NFL can’t go the way of pay per view. They need the guaranteed money of tv contracts to negotiate their CBA.

Pay per view is a perfect set up for prize money. The bigger the ticket, the more an INDIVIDUAL makes.

The formula isn’t conducive to doling out 2,000 contracts per year.

They are as close to pay per view as they are going to get, giving pay channels the right to bid on tv contracts. Not everyone will have the pay service they give the rights to, so in essence, it already IS pay per view. You are just getting more than one game if you are willing to pay for that service to see them.

Marvin Jones is back in Detroit.

Via Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Jones is signing with the Lions on a one-year, $3 million deal, which could reach a max value of $5 million through incentives.

Twelve years of data says it doesn't cause more injury but a bunch of talking heads and football fans will parrot that message every chance they get.

I think this is just another case of piling on the NFL. It amazes me how many people use every opportunity they can to bury something that brings them so much joy.

It is hands down the greatest professional sports league in the world. It got that way because a bunch of really smart people made a lot of really good decisions.

Are they perfect? Clearly not but they are pretty damn good. Why not just enjoy it from year to year instead of constantly trying to tear it down?

Gotta rant at the fringe media again...

Suppose that an article grading each team's offseason up to the end of last week notes that your team has "signed a stud" for the defense, "added three more potential starting defenders", "found a pair of weapons" for the offense (both potential starters, depending on personnel package), and added a QB #2 that they imply is capable of challenging for the starting role.

That's six potential starters and a key backup added, plus your team has resigned three of their own starters and added a few other backups that weren't named in the article.

Pretty good offseason so far, right?

Nope. The article grades it as the worst offseason in the conference and tied for the worst offseason grade in the entire NFL. The writer gives them a D- for "used resources well". Wait... NINE potential starters and at least one major backup rates a D minus ?? Whiskey tango foxtrot ?????

In this case, the article is the free agency grades done by Football Outsiders last Friday. The writer responsible for butchering Atlanta is Vincent Verhei.

One of his main gripes is that Atlanta didn't add an edge rusher. Ground Control to Major Vincent: they did, and you even named him in the article. The Saints used Kaden Elliss as an edge rusher in the back half of last season. He racked up six sacks in those seven games. Will the Falcons know he can be effective that way? Well, even if the pro scouts were completely incapable of watching game film, it's worth noting that the New Orleans position coach who lined him up as a pass rusher was Ryan Nielsen. Atlanta's new defensive coordinator is... Ryan Nielsen. So that's not it. Maybe Professor Marvel doesn't count him as an edge rusher because he's listed as a linebacker and not labeled EDGE in 24-point bold typeface. Here's a clue, Vincent: in a base 3-4, the OLBs are the edge rushers. Whatever the reason, that's a pretty significant fumble for the article that immediately shows this guy doesn't have a freaking clue.

Next up: he graded the team with a D for "coherent plan".

Ummm... the defense was 27th in the league. They have a new defensive coordinator and several new defensive assistants. As of the article date, they had signed a top safety ("a stud" according to the article), a corner, a DT, and a OLB/edge (all potential starters according to the article), an ILB (not named in the writeup), resigned another OLB/edge, and apparently talked a NT into coming out of retirement and playing for the team after all.

If that's not enough for Vincent Verhei to figure out that The Plan is overhauling the defense for the new coaching staff, he's a bloody idiot.

He actually did give them a B- for improved roster, so the last-in-the-NFC overall gradde comes from the alleged poor use of resources and not having a plan that Verhai is capable of comprehending.

His write-up also makes it pretty clear that he's a complete stranger to the concepts of system fit and developing players. So... eff it. He's a bloody idiot.

I’m surprised that the Steelers got a pretty decent score in FA according to experts. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not because they don’t have a clue what they are talking about.

Personally, most of the stuff being reported is interesting if its quoted players and coaches... writers opinions are just that, opinions.

Whats key for me is the fact we have Thursday night football. I'll let the League run its self, but i do like a mid-week game... because I like the NFL.

I don’t think flexible Thursday games is the best option, but I would still watch it.

Been a history of mediocre teams/games, but last year IIRC there were a few good ones, but i dont care who's playing (except for the Packers) just give me some football.

A few players complain. Most keep to themselves. Goodell said many players tell them they enjoy the mini-bye after Thursday games. I doubt he's making that up. It makes some sense that they would enjoy the extra rest and time with family.

Its funny, Because you hear from the players from both sides... some dont mind it, some think it sucks. As a fan, I love it. Im also kinda opinionated towards this... If you make multi-millions playing a game, get over the 'inconveniences', suck it up, suit up and go make money. Its better (wayyyyy) than most of us common folk are used to. As a fan, I cant even imagine making $100K in a year let a lone multi-millions, never have, never will, but when you have a job in the NFL that might call for you to work a little extra hard even when your tired and sore, I dont wanna hear you whine.

Travis Kelce: “It hurts my soul” to lose Orlando Brown to the Bengals

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was not happy when left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. signed with the Bengals in free agency.

“It hurts. It hurts my soul, man. Hurts my soul. It’s like watching your best friend just turn evil on you,” Kelce said on his New Heights podcast, via the Kansas City Star.

Kelce doesn’t begrudge any player taking the best contract offer he gets, but said it’s especially difficult to see Brown go to the team the Chiefs have faced in the last two AFC Championship Games.

“It’s tough man. Obviously, I mean, the past like two years we’ve struggled beating the Bengals,” Kelce said. “So there’s been a lot of like build up in emotion of like, I would say, not necessarily hate but just like dislike towards the Bengals because they keep beating us, and they keep talking about it every time they do. So it’s like, man, to see him go to the dark side man, it’s an awkward feeling. Obviously I hope that he has an absolute Hall of Fame career. You know what I mean? I wish nothing but the best for OB. He was an unbelievable leader. An unbelievable teammate on and off the field.”

As long as the Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes, their offense is in good shape. But Kelce knows that Brown is a player the Chiefs’ offense will miss — and a player the Chiefs’ defense has to be prepared to face.

Reminds me of a story i just read a few days ago. Willie and Snoop got together and that old man Willie, by far, could and did out-smoke Snoop (pot of-course) and Snoop is not a lite-weight. Thats crazy shit right there.

Pot sure has gotten better since I smoked it daily (for decades and decades). Last time I tooted a joint, I thought I was on acid, that shit stoned me for hours. Couldnt even jam my guitar as I was at my drummers house. We had a good session, took a break and burned one. After that I sat and stared at the basement walls and giggled from time to time while swigging a bottle of Jack. One of the best times I ever had and I didnt do a damn thing for about 3 hours, lol. Sometimes nothing is everything.

To be honest, I dont think ive smoked any weed since then (something must be wrong with me)... I am stupid & crazy enough with out drugs!

The weed back in the day was better even though it wasn’t stronger in THC content. I remember smoking a joint with about 3 other people and we had to stop at a magic market and laugh at the people going in and out of the store for about an hour.
