Bucs expect Fournette, Perriman, Gage to play, unsure on Julio Jones The Buccaneers will be shorthanded on offense today against the Packers, but perhaps not as shorthanded as they could have been. Three injured offensive players — running back Leonard Fournette, wide receiver Breshad Perriman and wide receiver Russell Gage — are all expected to play today, according to multiple reports. All three are listed as questionable on the injury report. The news is not as good for wide receiver Julio Jones, whose status will be decided after pregame warmups but whose knee injury may take another week to heal. The Bucs’ top two receivers have already been ruled out, with Mike Evans suspended for the game and Chris Godwin suffering from a hamstring injury. Gage, Perriman and newcomer Cole Beasley may be Tom Brady‘s top three targets today. PFT
Patriots are expected to be without Jakobi Meyers Jakobi Meyers led the Patriots in targets with 13 passes thrown his way last Sunday, but it looks like Mac Jones will have to find other places to go with the ball against the Ravens. Meyers has been battling a knee injury this week and Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that he is not expected to play on Sunday afternoon. It would be the first game that the wide receiver has missed since the 2020 season. Meyers leads the Patriots with 13 catches and 150 yards through the first two weeks. Wide receiver Nelson Agholor has nine catches and no other members of the team have more than four catches thus far this season. DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne, and Lil'Jordan Humphrey join Agholor as the other wideouts in New England. PFT
New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston, listed as questionable because of back and ankle injuries, is expected to play against the Carolina Panthers, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Running back Alvin Kamara, who missed last week's loss, is also expected to play. However, quarterback Taysom Hill (rib) is not slated to be out there, Rapoport reports. In two games this season, Winston has thrown three touchdown passes... and three interceptions. New Orleans (1-1) travels to Charlotte to take on Carolina (0-2) at 1 p.m. ET. NFL.com
Not great news but I'll take it. The Saints can survive without Kamara. We have Ingram. But can we win a game with Dalton at the helm? I don't want to find out.
Dalvin Cook out of the game (shoulder). Herbert for the Chargers is active, still uncertain if he'll play.
Saints receiver Michael Thomas left the game in the fourth quarter with a foot injury. He went into the injury tent and eventually headed to the training room for evaluation. The Saints list him as questionable to return. He missed most of the past two seasons with an ankle injury, which required two surgeries. Thomas has five catches for 49 yards. The Saints also are without receiver Jarvis Landry. He is questionable to return with an ankle injury. Rookie Chris Olave has his first 100-yard receiving day with eight receptions for 109 yards. The Saints trail the Panthers 22-7 late in the fourth quarter. PFT
Bears win despite ugly day from Justin Fields Bears quarterback Justin Fields struggled through a miserable day today against the Texans, but in the end the Bears got it done anyway. Fields completed just eight of 17 passes for 106 yards with no touchdowns, two interceptions and five sacks, but Texans quarterback Davis Mills also threw two interceptions, and the second one set up a last-second field goal that gave the Bears a 23-20 win. The Bears are 2-1 and in first place in the NFC North, and Bears fans have to be happy with that. But the lack of development from Fields, the franchise quarterback, is alarming. Khalil Herbert was excellent for Chicago, carrying 20 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns after David Montgomery exited with an injury. For the Texans, who fall to 0-2-1, it’s a disappointing ending in a game when their pass defense played very well, but their run defense did too little, and Mills threw one interception too many. PFT
Panthers beat Saints 22-14 as Christian McCaffrey rushes for 108 yards The Saints couldn’t get out of their own way Sunday. They had three turnovers, one of which was returned for a touchdown, seven penalties, a blocked field goal and a missed field goal. It added to a 22-14 loss for New Orleans. Both teams now sit 1-2. Alvin Kamara was stripped of the football by Frankie Luvu in the first half, with Marquis Haynes Sr. running 44 yards to the end zone with the scoop and score. The Saints had 426 yards, but it wasn’t enough. Jameis Winston went 25-of-41 for 353 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw two interceptions. Henry Anderson blocked a 30-yard Wil Lutz attempt near the end of the second quarter, and Lutz missed a 48-yard try wide right with 7:16 remaining in the third quarter. The Panthers gained only 293 yards, but it was enough. Laviska Shenault Jr. caught a 67-yard pass from Baker Mayfield for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, one of two catches Shenault had for 90 yards. Eddy Pineiro had field goals of 45, 48 and 34 yards to complete scoring drives of 40, 52 and 19 yards. Mayfield was 12-of-25 for 170 yards and the touchdown, and Christian McCaffrey ran for 108 yards on 25 carries. PFT
NFLPA wants an investigation of the decision to allow Tua Tagovailoa to return The Dolphins scored a major upset on Sunday, with the assistance of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The NFL Players Association wants to know whether Tua should have been kept out of the game. PFT has confirmed that the union has exercised its right to initiate an investigation of the decision to allow Tagovailoa to return. Tagovailoa struck his head against the turf in the first half, after being shoved to the ground. He wobbled after he got to his feet. The training staff took him straight to the locker room. Somewhat surprisingly, he returned after halftime. The NFL provided the following explanation to PFT during the game. “I can confirm that the concussion protocol was followed, including a locker room exam,” NFL spokesperson Megan Grant said via email. “These decisions, as you know, are made by a team physician and an Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant.” The concussion protocol provides that, “f the team physician, in consultation with the sideline UNC, determines the instability to be neurologically caused, the player is designated a ‘No-Go’ and may not return to play.” In this case, it was obviously determined that the instability was not caused by head trauma. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media tweeted during the game, and Tua himself afterward, blamed the instability on a back injury that had not been previously disclosed by the team. Here’s the real question. How do the doctors determine that the instability was caused by something other than a concussion? The player, who wants to keep playing, will be inclined to attribute anything like that to anything other than a head injury. Surely, the process requires something more than that. We’ve asked the league that question. We have not yet gotten a response. PFT
I dont believe this one... I sure as hell didnt pick it to go this way! Trevor Lawrence throws three touchdowns as Jaguars blow out Chargers 38-10 Justin Herbert played Sunday, but receiver Keenan Allen, center Corey Linsley, cornerback J.C. Jackson and tight end Donald Parham Jr. didn’t. Edge rusher Joey Bosa left in the first quarter and didn’t return, and left tackle Rashawn Slater left on the first possession of the second half. So, Herbert, playing at less than 100 percent, and the banged-up Chargers never had a real chance against a much-improved Jaguars team. The Jaguars routed the Chargers 38-10. Jacksonville improved to 2-1 and sits alone atop the AFC South, while the Chargers fell to 1-2. Trevor Lawrence completed 28 of 39 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns. He had scoring tosses of 14 yards to Zay Jones, 4 yards to Christian Kirk and 11 yards to Marvin Jones Jr. Zay Jones caught 10 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown. James Robinson ran for 100 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown on 17 carries. The Jaguars gained 413 yards, though they went only 3-of-6 in the red zone. Herbert, who has fractured rib cartilage, went 25-of-45 for 297 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also lost a fumble. PFT
