Holy shit. I called it yesterday! And apparently it's the Ravens 2nd that's being dealt, not ours. Win. Damn this is the most fun trade deadline I've ever lived through.
Poles giving Fields a chance to prove himself with a little more talent around him than he's had. Doesn't fix the o-line problems but this should help immediately. Basically we traded Roquan for Claypool and added a 5th round pick. Since Roquan was gone anyway, and Claypool still on the third year of his rookie deal, this was a good move for Poles.
So we just traded Roquan for Claypool and the Ravens 5th with some extra steps. Not sure how I feel about it just yet. I like giving Fields an actual receiver this year to learn with, and WR was a massive need, but he has had a down year, so I guess we can kick the tires to see if he can turn it around in our offense? I don't hate it, that's for sure.
Yeah, super odd because they definitely need the WR help if they want any chance at making some noise this year. I'm not sad to see the Packers stand pat.
I saw the Packers in the mix too. I think the Bears will really benefit here. Claypool was pretty solid with Ben and with Fields developing, it could be a great combo.
I like trying to get Fields help but a 2nd for this guy is steep. Its good to have a big bodied target but with this O-Line we need WRs who can win quick, that means good route runners. At times Claypool's route running looks flat out lazy. It had fucking better be the Ravens 2nd rounder. If Poles has just given up a 36-42 overall selection in the next draft he is a fucking mug.
Given how strongly the Packers were linked to Claypool im not sure the Ravens 2nd rounder would get the job done. Poles may have had to outbid to get over the line. Concerning.
Thank you Poles, for tacitly admitting just how much you fucked up your first draft. Pass over a 1st round talent like Pickens not once but TWICE, then draft a WR who cant catch, and now try to play catch up with a panic buy. Bollocks!
I probably need to put down the kool-aid but there's a lot of upside to Claypool. I like the trade. Could Poles have drafted a better WR than him with that pick next year? Maybe. Maybe not. At least Fields has another weapon for now.
It may not be a panic buy, but it is an absolute fleecing. Top40 pick for a guy who was on course for 660 receiving yards in a 17game season. Who has basically been on a downward trajectory since his rookie year. And someone who you are basically gonna have to decide if you want to pay this offseason. You don't drop a pick this big on a rental when you're a rebuilding team so in reality Poles is already halfway committed to paying him serious money. Claypool had better work out or this will be an enormous blunder by Poles.
