Do we want to consider offering one of the 2nds for Chase Claypool? We need a real weapon for Fields. I like Gesicki but not sure I want to give up on of our 4ths for him with so many other holes on o-line, d-line, WR. It is a fair question but I don't think its something Poles considers unless we end up with a top 5 pick, which I doubt happens. We'll probably be around 8-10 and most of the top QBs will be out of reach for Poles (and assuming Fields trade value is not enough to move into the top 3 or so).
Admittedly I have not watched the Steelers much this season and I see that Claypool's numbers are way down (though the Steelers QBs suck), so maybe hold off on my trade idea.
What team and deal do you think would be offered to Poles, if he were to shop him, that would make sense for the Bears? They have Trevor Siemian as a backup, there isn't even a bridge on the roster to get them to the next QB. Were you thinking before the deadline, or at the draft next year, or sometime next year? His value right now as to be pretty low, any team that would take a flier on him isn't going to offer much and we still need someone to play QB. I don't see any deal that allows it. I mean, someone like the Lions, who need a QB, would they trade the #1 overall to get Fields or just take their pick? And if it's below top 5, would any QB there not have just as many questions as Fields?
I was mostly joking. But also I don’t think it’s all that legit when Fields is actually starting to bear fruit and the GM has all the resources in the world this offseason to stack pieces around him. If there were a Andrew Luck type prospect in the draft this coming offseason I could see wanting to make that move. Not sure there is though. And even if there were it wouldn’t fit the approach Poles is currently taking.
We don't always get to see how much of a value shift there is between franchises/GMs on where they believe a player should be taken, but if you have one team that viewed Justin as the top passer in his class it changes the dynamic some. As the Steelers struggle with Pickett, we know for sure that several other teams did not view him as a solid bet at passer with a better than low first round value. Did all other 31 have the same type of grade? Possibly, so if at least one other team viewed Fields as highly as the Bears it opens up the possibility of getting a solid return on him pre-draft, especially if that team does not have one of the top 10 picks that would have a shot at the cream of the upcoming class. Prior to Justin being taken by Chicago, I stated the opinion that it was a shit scenario because of what I perceived the pick to equate to - A manipulation tactic to buy time for a coaching staff that should have been fired prior to having a chance to go after a passer. Now, with Chicago in a bit of a transition (again), it's fair to question just how far they want to take it.
Which is a fair take, and I'm not looking to argue it one way or the other with any conviction. I was simply interested in taking the temperature of the room when it comes to what limits Poles will go to with his roster management this year.
If you guys could get Bryce Young would you want him? The only thing I can see about him is he comes from an organization that has studs at every level just like fields at OSU. So you may get a QB again that’s overrated because of the talent levels around him.
This is pretty moot though. The bears have won too many games to be in a position to consider taking ‘an Andrew luck’ type prospect. You need to be top 2 for a guy like that. Not 7-13. Detroit, Houston, and Carolina will be in on ‘that guy.’ I’m with Ev here, and it’s a losing situation for us given this franchise and it’s hard on for defense. You need a center, guard, and a starting LT and a bench OT. You need multiple WRs. You’ll still have Kmet but all the 1 year deal back up TEs like Griffin and Tonges are gone and that depth needs replacing. I’d try to keep Tonges, St Brown, and this FB Blasengame. The 3 guys for FA I’m watching/hoping teams can’t afford to bring back are Da’Ron Payne, Jack Conklin, and Samson Ebukam. Commanders paid Allen big money for a DT and walk into the off-season with 5 mil in cap space. The browns and 49ers same cap wise, though Cleveland probably isn’t letting an all-pro OT walk away. 49ers have fucked themselves with future cap and need to pay Nick Bosa in another year, so i imagine Ebukam will be a casualty. So I have to move a literal mountain of flesh to find something you probably haven’t seen since…adolescence? Nah. Im good. Can’t wait to see what your next retarded bears hot take is—sorry—can’t wait for you to enlighten us with the temperature of the room.
You do know who you're fucking with, right? And I know you think this cunty nonsense you spout is something witty, but it really just shows the high levels of estrogen in your blood.
No worries, yeah i don't like a 2nd for Claypool either. A 5th for Gisecki seems an easy decision contract pending. I'd even do the later of our two 4ths.
Geez pat, chill a bit buddy. I think you may have gotten the wrong impression slightly here, you know Campbell is formerly Tim right? One thing for sure he is no troll. I didn't think much of the question myself but we can't have every post be our best. BTW Tim, there's been so much of our previous conversations i've wanted to pick up with you given recent developments, not least the Panthers/Matt Rhule, work has just been kicking my ass recently and its all i can do to make time for the Bears.
Does the Hockenson trade change anyone's mind about Roquan's? Also an 8th round pick, did have a big injury concern, they gave up two fourths along with him, to get a 2nd and then a following year 3rd. Poles gave up no draft capital at all and got two picks.
I'm not sure that Hockenson has achieved either the performance or health that Roquan has, but I take your point. I guess I just misunderstood the market.
Yeah, I agree Roquan was more a known/better commodity but it seems like the Lions gave up a bit more for Hockenson despite that. Meaning that trade is better looking in hindsight. Then again, you see the other thread where we trade away OUR second for Claypool, so who knows, heh.
