Vikings CB Andrew Booth avoids serious injury on Saturday night Vikings rookie cornerback Andrew Booth provided the team with a scare on Saturday night, exiting the preseason contest against the 49ers with a lower leg injury. After the game, coach Kevin O’Connell shared good news with reporters. “It was kind of that same ankle he’s kind of dealt with,” O’Connell said. “It sounds like it’s a positive thing from a standpoint of, you know, just an aggravation of an injury that we kind of know about already. He’s worked his way through that throughout camp. And then ultimately what it will be is just how that thing looks the rest of the week. Hopefully we still get him some work, obviously, throughout this week as we continue to prep. We’ll see where he’s at.” While a far cry from Booth being 100 percent, it also sounds like something that won’t be serious for the second-round pick from Clemson. Booth appears as a second-stringer on the unofficial depth chart, behind Cameron Dantzler. The other starter is veteran Patrick Peterson. PFT
Raiders trade Nick Mullens to Vikings Veteran quarterback Nick Mullens is on the move again. The Raiders have traded Mullens to the Vikings for a conditional seventh-round draft pick, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. After spending his first four NFL seasons in San Francisco, Mullens has moved around a lot, spending part of last year in Philadelphia and part in Cleveland, and then signing with Las Vegas this year only to now get traded to Minnesota. Mullens has started 17 games in his NFL career and may move ahead of Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond on the Vikings’ depth chart as the No. 2 quarterback behind Kirk Cousins. The departure of Mullens likely cements Jarrett Stidham‘s role as the No. 2 quarterback in Las Vegas behind Derek Carr. Stidham previously played for Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels in New England, so he arrived in training camp with a firm grasp of the offense and now will be the quarterback the Raiders turn to if Carr gets hurt. Looks like Nick Mullens is going to be the Vikings QB2 it seems like Kellen Mond practice squad bound for some reason Capt Kirk needs Shaun Mannion around?
Maybe Mannion holds a mean clipboard, or if there using tablets is the only one that knows how to use it.
Broncos run all over Vikings. The Broncos' running game was basically nonexistent in their first two preseason games, as without the main players Denver came up with 39 and 38 rushing yards, respectively. But versus the Vikings it was a different story. The Broncos' backup running backs, most of whom are fighting for one of the coveted spots on the 53-man roster, put together a total of 148 yards rushing and averaged 5.9 yards per attempt in the game, a much more encouraging sign about the depth at the RB position. All three running backs had at least four carries and 23 yards, but Mike Boone was the standout, averaging 8.8 yards per carry on five attempts. With Saturday marking the final chance for players to prove themselves before teams have to make final cuts, the Broncos' bubble running backs put together a strong collective showing. Punter shows off leg. Rookie punter Ryan Wright, who just won the punting competition over Jordan Berry earlier this week, showed why he was given the starting job when he had a total of 225 yards punting on four attempts. He had one go 71 yards (though it went into the end zone), and another go 68 yards before settling at the 2-yard line. Besides the one touchback, Wright's other three punts each landed inside the Broncos 10-yard line. The Vikings kicker, Greg Joseph, also impressed in his appearances, making a 58-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that looked like it could have even gone for a bit more. Kicking and punting aren't always the most news-worthy aspects of the game, but Joseph and Wright turned their kicks into highlights Saturday night.
Kevin O’Connell: Bisi Johnson knee injury “doesn’t look good” Vikings receiver Bisi Johnson missed all of 2021 with a knee injury suffered in a training-camp practice. He now has another one. After Saturday night’s preseason finale at Denver, coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters that Johnson’s latest knee injury “doesn’t look good.” O’Connell said the team will evaluate it further. Johnson had been battling for the fourth spot on the depth chart, with Ihmir Smith-Marsette. The 2019 seventh-rounder had 31 catches and three touchdowns in 16 games as a rookie, and 14 receptions with far fewer targets in 2020. The injury come as the Vikings, along with the other teams, close in on the deadline for cutting the roster from 80 to 53. If Johnson will miss extended time, it will improve the chances of others on the depth chart making the team. PFT
Vikings to waive Kellen Mond When the Vikings made a trade for Nick Mullens last week, it was a clear sign that they weren’t satisfied with their backup quarterback options and at least one of those options will be leaving the team on Tuesday. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the team is waiving Kellen Mond, although the Vikings have not announced the move and Mond could still be traded before the deadline to set a 53-man roster. Mond and Sean Mannion began the summer as the backups to Kirk Cousins. Mond was a third-round pick in 2021 and he appeared in one game during his rookie season. He was 2-of-3 for five yards in that appearance and he went 29-of-51 for 303 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions this summer. There’s also word that the Vikings are waiving 2021 fourth-rounder Janarius Robinson, so one theme of cutdown day in Minnesota is cutting ties to remnants of former General Manager Rick Spielman’s final draft for the team. Vikings cut 2021 fourth-rounder Janarius Robinson The Vikings will be parting ways with a member of their 2021 draft class on Tuesday. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the team will waive linebacker Janarius Robinson en route to setting their 53-man roster. Robinson could return to the practice squad, but if he moves on he will do so without ever playing in a regular season game for the team. He missed his entire rookie season while on injured reserve. He had five tackles and a half-sack in the team’s preseason games. The Vikings moved five players off the active roster on Monday and Robinson’s departure leaves them with 21 more cuts to make before Tuesday afternoon’s deadline. PFT
No word on Shaun Mannion will he be on the roster it absolutely blow my mind if he makes the team,it is just amazing he won't go away
