    Not bad for a headache.

You can't get a late first round pick out of a guy that played very well in a 3-4 and is just finishing his rookie deal? Especially at the deadline? Ehhhhh...

Whoa. Didn't see it coming. Like that Poles is in sell-mode.

I'll definitely take that compensation for a guy who wasn't gonna resign next year.

He's an off the ball LB in an era where ILBs are probably the least valuable pieces on a modern defense. Maybe I'm in the minority but I'm fine with what Poles got.

It’s a good deal all things considered. Yeah he’s good and you wanted a 1st, but he’s in the last year of his deal, wants 20+ mil a year and isn’t a LT, QB, WR or DE.

    He’s Baltimore's problem. Enjoy.

The ravens are definitely renting him. They have Lamar’s contract coming up to handcuff any chance to resign Smith.

I hear you, but it's a late second round pick. A second is one thing when you're picking guys who fell out of the first. When you're picking in the last 10 or so selections in the round (presuming their finish, of course), that's not great. For a guy who was a top 10 pick just a few years ago, this just feels like Poles misplaying this. Maybe no one else wanted him this season, given that they couldn't get longer term assurances, but then wouldn't you go into the offseason and franchise him and try to leverage that? Sure, it's a headache, but you give yourself a chance at more teams being at the table, if that's the issue here.

I don't know. Felt like, if you're moving him to a competing team as a deadline deal, you could squeeze more out of them for it. We see other GM's do it.

I am totally ok with this move, which maybe doesnt come as a surprise to you guys since i never liked the money grabbing lardass after his rookie holdout. But at most Noquan was on this team for 1 more year. Poles had correctly decided he wasn't worth $20mil per over 4-5years, so the most you were getting was a franchise tag and a whole heap of shit from the player all next offseason. He's not worth the trouble, hell during last nights game i wondered to myself if he was even worth a tag.

Personally i dont just like what Poles got for trade comp, i'm impressed. 2 draft picks inc a 2nd round in this situation? Yes please. That is some fine deal making.

Good luck getting your value out of this one Ravens.

Loving that list of draft picks blang buddy!

I'm pumped for 2023. All these picks plus $100+ million in cap space. If Fields gets his shit together we might actually be GOOD.

If they are renting him then its a fucking expensive rental. You don't pay out that much for a rental. He'll get paid.

To me, that's what a rebuild is about.

I get the feeling of always wanting a bit more out of a trade, but the Ravens weren't sending their 1st round pick for Noquan, no way no how. This isn't one of the dumb teams, the Ravens are a well run organization.

Maaaaybe the 5th could've been a 4th, but to me that feels like nit picking. I think Poles has done well.

Lamar Jackson has to get paid, no way they can afford what Smith wants.

The McCaffrey deal got a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and a 5th. Now, if we're arguing "great players at positions that aren't highly valued", I would think this comparison fits. Then you add that Roquan is younger and doesn't have the injury history, and I see those as plusses. He doesn't have contract guarantees going forward, I get that, but I imagine that you're trading for him assuming you're going to pay him enough to sign him.

Maybe the market just wasn't there, and maybe I'm nitpicking, but I feel like Roquan is a talented player and a valuable piece around the league, and that should have netted more. I know that we're all jaded over his antics (and man, does it feel GREAT to finally not have to worry about that), but his value as a player still feels higher to me.

That aside, they are doing what we knew they'd need to do with a scheme change on defense - completely clean house. Roquan, Quinn, and anyone else that isn't nailed down. This is what made everything that much harder, was the switch in schemes, but they're finally blowing it all up the way we kind of figured they'd need to. How they rebuild both the defense and the offense at the same time, while not getting Fields killed, feels like a huge challenge, but we'll see. First year of draft picks was underwhelming to me, so we'll see what he does with them next draft.

At what point do we consider the possibility of Poles moving Fields prior to the draft to go after ‘his’ guy?

Move him for what? The most that they could get is a fourth.

I think that's all going to come down to how the draft falls. Totally possible that Poles might want to do this, but the opportunity only exists if the draft falls your way. If the QB needy teams are all in position to get their guy, then you don't have anyone to trade to / no one to take. So I guess we'll see as we get closer.

If the Bears are bad enough, they might just have that pick anyway.

If you would have told in the offseason the Bears were trading Roquan....I would have been livid.

But based on his play this season....bye bye. Don't let the door hit you. I'll take the picks.

Nice to have a GM playing the long game for once.
