I hear ya, but right now Watson doesnt matter, obviously, but in my opinion, I think a average QB can lead this team. Lets hope so, cuz thats what you have. If brissett is not a mistake-monster, I think you Browns fans will be surprised. An important thing i need to do is study the schedule... but there is no passes./
The Browns are down to 73 players with the following moves: Placed on injured reserve (1): DE Chris Odom (knee) Waived (5): WR Ja'Marcus Bradley DT Glen Logan S Jovante Moffatt T Ben Petrula DE Curtis Weaver Terminated contract (1): WR Javon Wims All NFL teams must reduce their active roster to a maximum of 53 players prior to 4 p.m. tomorrow.
Even if it never was a real option definitely is not anymore. Garropolo signed with the 49ers 1. They guaranteed Garoppolo $6.5 million. 2. They added bonus clauses of $500,000 per game and other things. He could earn up $15.45 million. In other words, Garoppolo will be paid like a starter if Lance is hurt or severely struggles, making Garoppolo the starter. 3. Garoppolo also received a no-trade clause. This is important to the QB. It protects him from going to a team he doesn’t like. Edit: He also has a “no tag” clause so he’ll be a free agent next year unless he can manage a Watson-esque deal in a trade with a team he wants to go to.
The Browns on Tuesday made the following roster moves to trim their roster from 73 to the required 53 before the NFL's 4 p.m. ET deadline. Waived (17): LB Dakota Allen WR Daylen Baldwin TE Miller Forristall TE Nakia Griffin-Stewart G Blake Hance WR Mike Harley Jr. LB Willie Harvey Jr. S Lavert Hill (injured) C Brock Hoffman CB Shaun Jolly CB Herb Miller TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden G David Moore Jr. T Alex Taylor DT Roderick Perry II FB Johnny Stanton IV WR Easop Winston Terminated Contract (2): RB John Kelly Jr. QB Josh Rosen Placed on reserve/suspended by commissioner (1): QB Deshaun Watson
Just heard this one and had to share: The real reason the Browns had to trade Baker Mayfield was because Watson isn’t allowed within 500 feet of any children. Sorry about that. But it was a dig at the both of them.
Been thinking this one over for a bit on how the season will turn out.......and it pretty much boils down to the perception of Brisket (as @gidion72 likes to call him). So I'll get to him in a bit. On offense (*minus the QB): They have the same damn good line talent wise as the last few years. I would expect the same type of production from these guys. I actually like the RB situation a bit more than last year - they can throw a couple of them out into WR slots if need be in the likes of Felton, Ford and Johnson. WR has improved...yes, you read that right. We didn't have a #1 last year as OBJ quit early on. This year we have Cooper which already makes this group better than 2021 since he's going to bother showing up on gameday. We lost Landry in the off-season but picked David Bell in the draft. I think he'll be a worthy replacement. As for the rest, we still have DPJ and Schwartz (ugh) so the same as lat year for the #3 and #4. TE's are about the same and I think Njoku has matured enough to make the next step to up his game this year. Bryant and Jesse James are capable reserves. Kicker is much much much better at least in leg strength. We'll see how he does with some swirling winds soon enough. Still better than all the crap we've had at the position for years. Starting QB much better than last year (not going to argue this @SAS. He is better, plain and simple.) but not available until Game 12. Now for the DEF: The D-line is at least as good as last year. I think they now have better depth with a couple of rookies learning next to Garrett and Clowney and the addition of Winovich. LB's are young but should be reaching maturity in the system. They'll at least play at last year's level and CB's and Safeties are a much deeper group who will improve from last year with Newsome only getting better in year 2. Newsome and Ward could be reminiscent of Dixon and Minnifield. Now for the elephant in the room. I have to say that I doubted Brisset and still kind of do. Just a journeyman brought in to be a placeholder for 11 games. But look at his career stats versus what Baker's stats last season. First Brisset's career stats: And Baker's 2021 stats: The completion % is the same but the TD/INT ratio is hugely improved (Baker 17/13 playing hurt last year and Brisset 36/17 for his career) . If the Browns finished 9-8 with a broken Baker, they can at least reach that ballpark for a record with Brisset and the rest of the team, who I think is better this season, holding down the fort until the last 6 games. Then I think it very possible that Watson can come back and go 4-2 or maybe better. Overall, the Browns have a good shot at 9-7 or 10-6, although the 10-6 may not be enough to make the playoffs. I think Brisset has the ability to get 5 or 6 wins if he doesn't have the same stupid turnovers that Mayfield was prone to last year. And we'll see what Watson can do in his 6 games. Maybe he runs the table for us.
I know that it doesn't count for much, but from what I know of him, Jacoby is a player worth rooting for. I taught him back in high school, and he was just a genuinely great kid - and in a program surrounded by some real entitled f***s. I'd like to see him succeed in his 12 week stint.
BEREA, Ohio — Former Browns left tackle Joe Thomas has been referred to as a future Hall of Famer for years now, but the process to get the Cleveland legend into Canton is officially starting. On Tuesday, Thomas was officially announced as one of the 129 modern-era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023. He’s one of nine players who are in their first year of eligibility, and has long been thought of as a first-ballot Hall of Fame selection. The list of modern-era nominees will be reduced to 25 semifinalists in November and, from there, 15 finalists will be announced in early January. Nineteen total finalists will be presented to the full 49-member Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee during its annual meeting to choose the Class of 2023. Those candidates will consist of 15 modern-era finalists and the recently named seniors finalists: Joe Klecko, Chuck Howley and Ken Riley and coach/contributor finalist Don Coryell. On Sunday, Thomas was inducted into the Browns Legends Program along with the late Darrel “Pete” Brewster. Both were honored at a halftime ceremony during the team’s home opener against the Jets. Induction into the Hall of Fame would lead to another accolade with a spot in the team’s ring of honor -- his consecutive snaps streak of 10,363 is already memorialized there. Other first-time eligible players are running back Chris Johnson, offensive lineman Jahri Evans, defensive lineman Dwight Freeney, linebackers NaVorro Bowman and James Harrison, defensive backs Kam Chancellor and Darrelle Revis and punter Shane Lechler. Crazy amount of players on the list. A lot have no chance . Really doesn’t make sense to throw some names on there just to fatten the list.
The Browns have signed Joe Haden to a 1-day contract. Haden will officially retire as a Cleveland Brown.
With the inability of our DB’s to close out the 4th quarter, maybe a homeless guy told Haslam to sign him and the 1-day contract only holds on to him while they hammer out the details for something longer. (sarcasm font off)
The good news is, the Browns are finally playing a team that has a QB that is scared shitless to throw the ball down the field. So, the past two weeks issues shouldn't be an issue. I fear they will over compensate, have TWO guys back to avoid the issue, and Trubisky will be in his comfort zone just hitting underneath all night long.
