There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the stadium where the Falcons and Panthers will play. It is an arena which we call... ...the Twilight Zone.
49ers rule Deebo Samuel out 49ers General Manager John Lynch said on Friday morning that wide receiver Deebo Samuel is the kind of player that the team gives as much time as possible to show that he’s healthy enough to play, but they obviously don’t think there’s any benefit into taking a decision about this Sunday’s game against the Rams into the weekend. The 49ers ruled Samuel out after he missed his third straight practice with a hamstring injury. It will be the first game that Samuel has missed this season and his absence could set the stage for running back Christian McCaffrey to play a more sizable role in his second game with the team. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw (calf), fullback Kyle Juszczyk (finger), and defensive tackle Arik Armstead (foot, ankle) are also going to be out for the 49ers this weekend. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings (hamstring) and cornerback Jason Verrett (knee) are listed as questionable. PFT
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The first-place Atlanta Falcons will be missing most of their starting secondary when they host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The Falcons (3-4) ruled out safety Jaylinn Hawkins (concussion) and cornerback A.J. Terrell (hamstring) after they missed the entire week of practice. Both went down in last weekend's 35-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Falcons also are missing cornerback Casey Hayward, who sustained a shoulder injury the previous week against the 49ers. He was placed on IR and will miss at least three more games. Compounding Atlanta's issues in the secondary, backup cornerback Dee Alford is questionable for Sunday because of a hamstring issue that has limited him in practice. In the NFC South, where no team has a winning record, the Falcons moved into first place when Tampa Bay (3-5) lost to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night. One game behind the Falcons are Carolina and the New Orleans Saints, both at 2-5. AP
The Carolina-Atlanta game will be another good showcase for Panthers QB prospect P.J. Walker, who is getting his chance to show all 32 teams what he can do. I've always been big on him as a prospect, so I'm excited to see him in action this week even though he'll be playing for the opponent. He'll be up against a suddenly annihilated Falcons secondary. The article mentioned that Atlanta's defense was banged up, but it didn't explain that the injuries are stacking up specifically at defensive back. Short version = both starting corners and one starting safety are out while one of the main backup CBs is gimpy (listed as questionable). More than likely, a practice squad call-up who made his first actual game appearance in two years last weekend will now be STARTING at cornerback, while the other starter is a fourth rounder from last year's draft making his third career start. P.J. Walker should be able to feast on them. The most surreal thing about this weekend... suppose Walker does lead the Panthers to the win and that New Orleans is also able to beat the Raiders. If that happens, all four teams in the NFC NASCAR division will have identical 3-5 records.
Going to be very interesting/fun to see how the Falcons secondary does, because you know PJ is going to target them. Hopefully they step up to the challenge. Lots of good story-lines in this game.
It really should be a fun game to watch, even though both teams have losing records going in. And this one feels more like a true division rivalry than Panthers-Bucs or Falcons-Bucs. The two stadiums are only about 3.5 hours apart via I-85. There will be quite a few Panthers fans in the stands. I'm hoping the Atlanta coaches will unleash their own offense this week. Mariota is actually #7 in the league in yards per pass attempt (7.9) so far this season. And when they turn him loose and let him throw on first or second down, his 10.6 yards per attempt on those downs top the league. Let him roll out and throw it !! Another overlooked storyline from the Carolina side is that this will be a revenge game for D'Onta Foreman, who takes over a primary RB role with the McCaffrey trade and with Chuba Hubbard out. Foreman was with Atlanta for preseason last year and actually played very well, but the Falcons opted to keep Qadree Ollison instead. Foreman ended up with Tennessee for the later part of the season, did very well there, and landed a $2 million contract with Carolina this year. This will be his first game against Atlanta since his release.
DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett both expect to play The Seahawks appear to be in good shape at wide receiver. DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett both expect to play today against the Giants, according to multiple reports. That’s particularly good news for Metcalf after he was carted off the field with a knee injury a week ago. At the time, there were fears of a very significant injury, but he proved to have no major damage to the knee and looks good to go. Lockett has hamstring and rib injuries but was able to practice during the week. The 4-3 Seahawks are 3-point favorites over the 6-1 Giants in this week’s only matchup of two teams with winning records. PFT
I picked the Seahawks to win because they are getting healthy, Geno is playing well and they are at home, but the Giants will make it a good game... should be close.
Commanders accuse Colts owner Jim Irsay of continuing violations of NFL Constitution Colts owner Jim Irsay keeps talking about Commanders owner Daniel Snyder. On Saturday, Snyder’s team issued its strongest remarks yet in response to the latest comments from Irsay. “It’s unfortunate that Mr. Irsay continues to behave in a way that clearly is in violation of the Constitution of the NFL,” a Commanders spokesperson told the Washington Post in a statement issued on Saturday. “We look forward to playing his team on Sunday.” There’s actually some merit to the notion that Irsay could be violating the league’s Constitution & Bylaws. Article IX, Section 9.1(C)(4) prohibits any owner from “publicly criticizing[ing] any member club or its management, personnel, employees, or coaches and/or any football official employed by the League. All complaints or criticism in respect to the foregoing shall be made to the Commissioner only and shall not be publicized directly or indirectly.” In the past 11 days, Irsay has repeatedly raised publicly the question of whether the owners should consider removing Snyder, and Irsay has repeatedly complained publicly about the toxic workplace that was maintained under Snyder’s management of the team. And, yes, the Colts host the Commanders on Sunday. Don’t expect the Commanders to be posting any photos of the owners of the two teams hobnobbing on the field before kickoff. Every week we bring you all the inactives from the 1 p.m. ET games in one post, constantly updated with the latest information. The Raiders are going to be without tight end Darren Waller again this week. Waller missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury, but raised hopes he would return by taking part in practice all week as a limited participant. The team put him on their inactive list in New Orleans on Sunday, however, and he will miss his second straight game. The Raiders will have wide receiver Davante Adams, who missed two days of practice this week with an illness. The Saints will be missing wide receiver Jarvis Landry, cornerback Marshon Lattimore, and wide receiver Michael Thomas due to injuries. Dammm, Wilson from 1 yard deep in his own endzone just aired one to the JAX 33... nice arm, should have been caught too. Heard they were icing his shoulder between possessions, also.
TD, Latavius Murray, who, in my opinion, is an unsung hero. 21-17. Denver with a pick (Williams) on Lawrence with under 2 minutes to go... looking good for the Broncos.
