Report: Texans told coaching candidates No. 2 overall pick would be used on quarterback If the Houston Texans use their top first-round pick on anything other than a quarterback, it will come as a surprise. According to D.J. Bien-Aime from ESPN, the Texans informed coaching candidates during their hiring process that they planned on using the No. 2 overall pick on a quarterback. Taking a quarterback at No. 2 overall kind of pigeonholes Houston and lets the rest of the league know what they plan to do. Being the next pick after No. 1 overall, especially when the Chicago Bears already have a presumptive franchise quarterback in Justin Fields, almost guarantees the Texans get their preferred signal caller. However, the Indianapolis Colts could be one of the teams that disrupts Houston’s plans if they successfully execute a trade with the Bears for No. 1 overall. If the Colts take a quarterback the Texans like, such as Alabama’s Bryce Young, Houston would have to pivot to another signal caller such as Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Kentucky’s Will Levis, or potentially even Florida’s Anthony Richardson. As is the case with the play on the field, the plans are already known by the opposition; it comes down to the execution. The draft process is long and the meandering path will reveal just how Houston lands their quarterback at No. 2 overall — or sooner. YAHOO SPORTS

QBs C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson to throw at 2023 NFL Scouting Combine; Bryce Young waiting for pro day What each top quarterback prospect will be doing at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine became clearer on Monday morning. Ohio State's C.J. Stroud, Florida's Anthony Richardson and Kentucky's Will Levis will throw at the combine while Bryce Young will wait to throw at his Alabama pro day, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday morning, per sources. Rapoport adds that although Young is long past his AC joint injury from the 2022 season, the 21-year-old will only be doing interviews in Indianapolis this week. Richardson plans to partake in all testing and drills in addition to throwing, per Pelissero. The throwing sessions for QB prospects are scheduled for Saturday, March 4. Stroud finished second in the nation in passing touchdowns (41), with 3,688 yards and six interceptions. In the College Football Semifinal against the Georgia Bulldogs, Stroud threw for four touchdowns and rushed for 34 yards in the loss. Richardson completed his sophomore season with the Gators throwing for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Richardson opted not to play in Florida's Las Vegas Bowl game versus Oregon State in order to prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft. NFL Network will have more than 50 hours of live coverage from Lucas Oil Stadium for the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, beginning Thursday, March 2. Here's more NFL Scouting Combine news as prospects begin arriving on Monday: Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter will do interviews and his physical in Indianapolis but is electing to do his workout at UGA's pro day, per Rapoport. Texas Tech pass rusher Tyree Wilson (foot) is preparing to do the bench press at this week's combine, Pelissero reports, per a source. Wilson is progressing well in his recovery from a fractured foot and the bench press was the only event he could work on with a walking boot on, according to Pelissero. Wilson has since shed that walking boot and started ramping up workouts two weeks ago, but he plans to wait until his pro day to do drills and testing, per Pelissero. The 22-year-old attended this year's Senior Bowl, Pelissero adds, meeting with decision-makers from almost every team with top-10 picks. Ole Miss running back Zach Evans won't be participating in drills because of a minor hamstring strain, Pelissero reports, per source. The plan is to do everything at his pro day, per Pelissero. Boise State safety JL Skinner, projected as a Day 2 pick who was expected to perform well at the Scouting Combine, tore his pec in training Friday, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reports, per a source. Skinner will interview with teams this week but can't do any drills. His surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache next week, per Garafolo. LSU defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy, a projected Day 2 Draft pick, will run his 40 and do his broad and vertical jumps at his pro day instead of the Scouting Combine after tweaking his hamstring in training, Garafolo reports, per his agent. Boston College WR Zay Flowers added 13 pounds of muscle after completing his training at PER4ORM in South Florida, per Pelissero. UAB running back DeWayne McBride will not participate in any combine drills due to an injured hamstring he sustained recently while training, Pelissero reports, per a source. McBride is rehabbing and planning to do everything at his pro day on March 22. Texas running back Bijan Robinson plans to do all on-field drills and testing at this combine, Pelissero reports, per a source. Texas pro day is March 9, just three days after the combine, but Robinson wants to compete, Pelissero added. NFL.com
I wonder if those invited to the combine have to RSVP with whether or not they plan on doing drills? Do they invite others depending on that info to backfill?
Arrest warrant issued for Jalen Carter for reckless driving, racing A report earlier Wednesday indicated Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter was present at teammate’s fatal crash and misled police about it. Now, comes word from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department that it has issued an arrest warrant for Carter for reckless driving and racing. “As a result of the ongoing investigation into the January 15, 2023, fatal crash that occurred in the 900 block Barnett Shoals Road, the Athens Clarke-Country Police Department has secured arrest warrants for Jalen Carter, 21, for Reckless Driving and Racing,” the statement reads. “The investigation found that Chandler LeCroy, driver of the 2021 Ford Expedition, and Jalen Carter, driver of a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk, were operating their vehicles in a manner consistent with racing shortly after leaving the downtown Athens area at about 2:30 a.m. The evidence demonstrated that both vehicles switched between lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes of travel, overtook other motorists and drove at high rates of speed in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other. Evidence indicated that shortly before the crash the Expedition was traveling at about 104 mph. “The toxicology report indicated that LeCroy’s blood-alcohol concentration was .197 at the time of the crash. Investigators determined that alcohol impairment, racing, reckless driving and speed were significant contributing factors to the crash. The case will be given to the Solicitor General’s Office.” Carter, a top prospect in the 2023 draft class, was scheduled to speak to the media Wednesday morning but did not. Both charges are misdemeanors. Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock and LeCroy, a Georgia recruiting staffer, died in the single-car wreck. Another football staffer and another football player were injured. Police questioned Carter about whether he was racing the car driven by LeCroy, and Carter denied it. Carter received a citation in September for driving 89 mph in a 45 mph zone. PFT
I believe they do, but just conjecture on my part from ive been able to read. The Combine info is vague in that area, but of a large majority of invites, they have said through media that they will or will not do the drills. Best answer I could find to this question is no. Seems as if the committee invited 319 prospects and if someone ops put or misses for some reason their spot will not be replaced. Once again, vague data out there on your two interesting questions. Im sure if someone on this site hears or knows differently, they will provide an answer.

Like the work, and give it an A+ grade. I think you may be one passer short in the top 10, but Levis hits 11 so that would be me just nitpicking like a dick. 2 running backs in the first would look a little more odd if this draft class wasn't a bit on the weak side, IMO. So, again, just me acting like an ass... Same goes for the 3 TEs in the first. Weak class, maybe happens, yada yada, "Tim's nitpicking again..." It definitely can happen though, but you have to go back 20 years (2002) since 3 went in the first. I'm sure some of the names you have will get shuffled around, so I'm looking forward to your post-combine iteration. Do you have some thoughts on why you decided to put certain players in certain situations that the locals here may find interesting?
Im thinking QB goes in this spot for the Seahawks, but none the less you have a solid pick there. Perfect in my opinion... Thats what the Lions need to do. I find this interesting. Its a perfect positional need, but does it top going QB? I personally love this pick and position. The entire draft world has the Vikings going CB and Ive been preaching that CB is a pretty deep position this year, so why not address that later in the draft as there are more bodies to go around and certainly a good one could be had. WR or DL/Edge for the Vikings in my world. Another good pick, Cowboys will be hoping a WR of his caliber is still there at #26. Just a few comments from a guy who will be the first to admit, I dont know my butt from a hole in the ground on a lot of this stuff.
I also have to post this Dan Campbel quote about the combine... I like this guy a lot. “I guess there is somewhat of a spectacle,” Campbell said. “To me it’s more, at this point, just to be able to sit with these guys. They get the medical during the week, but for us to be able to do these interviews is to me the biggest part of all this. It’s not even the working out portion. To me, you grade them off the tape, you don’t grade off somebody out here in pajamas, running the 40 with no defender around.” I think the combine is more than that, but his attitude is interesting.

Do you guys think Jalen Carter will come off a lot of teams radar with this current arrest thing going on?
I’ve seen reports that say he wasn’t even driving when this happened. I’m tired of all the guessing. I’ll just see how it plays out. I wouldn’t be shocked, if there’s no alcohol involved, if he still goes top 4 even if he was driving. Stupid still, sure. But not overly malicious
If it turns out to be true that he lied to the police when initially questioned, i think some(many?) teams will have a big problem with that. Possibly bigger even than the actual driving. As a fan of arguably the biggest linked team to him re the draft my interest in Carter continues to drop.
