I wasn't able to watch the first half because my boy had hockey practice (trying out goalie this week, oof) and the fucking ice rink had the goddamn news on, but after halftime we got the game on the screen. First thing I see his Fields missing a pass and then fumbling a snap, but then I also saw some good. Honestly, watching that second half felt great, and I had to ask my buddy if the whole game was like that, some moments of great by Fields and some bumblefuckery by the offense, seems like it was. I told him, after how this season has gone, I will take that all day, because it's actually *progress* from the shitshow we've had.

And man, how about Kmet doing a hurry up and the Bears actually hurrying up, despite the fact that the catch was good? Puts the pressure on the other side, even if it was good. And we popped off like an 8 yard run right there?

Sure, there are plenty of areas that need improvement as always, but fuck you all, I like the positives we did see.

Oh and fuck Mustipher, I had to ask my buddy too what the fuck he was doing in the game, I have no idea how bad Patrick's injury is?

The greatest failure of the game against the Skins was that we were unable to build on the offensive momentum we had going in the 2nd half against the Vikings.

Now we are going to be facing the Cowboys who have the toughest defense we will have seen. Continue to be patient and run the ball. Continue to put Fields throwing on the move. Somehow hold Micah Parsons to only 3.5 sacks. It doesn't have to be a win, but we have to see the same offensive game plan and execution that we saw last night.

I totally agree with this blang.
I think at this point it's more important to see some progress all over the board rather than a winning score. Getting both would be awesome but I'd rather see a team that is learning to work together and to actually show some effort like last night. I think it can be done.

And I apologize for my consistent inane questions and chatter on the thread last night. I have only seen a handful of Bears games in my life and last night had me almost overwhelmed. I gotta work on that. Get tough and cynical like the rest of you dudes. :)

You should never apologize for asking questions, and CERTAINLY not for enjoying a Bears win. It's better, not being jaded like us old fucks.

Thanks dline. I appreciate that. I mean I could have been in the kitchen getting drinks and sammiches but the game was too amazing to miss!

    Fuck. Yeah.

That was a more complete team performance and one of the more enjoyable Bears wins than i have seen in a long time!

Lot of people deserve plaudits for that game but the one i would single out first, who i've ripped plenty early on here, is Getsy. That was the best week, and game, of work he has put in here by a country mile. There was a load of good playcalls, and at the right times crucially, particularly in the 1st half i felt but also in the 2nd. A wide variation in runs, passes, types of runs, sides of the field he was attacking. It just felt like a lot of variation without ever having to be overly gimmicky and the Patriots struggled to get a handle on it.

But even more impressive than the situational stuff imo was the overall gameplan, the way they decided to use Fields. How can i put this. I don't watch a lot of Ravens games, but what i have, that was the closest to running a Lamar Jackson tailored offense that i have seen from the Bears re Justin Fields, and the results largely spoke for themselves. Until you can get an O-Line that can actually fucking pass block, and WR's that will consistently win for you, basically until the conditions are there to even consider trying to mould Fields into a more drop back passer, this is what they should be doing. They gave him a ton of designed runs last night inc at least 4 QB draws. Yes! Getting him being a true dual threat. Get him outside the pocket, on both sides. Honestly im not even that worried about him taking hits running the ball cos the truth is he takes more punishment in the fucking pocket!!

Only negatives on Getsy, one minor one moderate. He should've done more to help Borom, who got claimed by Judon as bad as Braxton Jones did last week by Montez Sweat. By midway thru the 3rd Borom was done and the floodgates were opened. You've gotta see that and help him a little more. ALso, small thing, but things got hyper game management from Getsy in the 4th Q. And i get it, it worked so can't really criticise. But im telling you guys, there was a big play left on the table towards the end there. The scoreboard, the game flow, the ticking clock, the success running late on particularly out of various tight formations....the Patriots had no choice but to increasingly commit to stopping the run with frequent cover 1/cover 0 looks. It was crying out for another tight formation then PA naked boot. Get a TE or tight WR flaring out(or even straight up between the hash and the numbers) with Fields and at worst you'd have a 2 on 1. I get it, they didn't want to blow it. But learn to be bold. Nothing raises morale on a young offense like hitting big plays. The Pats had no choice but to sell out on the run in those situations, it was there for the taking.

Fields did a lot of encouraging stuff. Mostly(but not always) getting the ball out on time and with faith when needed, going thru some nice progression work on others. That was great. I don't know why he misses gimme throws every game, is it the QB version of the focus drop for a WR? The pick was undeserved and not his fault but will hit the statline all the same. Fields elusiveness in this game blew my mind at times. Don't know how he felt/evaded the blindside blitzing DB on the big Kmet throw. Multiple times avoided sure sacks and went on to hurt the D with his legs.

The Bears pulled down the Patriots pants, took out the leather belt and put it across their ASS in this game. A beatdown in all 3 phases. Only thing i would've liked was for them to actively try to punch it in at the end of the game. Because fuck Belichek. He's been doing that to other teams for 20years.

    Totally agree.

Glad he got to make a play, hope its a confidence booster, but there was an element of right time and place about it. It wasn't bad coverage, but as Kurt Warner would say, that WR was def NFL open. Brisker's pick was far more impressive to me

That positive play came off the amazing escape by Fields first, but it was a good catch by Kmet and really heady play after it. At that speed and so close to the sideline there's no way he could've known if he was in bounds. Really liked the mental alertness there.

You're question about Judon was right on point. Who the hell was blocking that guy?! No one it felt like.

You know, it reminds me of Cam Newton, and his breakout year was when they used him as a true dual threat, and then the next year they put him in the pocket, and he failed miserably. Maybe that's Fields path to success, make teams have to commit to stopping his legs and that opens up things in the passing game (as long as he can hit them). I would take a Cam Newton career from fields, that is good enough to win the dance, if everything else is firing right.

I couldn't get too mad at the gamesmanship, but yeah, Bill would *never* do that for anyone else. He would punch that shit in, hell didn't he fake a kneel in a similar situation?

I guess being classy means being classy even against someone that wouldn't return the favor. If it were me, I go for it all day every day, because if it fails the result is the same.

This and the other tweet, I am becoming a Jenkins fan. Dline was so high on him at the draft I was thrilled we took him, and this shit is right up his alley. The other thing about Getsy in this game, was it felt like they were running off tackle/off guard instead of up the gut, where Mustipher can fuck you. I'm not sure what the attitude thing was that got him benched, but Jenkins can play, and it is *fantastic* to see them playing to his strengths here in his second year.

This kind of thing is what this year was supposed to be about, figure out pieces that should be here for the future (Jenkins) and what pieces can get cut loose/need to prioritize (Mustipher).

This reminds me of some cubs game a decade or so ago, where the Cubs fell down huge in the game, and my drunk ass in the stands was all "It's only 6 runs! NO PROBLEM" and they came back to win. Great times. Can't remember the specific game, but it was an afternoon game during the Prior/Wood era.

    See?
Being positive and calm isn't always bad.
Well, except for that bit of over-the-top nauseating adoration of Trubisky. That was just plain wrong of me.
