This will probably be the team I pay the most attention to as the off-season begins to ramp up. I'll be posting a list of my preferred options for the coaching staff and potential personnel moves. Anyone that wants to chime in, feel free.
Well. They certainly have the draft stock. Five picks in rounds 1-3. Overall picks 2 and 12. I'm hearing Bryce Young is the pick.
For the head coaching candidates, my preferred options are (alphabetical order): Brian Johnson (QBC Philadelphia Eagles) Mike Kafka (OC New York Giants) Greg Roman (OC Baltimore Ravens) Duce Staley (AHC Detroit Lions) The coaching staff I'm looking to put together will be geared around implementing the offensive and defensive philosophies that I will be building the personnel groups around. Greg Roman was in contention, but I decided to go with a younger staff that the culture in Houston could grow around, and grow with, along with the potential for a more flexible mindset. Roman displayed a lot of forward thinking in how he put together the Ravens offense initially, but it feels like it's getting bogged down in its own methodology. HC: Mike Kafka AHC: Kris Richard (CDC/DBC New Orleans Saints) Offense: OC: Mike Shanahan (OC James Madison) QBC: Corey Dennis(QBC Ohio State) WRC: Cortez Hankton (PGC/WRC LSU) OLC: Sherrone Moore (COC/OLC Michigan) RBC: Dell McGee (RGC/RBC Georgia) TEC: John Baker (COC/TEC Ole Miss) Defense: DC: Marquand Manuel (SC New York Jets) LB/ADC: Jon Sumrall (HC Troy) DL: Landius Wilkerson (DLC South Alabama) CB: Darcel McBath (CBC Mississippi State) S: TJ Rushing (DBC Texas A&M) An obvious point of contention would be that Kafka has no head coaching experience. Understandable, but I'm looking to mold the staff into what I want, not bring in someone with a ton of preconceived notions on how they want things to be.
Cuts/Trades: LB - Jeremy Reeves-Maybin DL - Mario Addison DB - Eric Murray OL - Justin Britt OL - AJ Cann QB: Davis Mills
UFA Signings (under reasonable terms): QB - Drew Lock WR - Miles Boykin WR - N'Keal Harry OL - Mike McGlinchey (willing to match market) S - Jonathan Owens S - Donovan Wilson LB - Sione Takitaki LB - Marcus Allen EDGE - Anthony Barr EDGE/LB - EJ Speed
Agreed on this. He's not panning out. Way too many INT's and a lousy QBR... they could and need to get much better at that position... find someone to build around. Very much in need of a true QB and they need to nail that in the Draft. Said; Captain Obvious.
I’ll be throwing some more on this thread this weekend. They did interview Kafka, so it would be interesting if they hired him.
Kafka is very Interesting, I agree. When he worked with Mahomes in KC, you'd think, well , its Mahomes, he'd make anyone look good, but what he did in New York working with Daniel Jones was most impressive.
Looks like Demeco Ryans is in the mix as well for HC... It looks promising for him according to some reports, but thats just conjecture at this point.
Got some thoughts on how I want to shake up the defense. Dealing with Trevor Lawrence for the next decade+ is going to be a nightmare...
Have to wonder why would Ryans want to go to Houston. Yes they've got plenty of upcoming draft picks but ownership is joke. Its not a good spot, there are unquestionably better. I would put Denver as a better spot but not a great one. Did the Panthers not request an interview? Have the Colts? Ryans has been patient and now put himself in a great position to get not just any HC job, but a good one. His stock is sky high. I havent followed it closely but just find it very odd which teams i've seen him linked to and which i haven't.
Best I can see is, Ryans cancelled interviews with these teams because of the upcoming game against the Eagles. Colts were one of them.
Didnt know that. But cancelled with the Colts rather than the Texans/Broncos? So in effect prioritising those teams over the Colts who for all he knew might hire a HC before he gets to interview with them? Still pretty odd to me.
honestly I haven’t had time to do a proper evaluation yet. I was just looking at your Corey Davis hire.. reading into it.
I'm looking at development, but I can see how that would be inferred. It's the same line of thinking that your Ohio State fandom likely has CJ on a pretty hard to reach perch.
