Justin Jefferson’s 184 yards propels Vikings to 23-7 victory over Packers The Packers couldn’t stop Justin Jefferson, and Aaron Rodgers had no time and no receiving help. It was ugly, as ugly as last season’s opener. Led by Jefferson’s 184 receiving yards, the Vikings beat the Packers 23-7. The Packers lost to the Saints 38-3 in the 2021 opening game, but they don’t have the same team they had a year ago. On Sunday, Rodgers was missing left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee), right tackle Elgton Jenkins (knee, pectoral) and receiver Allen Lazard (ankle). All three were inactive. Davante Adams, of course, is in Las Vegas now. He finished 22-of-34 for 195 yards and an interception and took four sacks, injuring his neck in the third quarter when he was sandwiched between Jordan Hicks and Danielle Hunter. He did not miss any time, returning to the game before Jordan Love finished up the final drive, going 4-of-5 for 65 yards. Green Bay did come close to scoring in the second quarter, but on fourth-and-one at the Minnesota 1, A.J. Dillon was stopped for no gain by Za'Darius Smith and Harrison Phillips. Rookie Christian Watson dropped a would-be 75-yard touchdown early in the game. But Sunday was Jefferson’s day as he caught nine passes, two for touchdowns. His scoring plays covered 5 and 36 yards. Kirk Cousins went 23-of-32 for 277 yards and two touchdowns, and Dalvin Cook had 20 carries for 90 yards and caught three passes for 18 yards. The Vikings won in Kevin O’Connell’s debut. PFT
Adam Thielen: New offense was “attacking and attacking and attacking” The Vikings turned the page on the Mike Zimmer era on Sunday with a rousing 23-7 win over the Packers, the team that has dominated the division for a very long time. The difference arose in large part from an offense that goes on the offensive. “I’ve never been part of an offense that just was attacking, and attacking, and attacking,” receiver Adam Thielen said after the game, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com. “It didn’t matter the score. It didn’t matter the situation. We were attacking. It felt good.” Thielen’s only coach in Minnesota was Zimmer. Which mean the offense was never attacking under the team’s former head coach. The Kevin O’Connell-led Vikings generated 395 yards of offense, with an average gain of 6.5 yards per play. Receiver Justin Jefferson caught 11 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. The Vikings visit the Eagles next Monday night, in a rematch of the biggest game of the Zimmer tenure — which resulted in a blowout win for the Eagles and a berth in the Super Bowl. PFT
Vikings get out of week 1 relatively healthy Cameron Dantzler left the game with cramps during the game but ended up returning shortly thereafter. Likewise, Andrew Booth Jr. also left the game but returned as well. The injury was unknown at the time but it ended up being a quad injury. During his press conference, head coach Kevin O’Connell had high hopes that Booth Jr. would be back for the game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Along with Booth Jr. and Dantzler looking to be healthy, the Vikings are hopeful that rookie safety Lewis Cine will be ready to play on Monday night. The only other player on the injury report this past week was starting defensive end Jonathan Bullard with a biceps injury. He ended up playing in 29 snaps for the Vikings defense on Sunday. This is a great spot for the Vikings going into O’Connell’s second week as head coach. VIKINGS WIRE

Harrison Smith suffered a concussion Monday night Vikings safety Harrison Smith will have to clear the concussion protocol in order to play against the Lions this weekend. After Monday night’s loss to the Eagles, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said that Smith was being evaluated for a concussion. On Wednesday, O’Connell confirmed that Smith suffered a concussion and that the team will have to wait and see what kind of progress he makes heading into Sunday. “Harrison’s in the protocol,” O’Connell said. “Short week, so it’ll be kind of a day-to-day process. He feels pretty good, but we’ll kind of allow that process to play out.” Smith was busy against the Eagles and finished thenight with 13 tackles. He had seven tackles and interception in the season-opening win over the Packers. PFT
Kevin O’Connell: Dalvin Cook is day-to-day, getting tests on shoulder Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell gave an update on running back Dalvin Cook during his postgame press conference on Sunday. Cook left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury after fumbling on a third quarter run against the Lions. He did not return for the rest of the 28-24 win. O’Connell said Cook is having tests done and is considered day-to-day at this point. “Calvin just had a little bit of a shoulder deal that kinda came up on that fumble,” O’Connell said. “Unfortunate with him being three yards away from his first 100-yard day. I thought he was phenomenal.” Cook was actually four yards shy of a 100-yard day and he scored a touchdown in the second quarter. PFT
Trade talks concerning Alexander Mattison don't how I feel about that get something for him just don't let just walk out the door get a 3ŕd or 4th or 5th round pick or get a decent run stopper
I wouldn't mind seeing Lineval Joseph in purple again cause they need a big body to help stop the run game, and draft a big body in the draft really missing the Williams Wall which was awesome
Vikings rookie safety Lewis Cine will remain in London as he begins the recovery process for the fractured ankle he suffered during Sunday’s win over the Saints. “After suffering an injury in yesterday’s game, Lewis Cine was immediately transported to a local hospital where he underwent a successful preparatory procedure in advance of his scheduled surgery tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 4,” the Vikings said in a statement on Monday afternoon. “Following surgery, Lewis will remain in London to continue his initial recovery process before returning to Minnesota at the appropriate time. A member of the Vikings medical staff will also stay in London until Lewis returns. “Head coach Kevin O’Connell and members of the Vikings organization have been in constant communication with Lewis, who is in great spirits.” According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Cine suffered a compound fracture to his lower leg. Cine was the 32nd overall pick of the 2022 draft. He was mainly playing special teams snaps before suffering the injury on Sunday. PFT

To my Minnesota friends - we've narrowed down our home search to the St Michael / Otsego / Elk River area. We've got a couple other spots we're considering, but that seems to be the area that checks our boxes most. We're checking the area out in a few months, when our newborn is a little older, but was wondering if anyone here knew anything worth sharing about the area. I appreciate y'all!

Vikings signing DL Khyiris Tonga from Falcons practice squad - (nose tackle) Per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Vikings are signing defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga off of the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad. There hasn’t been a corresponding roster move announced yet, but I think we can safely assume that it’s going to involve Lewis Cine going on injured reserve following his devastating injury on Sunday. Tonga was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of BYU. He appeared in fifteen games for the Bears as a rookie, including getting two starts. Tonga was then waived by the Bears as a part of their final cuts in late August and the Falcons signed him to their practice squad. He has not appeared in a game for the Falcons yet this season. At 6’2” and a sandwich short of 340 pounds, Tonga appears to be in line to back up Harrison Phillips at the nose tackle position for the Vikings. Because the Vikings signed him from another team’s practice squad, he is required to go on the active roster straight away. Welcome to Minnesota, Khyiris Tonga!
