about his character, but even McShay has backtracked and said that everything about his football character has been positive. There has been absolutely nothing negative about him outside of the accident and his previous speeding ticket, while there have been plenty of positives. So if you're a team looking to draft him, yes, the Henry Ruggs comparison is certainly a concern. Are his street racing days behind him? If so, there's no issue in drafting him. I contend that Dany Heatley and Calvin Ridley should be important comparisons as well. The kid has been through a traumatic event. It's almost certain that his head isn't screwed on straight right now. We may have already seen that come into play with his poor performance at UGA's pro day. The connections: Ridley walked away from football five weeks into a season for mental health reasons (this was BEFORE he got himself suspended for another season). Any team considering Carter with a high pick will need to make sure he has plenty of support to make sure that doesn't happen with him too. Heatley was a train wreck for about two years after his accident that killed a teammate. If it's going to be year three before Carter can finally move on and play to his potential, you wouldn't want to use a high draft pick to take him.
I think if the Bengals move down, it will be because the DT or DB that they want is either gone or they think they can get somebody in the early part of round 2. I have had other Bengals fans/analyst argue that it could be the Steelers with the 1st pick in the second round. I don't think they will relinquish it to a divisional team. I could see the Cardinals or Rams be the potential trade targets if they do move down and either team needing someone still on the board. However if a Brian Branch were to fall, it would change the Bengals outlook on trading out.
I am in the Bengals corner, that is all we do, oh and actually win the division, forgot that point too. lol (couldn't resist)
I really agree with this. The OL must be addressed first if Im calling the shots for the Bears (best shot i ever called was old #7 for everybody), but if Carter is there it will be something to seriously consider, but i doubt he will be.
Im not even sure it matters anymore. Its has been a 'winning is everything' league for a long time. If someone is healthy and a beast at a position that needs filled, I dont think their off-field life-style means diddlysquat anymore these days.
In part from; PFT Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, a top prospect in the upcoming draft, has had questions emerge from an off-field automobile incident that resulted in formal charges and, not long thereafter, a no-contest plea to misdemeanor racing and reckless driving charges. In the other car, two individuals crashed and perished. Via the New York Post, bodycam video from the scene includes Carter denying that he was racing. “Were you racing to Waffle House?” an officer asked Carter. “Because I can tell you right now by looking at the damage on that car they were moving.” “I wasn’t racing,” Carter said. Carter later can be heard speaking on his phone to someone who called while he was being questioned. “I feel like he is trying to get something out of this or something,” Carter said. “I’m not trying to get anything out of you,” the officer replied. “I am just trying to find out how this happened and what you saw of it.” _________ ______________________ So, he says he was and says he wasnt... Might have been just running scared, but it shows to me that he's a potential problem in a few areas.
That pick was roundly disliked on the Bears board too at the time, tho strangely not by Aggie, the Bulldogs fan who adamant this was the pick of the century heh. Might also take this opportunity to point out several on our board were in utter disbelief that the Bears were dumb enough to pass on Tunsil, most notably blang, Bear-Man and yours truly. Yeah.... As for Paris Johnson, please God, let old Timothy be right.
Colts working out Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud Monday The Colts are kicking off the next stage of their pre-draft quarterback evaluations on Monday. Albert Breer of SI.com reports that the team is working out former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young and former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud to kick off the week. Both workouts will take place in California as both players are training there. With the Panthers and Texans holding the top two picks, there are plenty of people who expect Young and Stroud to be off the board by the time the Colts are up with the fourth overall pick. Peter King reported in Football Morning in America that the team also plans to work out former Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson and former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis this week. The Cardinals are set to pick third, but could trade down and the Colts could wind up doing the same if they don’t like the quarterback options left on the table for them once they are on the clock. That leaves the team with a lot to sort out as they head toward the start of the draft later this month. via; PFT
Jalen Carter to visit Bears Monday, has met with Eagles Former Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter‘s landing spot in the draft has been the subject of much discussion since word broke that he faced criminal charges in connection to a car crash that killed one of his Georgia teammates and a member of the team’s football staff in January. Carter entered no-contest pleas to misdemeanor racing and reckless driving charges last month and will receive probation as part of the plea deal. Carter’s attention has now shifted back to where he’ll be playing to kick off his NFL career. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said that Carter is visiting with the Bears on Monday and that he has already met with the Eagles. The Bears have the ninth pick and the Eagles are at No.10, and Rosenhaus said that his client will not be meeting with teams outside the top 10 selections. “I’m confident Jalen will go in the top 10,” Rosenhaus said, via Adam Schefter of ESPN. “He’s a good person, a family man, loves football and is a generational talent.” Some projected Carter to be the first defensive player off the board before his legal trouble and he also had a subpar Pro Day workout last month, but it remains to be seen how far he might fall before hearing his name called in Kansas City. via; PFT
Could not agree more Tim. At the time Chicago needed plenty. And I’m thinking like a 239Lb Edge or whatever he was. Dion Jordan for all his athletic traits didn’t fare much better at 3rd overall for the Dolphins (different year but still). Do you remember the conversation that ensued when I criticized Apple back then? LMAO Still an all-timer for me on here I think.
I’ve been tip-toeing around this. There’s two things I hate doing. One is being a Doomsday fan of my team. And two, I hate overpaying to trade up. But staring down #4 this year, with the prospect of Stroud/Young going 1-2, and another team jumping into #3 to grab Richardson, just leaves me with an ominous feeling. I hate the thought of Will Levis being our next Quarterback. I just see like the worst of Carson Wentz reincarnated. So if I had to choose the lesser of two evils, I’d say try to get into 3 for any of those other guys if you can do it without losing another 1st. I think the real front office has actually talked to Hendon Hooker a fair bit. We’re interviewing all of them, but it’s possible he’s leading the pack in FaceTime. What does that mean? I don’t know. Just what I’ve read. I’d be much more wait-and-see if he were ultimately the pick. But still doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence for me. If you end up watching any more of Hooker Tim, tell me if you see a little hesitation, waiting to see if guys come open. I know you mentioned it with Stroud. I thought I noticed more possible pauses with Hooker waiting to verify those deep routes. Without more All-22 I can’t be sure. But it felt like it 2-3 times on tape for me.
Just don’t schedule the workout. No sense at all in doing something that will hurt your draft stock with every other team too.
I forgot to answer earlier but the Eagles should not trade out of the 1st round with their 1st pick. They should pick at that spot or trade down/up slightly. Maybe down more if someone wants to trade up for a QB. As for the 2nd pick, it's the 2nd last pick of the round. I can't really complain of a move either way. A 2nd and 3rd would be nice but that is a spot where you might want to draft before the sweet spot runs out.
Depends how valuable you see a 5th year option at that point. The sweet spot in this draft is rounds 2-4
I mean Usually, and a bit in this draft, you can get a nice sweet spot in the late 1st/early 2nd. A bit later might be more value than usual but if you want 1 guy it might not be worth going to the mid 2nd.
