Oh and Donatell got to go he just stuck with this damn shell defense Giants went up and down the field at will no adjustments was just mind blowing to me
Kevin O’Connell declines to say if Ed Donatell will return as Vikings’ defensive coordinator Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell isn’t saying if Ed Donatell will return as defensive coordinator for the 2023 season. O’Connell was asked today if Donatell will be back and didn’t answer, instead saying that right now he’s in “evaluation mode” with both his players and his assistant coaches, and that the evaluation will be “ongoing” this week. The 65-year-old Donatell is a longtime NFL defensive coordinator who just finished his first year on the job in Minnesota, and the results weren’t good. The Vikings won the NFC North, but they did so in a season in which their defense took a step backward, and in the playoff loss to the Giants, the Vikings had no answer for Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. Any coordinator whose head coach declines to commit to him is on the hot seat, but at this point O’Connell isn’t saying Donatell is done, just that the decision has not yet been made. PFT
Vikings have had preliminary contract negotiations with Justin Jefferson Receiver Justin Jefferson has made the Pro Bowl all three seasons since the Vikings drafted him in the first round. He made All-Pro this season and is among the favorites for offensive player of the year. Jefferson also now is eligible for a (BIG) contract extension. Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said Wednesday the team has started contract negotiations with Jefferson. “I wouldn’t use the word challenge,” Adofo-Mensah said, via NFL Media. “You got a special player, a special person. Those aren’t problems, or at least those are ‘champagne problems.’ We’ll start there. “Yeah, we’ve had initial dialogue with him, his agent, all those things. We can factor that into the planning, but again it really starts from the player, the person, and we’ll work out solutions from there on.” Jefferson is under contract for 2023 for $2.399 million, and the Vikings will pick up his fifth-year option for 2024 this spring. Both sides likely would prefer to do a deal sooner than later. Jefferson, the league’s best receiver in 2022, will become the league’s highest-paid receiver when he gets an extension. Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill currently is the league’s highest-paid at the position, having signed a four-year, $120 million extension in March that includes $72.2 million guaranteed. PFT
Id like to see the Vikings return to a base 4-3 defense. They really never pressured the QB, Jones at all in the Playoffs. They were towards the bottom in blitzing and QB sacks... Im not liking that at all.
The Vikings have fired defensive coordinator Ed Donatell. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell announced the move today, a day after declining to answer whether Donatell would return. “Today I informed Ed Donatell we will be going in a different direction at defensive coordinator in 2023,” O’Connell said in a statement. “While this was a difficult decision because of the tremendous respect I have for Ed as a person and coach, I believe it is the right move for the future of our football team. I want to thank Ed for his commitment to the vikings this past season, for the positive impact he had on our players and coaches and for his role in helping me as a first-year head coach lay this foundation.” The 65-year-old Donatell is a longtime NFL defensive coordinator who will surely have offers if he wants to join another coaching staff, but his one year in Minnesota ended up with a disappointing playoff loss and a pink slip. And he should not be surprised by this Ed Donatell at times I wondered was he playing to lose seemed like it àt times,i want the next DC to have an aggressive mindset had enough of bend don't break defense anyway have a good draft and GO VIKINGS
Vikings will have to decide whether to stick with 3-4 or revert to 4-3 When Kevin O’Connell became Minnesota’s new coach last year, he explained that the defense would pivot from decades of a base defense with a four-man front to a 3-4 look. With defensive coordinator Ed Donatell now gone, the question becomes whether the Vikings will stick with the 3-4 or revert to a 4-3? The candidates who are interviewed for the job will shed considerable light on the matter. Maybe O’Connell will consider coaches who are schooled in either approach. The decision will drive personnel moves in the offseason. The Vikings were in the process of acquiring the right players for Donatell’s defense, most notably adding inside linebacker Jordan Hicks and saying farewell to outside linebacker Anthony Barr. In hiring Donatell, O’Connell was hoping for Vic Fangio’s defense. O’Connell could (and perhaps should) try to hire Fangio, if the goal was (and still is) to simulate Fangio’s defense. Whatever O’Connell does, the defense must improve in 2023. If it had been just a little bit better in 2023, the Vikings wouldn’t have been in so many close games. The offense is good enough to take the team to where it wants to go. The defense held it back in 2022. Absent real improvement, next year could be yet another season of hoping that “just good enough” is good enough for the fans. PFT
I am so tired of this good enough crap the million dollar question is are the Wilfs satisfied with the state of affairs concerning the Vikings
Does Justin Jefferson want to leave the Vikings? these guys better get there shit together. cause I'm getting very tired of the heartbreak I'm looking at the ownership here from Justin Jefferson point of view he wants to win not this running it back whatever the hell that was does the ownership REALLY want an elite team I'm starting to wonder
Patrick Peterson hopes to remain with Vikings in 2023 Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson is set to become a free agent in March, but his hope is that he’ll remain in Minnesota. Peterson said on his podcast, All Things Covered, that Minnesota, where he has played the last two seasons after playing his first 10 seasons in Arizona, has come to feel like home. “I would love to be there in that purple and gold again and give it a run again just because I love the community there,” Peterson said, via Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “I love the organization. I love the new regime that [the Wilf ownership group has] brought into that building, the trainers, the strength and conditioning staff. It’s just amazing. I truly believe it felt like home for me. I felt like it was a place that I belonged. But we all know it’s a business.” Peterson, who will turn 33 in July, is the oldest starting cornerback in the NFL. But after starting all 17 games in the regular season as well as the Vikings’ playoff game, he’s healthy and ready to go for another year. PFT
Just something I saw on a Google Website most likely it was just click bait let's hope that all it was it's that time of the year where you have nothing but wild azz rumors
He should be #1goal and get the man some help somebody else to worry about enough of this having 2 or 3 or this mugging down field
lol. Exactly. Can you imagine them having a WR2 comparable to Jefferson? Wow, wouldnt that be nice. I do like Thielen, but another weapon would be nice.
Steelers linebackers coach Brian Flores’ name has come up in conjunction with a number of jobs since the end of the regular season and we can add Vikings defensive coordinator to the list. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Vikings have requested an interview with Flores as part of their search for a new defensive coordinator. The Vikings fired Ed Donatell this week. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell spent the 2008 season with the Patriots and Flores was a special teams assistant with the team that year. Flores has interviewed with the Browns and Falcons as part of their defensive coordinator searches, although he won’t be going to Cleveland as the Browns have hired Jim Schwartz. The Cardinals have also requested an interview with Flores for their head coaching vacancy. PFT
The Vikings lost Kyle Hinton to the Falcons what a waste he never got no playing time he could have replaced Ed Ingram cause if he wasn't stepping on Capt Kirk foot or ĵust being out of place they never put in him never really got a chance maybe with the Falcons he will
I just saw this now it's the Cousins Curse why Buffalo Bills and Cowboys lost WTF the Cowboys lost because Dak couldn't keep his shit together, the Bills lost because the Bengals are a better team and Josh Allen needs to quit trying to be the Bills run game its really pitiful are they trying to blame there failure on the so called Cousins Curse this is so dumb I don't believe it
