The Falcons traded for CB help this week, but the new guy is too new so they're still starting both of the backup scrubs in place of the injured Casey Hayward and A.J. Terrell. Justin Herbert picked on them in key spots to get the first Chargers touchdown. It was brutal to watch them repeatedly convert third and long situations all the way down the field. I can't emphasize enough how critical this injury situation at CB has become for Atlanta. They gave up 798 passing yards in two games with this pair of backup youngsters, dropping Atlanta to dead last in pass defense. I get it that you want to get the developing youngsters some game experience, but there has to be a better way.
And... Chargers 14-10. Left guard Elijah Wilkinson is out with a knee injury (and was put on IR yesterday). His replacement is one of the three starters from last year who were ranked in the bottom 10 linemen in the league for pass protection. Sure enough, he got utterly demolished on a third down play, gave up the sack, and Justin Herbert went right back to work on the prospect corners for the go-ahead touchdown drive. This young secondary is really bad for my blood pressure.
Matt Hennessy (the replacement for Elijah Wilkinson) injured his ankle in the third quarter, replaced by Colby Gossett. I'm hoping for the best for Hennessy, but I almost certainly would have started Gossett in the first place. This might be an upgrade for Atlanta's line heading into the fourth quarter of yet another nail-biter game.
Joe Mixon up to five touchdowns Joe Mixon picked up where he left off in the second half of Sunday’s game. Mixon ran for a touchdown on the first Bengals possession of the third quarter after scoring four times during the first half of the game. It’s Mixon’s fourth rushing touchdown and it leaves Mixon one short of the NFL record for touchdowns by a single player in a single game. Alvin Kamara, Ernie Nevers, Dub Jones, and Gale Sayers hold the record with six touchdowns in a game. Mixon has 19 carries for 143 yards and four catches for 58 yards overall. The Bengals lead the Panthers 42-7 with just under five minutes to play in the third quarter. PFT
And in a truly SHOCKING turn of events, the scrub practice squad CB gets torched at the line of scrimmage to give up the 23-yard pass to set up the winning field goal for the Chargers. Gosh... who would have ever guessed that a second year mid-rounder and a practice squad guy would struggle as starting cornerbacks for the third week in a row?
This one pisses me off because the coaches should have known better. Nickel corner Isaiah Oliver or backup nickel Dee Alford playing outside would have been better options than the practice squad guy.
Falcons did this week what the Panthers did last week. They had it in hand and literally gave it away twice. The big one is that the Chargers were already in field goal range for the winning kick but fumbled. The Falcons defensive lineman that picked up the ball and ran with it then fumbled it himself 24 yards downfield and the Chargers got it back. It only took one play to get back into field goal range. But to me the bigger picture is that every L.A. scoring drive had Atlanta's #22 and #34 as featured players in the highlight reel. And in five days these two go up against Carolina again. The Panthers humiliated them all game long just seven days ago. It's not like they're magically going to become Deion Sanders and Darrelle Revis in 12 days.
I just love the Aaron Rodgers press conferences the look on his face is like why is this happening to me this so funny to me,he looks so defeated it's priceless after years of seeing that stupid azz grin and his dumb azz comments this guy is so disrespectful of others couldn't happen to a better person
Sunday Night Football: Patrick Mahomes leads Chiefs to comeback overtime victory over Titans Patrick Mahomes passed for 446 yards and ran for 63. The Chiefs needed every one of those against an unrelenting Titans team. Mahomes directed his 11th career game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime as the Chiefs beat the Titans 20-17 in overtime. The Chiefs improved to 6-2, and the Titans fell to 5-3. The Chiefs won the coin toss in overtime and went 64 yards in 13 plays. They went for it on fourth-and-one at the Tennessee 13, and Mahomes completed a 2-yard pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster. Three consecutive incompletions, though, led to a Harrison Butker field goal anyway. Butker, who missed an extra point and a 47-yard field goal earlier in the night, was good from 28 yards. The Titans had a chance to answer, but Derrick Henry picked up 1 yard before rookie Malik Willis took back-to-back sacks. Khalen Saunders sacked Willis for a 12-yard loss, and Chris Jones and Carlos Dunlap split a 5-yard sack of Willis for the Chiefs’ only sacks of the game. Willis’ fourth-and-26 attempt had no prayer. Without Ryan Tannehill, who missed the game with an ankle injury, the Titans had no passing game. Willis completed only 5 of 16 passes for 80 yards. More than half of that came on the team’s first play from scrimmage when Chigoziem Okonkwo broke several tackles at the line of scrimmage and broke free for a 48-yard catch-and-run. The Titans had 22 total yards of offense in the second half and overtime combined. The Chiefs had no running game, except when Mahomes ran it. He ran for a 14-yard touchdown with 2:56 remaining in the fourth quarter to draw the Chiefs to within 17-15. The Chiefs had three attempts at the two-point conversion after offsetting penalties was followed by a defensive holding penalty on Joshua Kalu, who held Travis Kelce. On the third try, Mahomes ran it in to tie the game. The Chiefs then had a chance to win it in regulation. They went for it on fourth-and-inches from their own 45 with 1:00 remaining, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire picked it up with a 2-yard run. But Mahomes threw three consecutive incompletions, forcing a punt and giving the ball back to the Titans with 35 seconds left. The Titans threw three incompletions and punted it back to Kansas City, which had an incompletion and a 33-yard catch-and-run by Mecole Hardman to the Tennessee 27 as time expired. The Chiefs scored only nine points through three quarters, the fewest they had scored since Week 7 against Tennessee last season. The Chiefs lost that game 27-3. On Sunday night, the Chiefs scored on their first two drives. They took the opening kickoff and drove 69 yards in 15 plays before stalling at the Tennessee 5. Kansas City settled for a chip-shot, 23-yard field goal by Butker. They made it 9-0 on Hardman’s 7-yard catch-and-run on the first play of the second quarter, but Butker missed the extra point. The Chiefs then failed to score on seven consecutive possessions. They had five punts, an interception and a missed Butker field goal. It was first time since 2018 against the Colts that the Chiefs had gone seven consecutive drives without scoring a point. But the Chiefs scored the final 11 points to win it. The Titans had 48 plays. Mahomes had 68 pass attempts, tying for the third most in NFL history in a single game behind only Drew Bledsoe (70) and Vinny Testaverde (69). PFT
No way did I see them as a 3-6 football team. I knew they wouldnt be the same with out DeVante Adams, but they are a mess and Im lovin it.
Im wondering if they could actually even trade Rodgers now, he's been off big time... and the poor attitude isnt going to help either. Probably should have retired. Packers at the moment are working on a high draft pick... I hope they screw that up too, but there is a lotta football left to be played, but they look terrible right now.
Tyler Conklin: We aren’t the same old Jets The Jets were coming off a dismal loss to the Patriots and the Bills were 6-1, so there wasn’t any surprise to see that Buffalo were heavy favorites at MetLife Stadium for Sunday’s game. The result of the game was a big surprise, however. The Jets defense smothered the Bills offense and quarterback Zach Wilson piloted a 13-play drive for the game-winning field goal in a 20-17 Jets victory that went down as the most shocking result of Week Nine. It was the sixth win of the season for the Jets, so it probably shouldn’t have come as such a shock and tight end Tyler Conklin sent a message to those who are still feeling stunned by the Jets’ success this year. “Everybody outside of this locker room didn’t think we had a chance, but it’s been the same story all season for us,” Conklin said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. “Everybody kind of thinks it’s going to be the same old Jets, right? Last week was, ‘Oh, the same old Jets.’ . . . Guess what? We’re not the same old Jets.” The Jets have a bye in Week 10 and then return for a road game in New England in Week 10. If they can get a win there, it will be time for everyone in the league to retire the same old Jets label once and for all. PFT
