Again, I think Poles has lost the value game here. Claypool is not good enough to warrant that selection in trade. That's a pick that you use to draft a first round talent that fell. A starting OL, a dynamic WR... not a WR that another team feels is disposable. I haven't been watching football in general this year, so I haven't watched him play this year. But by all accounts, he has been underwhelming. Yes, the offense, yes his QB, but wouldn't those things make him worth less? Feels like a very Bears move here, overpaying for a guy. I would've been okay with a third. The Ravens' second would've felt like a bit of an overpay. But the Bears' second? That's not a move I'm happy with.
Yeah. This hurts me. It really feels like a very Bears week. Trade away someone good, give up too much for someone who might not earn a roster spot in the near future... That early second round pick is a big value.
The Steelers might have gotten over on this one. It is reported that he was a locker room distraction and they wanted him gone.
You know, I really hope this isn't the case, that we overbid to fuck over the Packers, because traditionally this has not worked out in our favor. Spite buys never work. The only thing I disagree with here, he's only on his third year right? So you've got all of the next year before we have to decide whether or not to pay him, this year we just have to know whether or not to pick up the 5th year option. I agree here, I was on the fence with the Ravens pick as it's maybe an overpay but we do need WR help, etc. With the Bears pick I like it a lot less. Still not sure I hate it as much as both you, but I definitely don't love it.
Yep, i could've lived with that. It would mean you still have 3picks in the top60 and you can do a lot with that. The Bears are now gonna be left with 1 pick in the top 50-55ish. Its a big difference.
Surprised someone gave a second anything less and I would have rather seen him stay but for a second I'm good. Lots of holes to fix before this team is a contender
I'm gonna go drink. It's a hard to be a fan of this team. I know, this could turn out great for the Bears if Claypool and Fields fit. But I, personally, don't think this is a good move. So I'm bummed out.
The Shame pick is really the only example of this and that was 10 years ago. This is absolutely not a "spite" trade. It just has the added bonus of fucking Erin over.
Claypool had better work out or this will be an enormous blunder by Poles. Everton I think he is going to blend well with Fields.....CC has potential.
Good call, but he's still under contract through next year, so we have a year and a half to see what he's got before we have to sign him. Unless you're saying he will sit out the final year of his contract? This year is year 3, next year is year 4. Again, I don't love it, but WR is a massive need. Even the Ravens pick was high but at least more in the ballpark. And I also heard rumblings he was a bit of a headcase as well, so that's concerning. I guess we'll see what kind of impact he will have. Does this mean Poles is higher on Fields than we thought?
I get it, but really the decision has to be made before they hit their final year. Then they're playing for FA and you have bidding war potential. In reality most teams either let them walk or use the tag which is another sub-optimal outcome. To have any leverage in negotiations the Bears need to do it this offseason. Unless Claypool totally stinks in which case you don't resign but the GM owns a bad miss. I'm trying really hard to find a bright side here and that could be it. Hopefully Poles is signalling a commitment to Fields. But mostly im not sure and think im gonna get shitfaced instead.
And I also heard rumblings he was a bit of a headcase as well, so that's concerning. I guess we'll see what kind of impact he will have. Yes your correct VV.....he does have a temper and a flare for the Drama.....goes back to his days playing High School B-Ball at Abbotsford High.....but he has learned to control it and I think he is going to do well as a Chicago Bear.
To me he looks like a guy who can have big games now and then surrounded by games where he's nearly invisible. He hasnt been reliable to this point.
To me he looks like a guy who can have big games now and then surrounded by games where he's nearly invisible. He hasnt been reliable to this point. In his rookie year 2020.....he had 11 TD's....9 receiving and 2 rushing with Ben....great numbers for a rookie. But then like you say he went "invisible".........he loves the Limelight so I'm hoping Fields throw's him the ball and they blend. If he fails to "Catch" on it could be disaster for the Bears.
Sure, but if there's a bidding war that means he performed well, and the Bears, at this point will have the highest $$ by a wide margin coming up because they've done nothing but shed cap. Always the correct choice. It's an overpay, I think we can all agree. But the overpay doesn't matter if this kid ends up being good. And the WRs the Bears have been trotting out, are the exact opposite. Fields needed help for confidence, and evaluation, and they did that. And I'd think it was cheaper than it would have been before the season, so I don't know.
I don't think he is any higher or lower on him, but at some point he will need to try to find some clarity in this murky mess he created to better evaluate him.
Being a Bears fan I'm sitting here a bit puzzled, I mean To drink or not to drink, why should this ever be questioned?
