I just think going back to Nagy's time here we've seen that same play call not work so many times on 3rd and 4th down. You're best run blocker is your probably your right tackle. Borom is a mauler that can't pass block to save his life. Why not put Kmet on that side....bring in a receiver tight to create a crease and run the ball that way? I feel like you have a chance. Running up Mustipher's ass is more often than not a recipe for failure.

The Bears have invited us to attend a game again this year against the Lions on 11-13, and I will drag Mongo out of his seat yet again and get him on here, however on the 15th I'll be at Halas Hall for a team workout as apparently, the Bears will be possibly sponsoring a (some) dogs for us, and we've been invited to meet the players. So after absorbing what I read on this board, if I were to relate that sentiment they will probably cut all ties with our organization in the future. Fuck it! I'm going rogue and I will put on a coach's hat and insert Reiff at tackle and will personally escort Bustipher out the fuckin' door.

That's just it though right, this is the kind of game I'd expect from him making progress. Hitting WRs in the hands, overall playing well which highlights the shit out of the people around him being terrible. In the previous weeks, HE was also terrible. The stat line wasn't great or anything, but if we take the eye test, it was a good day, especially the second half.

You don't like starting with the ball at the 15? But hey, maybe we have the next Devin Hester hidden on our roster, how would we know?

Bustipher is even better than "Bustin Fields" I saw on reddit.

I was pretty pissed off watching the game, but honestly this is the kind of game I expected from the Bears this year, they fought hard, had some development from Fields, etc. It's the kind of game you should expect going forward. You look around the league and it could be so much worse. The Lions were shut out with their new exciting offense, the Jags scored only 6, the Steelers with their new QB only scored 3 points!

And the Packers lost, which is always a great thing.

Gotta be honest brothers, after that rough as hell start to the season for him, i was just relieved to see Fields show something of what we're supposed to be seeing from him. It didn't light up the league(tho i agree with varder the stat line will often be misleading i suspect) but he did play very well and it gives me some of that classic Bears torture device, hope. Personally what i liked the most from this week was the big improvement in pocket presence. He hasnt yet learned the art of sliding up/around in the pocket to buy that extra bit of time like the top QBs do, he's very sudden. When he feels the heat he often reminds me of a greyhound let out of the traps. I imagine with his insane athletic gifts it must be hard to discipline yourself in that way, to hang in the pocket like more statue QB's have no choice but to do. Anyway the internal clock seemed better, the feel for when protections were breaking down was good. Kid should've had a damn 50 yard TD run.

A bad game is only one game and so is a good game. Follow this up.

    Fucking spot on!!

When ripping that play call in the game thread i imagined what i might've called in that situation and you just described it. Your best blocking combo is surely RG/RT, so use it! And yes bring Kmet in. Get the QBs ass under center and run in the C or D gap. But do not chug another run at the A gap out of shotgun when you've been hitting that all night long and on almost every occasion either Mustipher or Patrick end up 2 yards behind the LOS. This offense doesnt have many strengths, at least try and play to the few you have.

Anybody joining Blang in giving up on Fields? I'm about there. At times he looked like a warrior last night getting hit by the time he completes the 3rd step of the dropback and at times--particularly not ideal times, he shat his pants and couldn't finish drives. His defenders are bending over backwards to make excuses like the easy fucking TD he missed to Ryan Griffin being blamed on Griffin breaking vertical too late, or how the INT wasn't his fault when he forced it into a window so tiny there was no margin for error. He's not having good games. 210 yards passing last week being construed as a 'great week' was the pinnacle of football retardation.

The Jordan Mills experiment should end immediately. Sorry, I meant Braxton Jones. I almost cant tell the difference between two useless players.

Wasn't Michael Schoefield awful in preseason and got cut? Yet he can get on the field before the 12.5 million dollar man Riley Rieff as a starter.

At first I thought it was just bad luck signing an injured guy, but now I'm starting to think Poles bungling the Larry Ogunjobi deal set the tone for the garbage I've watched all year and fell asleep watching last night.

Jaquan Brisker is the only addition making positive plays. Gordon has a couple, but the negatives far outweigh the couple impressive open field tackles he's made.

I'm not even sure Quan is worth 40 million over 5 years right now with 15 mil guaranteed. Bad angles. Bad plays. And the play Wentz clocked him and put him on his ass while he took another bad angle pursuing the halfback on a toss? Ugly.

And that's fine, don't pay him and save it for Jaylon Johnson. I like having a CB1 again, even if he chirped at times.

Velus Jones is a shifty returner who is trying to be more useless than Ted Ginn Jr. Wasn't he being sold to us as 'Deebo 2.0?'

Who's ready for a defensive player with a top 3 pick next spring instead of a LT or WR?

    Luke Getsy is a clown.

    Fire everyone.

Two nice plays a game doesn't outweigh the rest of the crap that Fields displays. I'm getting sick of fans (not here) going on about how he's making marginal improvements each game. He's not. The same dozens of mistakes he made last night he's made all season. The same (2) great plays he made last night, he's made all season. Rob's golf analogy was right on. Majority of Bears fans take those 2 great plays to build all their hopes around, which is enough to blot out all the other crap for them.

That said I do feel bad for the guy. Based on his body language throughout the game, it seems like real frustration has set in. The brutal hits he takes, many of which are his fault, the bad throws, the drops from shitty WRs, it's getting to him. I'm amazed his season didn't end last night. I thought for sure he injured his knee badly on that one hit in the 4th quarter. He is a physically tough SOB.

The Pettis play in the end zone was PI. Should've given us 4 more cracks from the 1 yard line, which we obviously would not have scored on. Fields was entirely at fault for us not scoring on our first 2 trips inside the 5. Not a single excuse can be made for his plays on either of those drives.

As for the Mooney play at the goal line, another example of a tough catch that any #1 WR in the league makes, he doesn't.

Last night was one of those games where I'm convinced that even me, someone who has never played the game, could do a better job coaching than our staff. Continuing to put #17 on the field in critical downs and even running plays for him late in the game. Continuing to put Velus Jones when back in PR even though it could be argued that decision has literally cost us 2 wins. Football retarded. Yes, I could do better because I'd have neither of those guys on the field in those situations.

The schedule only gets tougher from here. The only bad teams left on the schedule are the Lions and Jets, and right now the Jets are better than us. I said 5 wins before the season and even that may not happen.

I'd rather be a Commanders fan and be stuck with Dan Snyder than the McCaskeys. Because after yesterday it's clear there's a real chance Snyder might be forced out. When the old hag dies, I'm not convinced the family sells. Georgie thinks they are uniquely qualified to lead this team into the future.

    I still want a LT.

I want to focus on this, because I think this is a big part of the problem. Yes, fuck the Bears for giving Fields a high school JV team to play with, and coaches who would rather be more like Matt Nagy than win games. But Fields is just as big an enemy for himself right now. You say that he's not making marginal improvements - I would argue that he's regressing. He's displayed better talent / traits than he is right now.

It looks to me, from the outside, that the guy is so used to winning and making big plays, that he hasn't yet adjusted to life on a bad NFL team; a league where taking a 3 yard gain is sometimes the smart play, or throwing the ball away can extend your career and win games. He's used to throwing bombs with great protection and WR's that can outrun defenders... now he's got fuck all and is beating himself up about it, and defaulting to using his youth to make plays. But hey, that youth isn't gonna do it for you - learn from the old guys and start being smarter about the game.

Something drastic needs to change. This isn't a team that's making incremental improvements, and it's not a QB who is showing he's absorbing the game. Whatever formula they're using right now needs to be changed in a big way, and I have a hard time seeing them believing that right now, or making a change before the season is over. Get a REAL QB coach in there, get someone experienced in the building and showing Justin the works. Get Justin an advocate in the building for getting him more help. Because clearly that's not there right now.

It's almost impossible to get to the 5 yard line 3 separate times in a game and score zero points. You'd think at least one of those times you would get a FG.

That was definitely PI on Pettis in the endzone. DB is hanging on his arm well before ball is near his hands. They probably still wouldn't have scored....but that's PI.

Is Riley Rieff banging Getsy's wife?

If Jones goes anywhere near a punt the rest of his life there should be an investigation. What the fucking fuck?

I'm not out on Fields. But he has a lot of work to do. He's tough. He's athletic. He has a good arm. Great. He has piss poor decision making skills and he takes hits he doesn't need to take which is going to shorten his career a ton. The team around him was bad last night but he wasn't good either. Yes he makes plays with his feet but he had a sure TD to Griffen. That was a layup. And he missed. You simply can't miss those.

Roquan got pancaked by a QB.

Kyler Gordon can tackle. If he can figure out how to cover without always having to use his makeup speed he will be good.

Brisker is a future Pro Bowler.

EJax caused a fumble last night that magically bounced right back to the receiver. That's what happens to bad teams.

    A NT is needed. Badly.

The offensive line is just trash. Borom isn't a tackle. Jones is getting undressed weekly. Mustipher is a fucking joke. Teven Jenkins is your best OL. And the coaches don't like him.

I didn't have many issues with Getsy's playcalling last night. He had some gems. There were some questionable ones but a better group of talent probably masks that. It's been a mixed bag from him but I've seen enough good that I want to see what he can do with better talent. The personnel groupings at the end of the game bothered me though.

It's early but I actually like Eberflus so far. I don't actually know why but I like him.

Last week the fuckwad who shall not be named had two game altering plays with a block in the back and a fumble at the end of the game after failing to get out of bounds. Why oh why did anyone think it was a good idea to call his number at the end of this game?

That was some really piss poor announcing. A few times Michaels called a six to eight yard gain a short gain. Herbstreit just sucks.

Lots of bad all around. Not much you can really enjoy about this team.

    They’ll finally take one…

Usually he’ll be in pre-injured (usually the back or knee) condition, and he’ll be useless after they play him everywhere except LT.

Yep, and that story never ends well. At least in 76 and 77, they took back-to-back OTs in the 1st round, and while it wasn't the glamorous thing to do, it was the right thing to do. Now neither one made it to the SB team, but in 81 and 83 they took a couple more swings in the first round that did. Finks and Vainisi both understood that concept.

I'm not giving up on him, because I don't have to, we have the rest of the season. But concerned? You fucking bet. Yeah, he has good plays, and yes, the supporting cast blows ass, but the opportunities he does get, gotta make more of those plays. This game was a step back from the last game. You can't, for instance, smack the ball directly into the helmet of a dlineman. That play happening full speed I thought that's unlikely, they got a hand up. No, the reason the ball goes so high is it bounced off the metal of the fucking helmet. The guy didn't jump, he was just standing up. How the fuck does something like that happen?

So I'm not joking when I think they have a real shot at Top 5. The question is, if Justin continues to play like this, do they go for QB again? Trade down to a QB-needy team and pick up some offensive pieces? I'll be interested your take pat as we get closer who you think the Bears should target. Top 5 there should be some almost guaranteed stars up there. Leave it to the Bears to pick Kevin White Jr.

This legitimately made me laugh, because it is completely true.

I had to go back and look at my predictions and we're on target, the difference was I thought the Commanders would be.....not excrement. The NFCE is looking, as a whole, way better than I thought. The Jets are looking better than I thought, but don't forget the Falcons, they are still terrible too, wins agains the Browns and Seahawks really shouldn't strike fear at anyone. That said, it's a possible loss, every game is. Even the Lions.

Though I do think even with all the bad, the Lions we can win at least one if not both. It's the Lions. Come on now.

Bingo. Regressing is the word and it's bad. I had a little hope after last week that he was turning that corner and progressing again, and today it was also not good. Maybe not as bad as the first few weeks but still a step back.

It's not just the winning though. His clock is also not speeding up. There was the one sack he took where he straight up had the happiest feet I've ever seen. Maybe the same play or another where he wanted to release the ball, you could SEE him second guess and not fire and then run around. He does not trust what he's seeing, isn't confident, and the clock isn't speeding up. It has to or his career is over before it begins.

You and Pat both bring this up, and it's this kind of play that bring out the excuses that (I at least) am sick of. Could the TE have been a bit faster on the break, and was Justin throwing to a pre-defined spot? Yes, but goddamn it man, *ADJUST* to what his happening in front of you.

Then Keyshawn Johnson comes out and blames the TE:

And that's it, the Fields nuthuggers have another week of blameless fucking Fields.

To be clear, I'm not full Blang here and writing him off, he can correct it. But if you watch these games every week and gloss over all the errors, I don't know what the fuck to tell you. The bad outweighs the good right now substantially on his play alone. The entire offense sucks (minus the RBs honestly) and Fields is a part of that. Set up to fail, you bet.

I saw one the other day that said, "ALL other QBs in the league would perform as badly". No no no no no no no no. Stop it. Other QBs would struggle yes, but there are those that can read defenses and get the ball out quick.

I miss our old pal ChicagoMarine. You build from the trenches!

The thing is for me, this past game, I expected to win, because the Redskins/Commies/whatever are *the* worst team in football. They are not good. And frankly the Bears almost won anyway. Velus Jones Jr basically gifted them a TD.

I also didn't expect to be bitching as much about Fields. We do have to give some hate to our fantastic o-line. How do we block to run a screen? No clue, just let guys run past you.

I didn't hate going for it on 4th and goal. The call to give it to Herbert was....something. Going for it on 4th and 11 at the end of the game, ok, but fuck me people, getting a delay of game and pushed back another 5 yards? 4th and 16 now. Bears gotta Bears.

It was nice to see Jaylon Johnson out there.

Hoge and Jahns made a good point, Brisker has looked good, Gordon might eventually grow to something not terrible, but what of the guys Poles *has* brought in that have made a difference? We should be seeing more of the building blocks. Yeah it's a rebuild but he *did* have a draft and some FA with the limited cap.

Fuck Ryan Pace, the amount of money on our books for players not on the team, void years and so forth, good grief. The thing with a plan of "win now" is you have to pay the piper at some point. And we are paying it.

Boom This right here. I mean sure you can throw some shade on the offensive line and receivers, but when his internal clock is a fucking sundial, and his indecisiveness with the football is only on par with Tom Brady and Brett Favre when it came time for them to hang up their cleats, I have little patience with this fucking team,
