I dont understand the QB size concerns year after year... To me it really doesnt matter, or am I wrong? Bryce Young this year is getting the scrutiny. If you look at the stats , record and performance, he did the job well and did it behind a huge offensive line against 'normal sized' defenses. So why is the size important or even considered? Im baffled.

It matters to a point. Regardless of your size you can either play or you can't. Being too small can be a hindrance. Having passes batted down and so on. But plenty of guys have been good in spite of being "undersized".

It definitely gets too much focus.

Both of his parents were born in Nigeria. They moved here and he and his 3 younger brothers were born in St. Louis... He was on Sirius NFL last night on my way home from work. Very interesting guy.

It matters less if you have elite athleticism, and having a stout frame to go with it is a big plus.

Young has neither, so his size is a greater concern than it was for Kyler Murray.

If he is closer to 5'10" and playing around 188 (what some rumors had him at for last season), then it's a red flag that can't be ignored, and no rebuilding franchise should consider him as the top passer on their board, IMO.

He likely weighs in at near 200 at the combine, but if it's just inflated weight...

Thanks for the explanation... it makes sense. Another thing i was thinking just now is the ability to take hits and a pounding all season long. If a smaller QB doesnt have the athleticism or physical attributes to escape 'harms way', he's toast. I can see now, that at todays QB pay rates, I wanna guy with not just an arm, but the ability to stay healthy and avoid being a pancake.

Tim, you asked me about who my top QB would be, among a bunch of other questions, and between the baby, work, and buying a house, I haven't had time to put together a comprehensive response. But it's been on my mind, and I've been watching film on a few of the top guys, even though QB isn't a Chicago need.

I'll answer more comprehensively when I have the time, but for now: Young is my 1A, and Stroud is my 1B. Everyone else is a distant third or fourth at best. Now, that's not to say that a guy like the kid from UF can't evolve at the next level, but if I'm just evaluating who they are now, it's those two guys by a country mile.

Young plays the game with NFL-level anticipation and touch. I get why his size is concerning, but I might invest in the OL in front of him and know that I've got the most talented passer in the draft by far. Stroud is good, don't get me wrong, but if Young were bigger, there wouldn't be a word about Stroud going first.

I'm curious to see what team falls in love with which guy. But the film shows me that Young can run a quick-strike NFL offense today, and it doesn't matter how small you are if the ball is out of your hand on time. I'd have a hard time passing on him.

Smell Diaper Jr. Has 4 TE’s going in rd 1 in his latest mockery. Don’t be shocked if John Lynch doesn’t draft Van Ness or Campbell and make his D even scarier.

Anthony Richardson posts best broad jump, vertical jump for a QB in Combine history

Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson calls himself a blend of Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson. He may be a better athlete than either of them.

Richardson posted a 10-foot, 9-inch broad jump and a 40.5-inch vertical jump today at the Scouting Combine. Those are both all-time records for a quarterback at the Combine.

And that’s a quarterback who weighed in at 244 pounds. Richardson is clearly an elite athlete at the quarterback position, or any other position.

Richardson is one of the most intriguing prospects in this year’s NFL draft, and his Combine performance is cementing his status as a quarterback that several teams will want in the first round.

Daniel Jeremiah on C.J. Stroud's showing: 'One of the best throwing sessions I've seen at the combine'

INDIANAPOLIS -- C.J. Stroud didn't take part in the athletic testing on Saturday, but that didn't stop the Ohio State quarterback from making a grand impression doing what he does best: slinging the football.

NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah waxed poetic about Stroud throughout his throwing session in Indianapolis, saying during the broadcast: "You couldn't script a better day for him throwing the football."

And DJ doubled down on Twitter:

Natural arm talent is Stroud's forte, as he routinely showcased during his two seasons as Ohio State's starting quarterback, completing nearly 70 percent of his throws for 8,123 yards and 85 touchdowns against just 12 interceptions. Leading the Buckeyes to a 22-4 record, Stroud was a back-to-back Heisman Trophy finalist and two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.

Jeremiah, who came into the combine with Stroud ranked as his No. 2 quarterback and No. 8 overall player in this draft class, couldn't get enough of the passer's effortless precision to all areas of the field at Lucas Oil Stadium.

"Every throw he's had to make, he's made it -- and it's been unbelievably smooth and easy," Jeremiah said.

There's no question Stroud has a special arm, but how about his other limbs?

One of the knocks on Stroud's game is a reluctance to use his legs. Over the past two seasons, he totaled just 88 rushing yards and one score on 79 totes. (Unlike the NFL, the NCAA counts sacks against a quarterback's rushing yards, adding some extra context to those underwhelming figures.)

However, Stroud challenged the scouting narrative against him in his final game for Ohio State, displaying excellent functional mobility and playmaking ability during a narrow College Football Playoff loss to eventual national champion Georgia. He shredded the Bulldogs for 348 yards and four touchdowns through the air, while also adding 34 yards on the ground.

So, was that last impression on the college gridiron a sign of things to come? Stroud indicated during his combine podium session Friday that he'd show off everything teams need to see at Ohio State's pro day on March 22.

"That's something that I'll show at my pro day -- I'll show my athleticism, I'll show my ability to escape pressure," Stroud said. "I've done it before on film, but since people don't think I can do it, I'm gonna do it again."

I took my scarlet and gray glasses off and I still see Stroud as the top QB, period.

I have the same bias, but have also been adamantly saying he is the top QB prospect in this draft class. Worthy of the #1 overall pick… which can’t always be said of the top QB prospect.

If QB doesn’t go 1-2 in the draft it will be because Bryce dropped out of the top 2, not CJ.

Stroud has the highest floor and the lowest ceiling of the 4 QBs.

we will agree to disagree on the ceiling here. He has the most accurate skill set of all QBs in this draft, how can his ceiling be lower, because he doesn’t run the ball?

A small part of that is lack of willingness to run, yes,. I'm not sure if its the OSU system or him, he plays well in structure. I just see the other 3 QBs as more of a creator type. I don't value accuracy as high as you. Poor footwork accuracy can be fixed.

Ditto on the Buckeye bias, but it is what it is. CJ was one of the top QB's in the nation in high school. He flourished at one of the top college football programs in the nation. And now he's ready for the next level. It's no surprise that he is in the position he's in. Nobody will argue that he wasn't surrounded by a shit ton of talent at Ohio State, and perhaps CJ wasn't forced to hit the tight window throws on a weekly basis. But that doesn't mean he can't, and it's nice to see him showcasing that arm at The Combine. Those who have followed him closely should have a good idea of the kind of arm talent he possesses. Yes, some things might have come easy for Stroud at Ohio State, but talent has a way of making things look easy too.

Though I don't think he'll be headed to Chicago, when it's all said and done, I believe CJ Stroud will be the #1 overall pick.
