Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is out of the hospital. Garrett and a passenger in his car was taken to the hospital after an accident on Monday afternoon. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that Garrett was discharged on Monday night. Before his release, Garrett’s agent Nicole Lynn said her client did not break any bones and that he was “alert and responsive” during testing for other injuries. Pelissero reports that he will have more tests following his discharge. Garrett’s car flipped multiple times and pictures of it make it clear that Garrett’s injuries could have been a lot worse. The coming days will tell us if the injuries he did sustain will cause him to miss time for the Browns. PFT
The car actually looks good for a vehicle that flipped a few times. Must have some good roll bars inside the frame.
The Cleveland Brown have issued a statement regarding the status of defensive end Myles Garrett, following an automobile accident on Monday. “First — and most importantly — we are thankful that Myles, his passengers and no other parties were seriously injured in the single-car accident yesterday,” the team said. “After medical evaluation today, our team doctors at University Hospital have concluded that Myles has sustained a shoulder sprain, a biceps strain, minor lacerations as well as some bumps and bruises to various other body parts. “Myles didn’t suffer any fractures and has also cleared concussion protocol. Currently, our focus is on providing Myles the medical care needed for him to return to football activity. Although we hope to have him back soon, his availability for Sunday’s game in Atlanta will be evaluated by team doctors throughout the week.” Football continues to be a secondary consideration. But it appears that Garrett won’t miss much time due to Monday’s accident. PFT
Call poison control and the paramedics, I think most of the Browns board members have swallowed bottles of sleeping pills. Getting no responses, hardly. Other than that, before the season I was concerned about the Offense and not the Defense. But now it's the opposite. Even with this last bad game, Brisset is better than expected. As for the Defense.....we've got some really good players and all I can think of this debacle of a team unit is that Joe Woods sucks............
It goes deeper than that, Doug. Much deeper. We don't have near the talent on this team that the talking heads said we did. And, like all good little goobers, we ate it up and believed it. That's on us. The D-line and LB room is a black hole devoid of intelligent life. So, the Browns trade for a guy that was on IR. That's on Andrew Berry. What little that does work is Nick Chubb. So the Browns open the game with multiple passes (including an int.) and give him 3 whole carries in the entire 2nd half. That's on Kevin Stefanski., Week in, week out the strong side of the defensive secondary doesn't know what the weak side is doing. As a result, opposing quarterbacks can take their pick of multiple wide open receivers. That's on Joe Woods. Even after getting stung by the Jets, we STILL don't know how to handle on side kickoffs. That;s on Mike Priefer. And, just in case you missed it, the Browns' front office handed out expensive contract extensions like Dollar General toilet paper and then topped that off with a record breaking contract to a quarterback that (a) hasn't played a down since 2020 and (b) was known to be facing a suspension. As a result, at the end of the 2022 league year, the Browns are in salary cap hell. I would suggest all remaining Browns fans become intimately familiar with Over the Cap.com and pay particular attention to the dead money on each player contract. This is so they can decide which players contracts they're willing to eat. That's on Paul DePodesto and the Haslams for green lighting all these moves. The obvious solution is to tear it all the way down to the foundation. But, I'm starting to think even the foundation isn't salvageable.
I noticed that. Wasn't sure if we went zero-dark-thirty for draft scouting or if we found other hobbies to fill the weekends with. Hang in there, my friend! I hear ya. Back in my pre-March 18th days I was probably in the minority, but I had a lot of concerns about the defense at the time: The Browns' defense was a paper tiger in 2021. While it was easy (convenient) to blame the quarterback play in 2021, the team lost some close games by a combined 32 points, but the defense gave up over 45 points in the fourth quarter alone during those loses. They seem to feast on sub-par QBs and lose to mid-range and above. The Patriots game yesterday was particularly concerning seeing some of the replays/low-lights today. And overall lack of effort, out-of-position, and blown coverages that simply should not be happening Year 3 into a defense's build. Firing Joe Woods is a step, but in which direction? Who replaces him, what system to they plan to install, and do the players sit said scheme/system?
Oof. Not sure if it's time to hit the kill switch yet, but I do think the Browns management needs to thoroughly evaluate both coaches and players to see what makes sense keeping around. As you noted, salary cap is not going to be kind starting in 2023 so it's plausible that some guys with large contracts who aren't making the biggest impact could be moved to acquire other assets (players/picks). Gotta throw out the QB for now because for better or worse, the team is tied to him for the next four seasons. You've got Garrett ($29MM), Cooper ($24MM), Teller ($15MM), Johnson III ($14MM), and Ward ($12MM) who'll be taking up roughly 37% of the cap. I excluded Chubb (the teams' best player) because that truly would be a tear-down, but his cap hit is $15MM (~6%). Of that list (again, excluding Chubb), Teller's probably the only one earning that contract. Considering the wide receiver room, interior defensive line, and linebacker groups all need re-built, I would expect a few of those pieces to be in-play for 2023. On the coaching side, a lot will depend on how much leniency is granted to KS for this year with his new QB shelved 11 games. Personally, I think you've seen enough by Year 3 to know he's not the guy. Too many mental errors, not enough in-game adjustments, over-thinks too many aspects of the game, etc. He's got the NFL's version of: up, down, up, down, left, right, left right, A, B, A, B, Select, Start and simply cannot figure out how to win games with it. Bill Callahan's offensive line with John Dorsey's running backs should get teams with mid-range QB play at least 11 wins in a 17 game season. Yes, defenders are stacking the box, but only about 29% of the time -- up from last season's percentage of 26% -- but close to Derrick Henry's 2020 season when he recorded over 2,000 yards and Tennessee won 11 games. But again... what's the appetite for turnover and exactly how much leash does he have with the whole QB debacle?
So with no one in here chatting or ranting or raving or just blathering on......... I think we can call the Browns season over on this board.......
Most boards look like this now. It’s quite a shame, because this is a good site to post on. Seems like everyone is pissed at someone else on here and just kinda gave up on posting here. I wonder how the uncivil sites are doing?
Joel Bitonio on next two games: We’re at a big moment for our season The Browns have fallen from 2-1 to 2-4. Can they get up? With the Ravens and Bengals on deck before the bye, guard Joel Bitonio knows it’s now or never. “We are at a big moment for our season,” Bitonio told reporters on Thursday. “We are not where we want to be record wise. We have two division opponents. You handle your business, and you see where you are there. No one has really pulled away in our division yet so it is a big moment. I think the guys understand the sense of urgency. It is something. We have to find a way to get a win. We have been stressing that, but it is very important this week. I think the guys are committed to putting in whatever work is necessary. I don’t know if you need extra work, but make sure that you are 100 percent committed to getting those results.” The Browns, at 2-4, are tied with the Steelers behind the 3-3 Ravens and 3-3 Bengals. So, yes, the next two games are critical. They’re also critical for the Ravens and Bengals. Still, if the Browns can’t win at least one of them, they’ll enter the bye on a five-game slide. After that, they’ll have the Dolphins, Bills, and Bucs before Deshaun Watson returns in Week 13 at Houston. If they can get to 5-6 or even 4-7 before Watson returns, they’ll have a chance to make a late-season run at a playoff berth. But if they’re 3-8 or 2-9, that may not be enough for a rusty starting quarterback to turn around, since they’d likely have to run the table and/or need various forms of help. PFT
I started the season wanting the Browns to lose to Carolina and Baker. Sorry that's just how I felt. Baker has crapped bed and is proving that he wasn't "the guy", and I'm dissappointed in that. Since then I've not cared at all except I wanted them to beat Pittsburgh, just because it's Pittsburgh. I'm back to "I don't care mode", but with divisional rivals on the immediate horizon I'm a little torn, cause my distain for Baltimore runs deep too. Cinci, I don't have much emotion about, as they've never been much of a thorn in our side. So I'm kinda sitting this one out, and trying to find a way to actually feel good about Deshuan Watson next year, and frankly I think I'll always feel ambivalent as long as Watson remains QB. I recognize it was a move that makes sense from a football perspective, but the embarassing "all guaranteed" contract only shows how desperate and foolish this organization is, once again. All of that stupidity: not in pursuing a better QB but in how they blindly decided to risk everything, offer a contract that most likely will never be matched, and mortgaged the future in draft picks is mind bending, to me. Not smart. Not accountabel. Not tough. Beyond that I believe we have all recognized that "continuity" as a goal lacks recognizing the hard decisions that need to be made on the staff. I'm not ready to cut Stephanski loose, but he has to accept and face up to the facts, that his boys club is disintegrating, and he's not been critical enough in his evaluation of his staff. There are some hard decisions to be made and his not making them may be his downfall. For now it's impacting the effort and desire of the players to give their all. I don't know if he's the guy, but I'm not sold he's not either, but he has to demand more from his people, or he will be unable to demand more from his team, and we'll see more and more guys "hurt" and unable to play, as the season becomes more and more clearly a loss. I cannot just walk away from the team I've held so closely for so long, but I'm taking a time out, so my ingagement in this board and all thngs Browns is on hold. I just wanted to say that, cause I don miss the passion, and the interaction with all of you. Cheers
Don't put it all on Baker Rhule is an idiot when it comes to running a pro offense. Then on top of that the Panthers are a bad team. Baker isn't one of those guys that is going to lift a bad team up to contention. I still believe he will have the last laugh on the Browns.
