The biggest problem with the QB job is it was never a true open competition. If it was Pickett would have started at least one of the preseason games. So Trubisky never had to outplay the other QBs on the roster, he just had to avoid playing like total crap. Pickett played lights out and didn’t get rewarded for the quality of his play. Tomlin always says that things are this way when they are really that way. Pickett clearly outperformed all QBs on the roster and still didn’t win the job. The competition was just blowing sunshine up the fans asses.
I have no doubt that Pickett will be the better QB but I'm fine with the disposable Trubisky getting wailed on at Cincinnati to preserve the person who, IMO, has a lot of upside.
I don’t know why Tomlin has to talk nonsense. Just say we’re starting Trubisky no matter what instead of getting peoples hopes up. The fans are going to be screaming for Pickett if the Steelers aren’t doing good on offense. You heard the cheers for him every game at home.
You all know W's are what counts. Preseason football and regular season are apples and oranges. Whats really cool for the Steelers is they have their diamond in the rough, the ace in the hole and a trade piece, if necessary with Mason. There are not too many teams if any that can boast what Pittsburgh has... and thats a really good QB room.
I know this is your first year watching football Gidion but coaches tend to lie in an effort to keep other teams from having more time to prepare. After you've been around a few years you'll understand.
Of course, I root for this because I want wins and I hear that Mitch is a nice guy. I don't have your confidence here. One thing for certain, that oline might make anyone look bad.
Everyone laughed at me when I wanted Tannehill in Pittsburgh. Instead he went to Tennessee. If you're evaluating Mitch solely on what he did in Chicago I could see why you take the kind of approach Gidion does. I just don't think that's fair or productive. You're talking about a kid that started ONE YEAR of NCAA football and it was in the ACC. One year later he's going to lead a bad franchise? With a bad coaching staff? With very little offensive talent around him? That just isn't realistic. The best thing they could have done for him is put him on the bench for a year and let him watch. Exactly what they are doing for Pickett. Let Kenny learn the speed of the game. Let him learn coverages and protections. Let him consume the playbook until he knows everything at every position. Let him figure out first what he doesn't know before you try to teach everything he needs to know. Trubsiky went top of the draft because of his tools. He has the athletic ability, arm talent and a willingness to work. A season in Buffalo with that coaching staff, watching Josh Allen run that offense was the best thing he could have done for his development and it showed a ton of maturity being willing to do it. There were other places he could have gone with the idea of competing. He went somewhere where he knew that wasn't happening, but where he could learn and grow. I can't wait to watch him take what he has learned and apply it on the field. I think he has the exact skillset for what Canada wants to do. Combine it with his experience in Chicago and Buffalo and this guy could be really good - or as good as our line will allow him to be. Only time will tell.
Man, the way beachbum talks you'd think he knows the guy personally. But really, he's just making assumptions about what Trubisky wanted, thought, his opportunities, etc. Almost like the same thing he attacks other people here for. I like Trubisky, I hope he succeeds. But when he inevitably gets replaced, I hope everyone here treats beachbum with just as little respect as he's given people here.
I hope Trubisky does good, I want to see the Steelers challenge for a championship. But if the Qb isn’t up to that then we will suck.
I disagree with the OL part of this comment, that has to be our weakest position on the offense by far, it does worry me, and don’t like the pedigree of the OL. I hope they go out and prove me wrong. We are running a lot of the offense through Najee this year and holes need to be abundant this year!
If these chucklekfucks had drafted Quinn Minerz instead of K. Greene , Pittsburgh would at least have a prayer capable of run blocking. The current group is suspect. Geez they haven't drafted OL in the first two rounds since 2012. And the second round pick was wasted on Adams out of Ohio State . Without a running game teams are going to blitz whoever is under Center. I predict Mitch is hurt by week 5 when Buffalo pummels him.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to move forward with rookie Kenny Pickett as their starting quarterback, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports, per a source. Pickett entered the game for Mitchell Trubisky to begin the second half of Sunday's Week 4 game versus the Jets. The first-round pick completed 10 of 13 attempts for 120 yards and three interceptions in the defeat, but added two rushing touchdowns in his debut. Pittsburgh goes on the road in Week 5 to face the Buffalo Bills in what will be Pickett's first official start. NFL.com
