I can’t see Thomas being the same player he was with Brees. Probably lost a lot of speed with all the time off.

Their saying Thomas looks just like the old Thomas... I cant see him practicing if he wasnt 100% or real close to it, but your probably right, may have lost a step. Of course a step back for Thomas is still a leap better than most, lol.

According to 8 News' David Charns, the attorneys for Alvin Kamara and the others charged in the Las Vegas incident requested an additional "60 days to the case." The court granted another request to rescheduled the hearing regarding the Feb. 5 Las Vegas nightclub matter. Police officially arrested Kamara following the 2022 NFL Pro Bowl in Las Vegas.

Alvin Kamara and Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Chris Lammons will have more time to prepare for and open the NFL season with the extra time granted for the hearing.

Las Vegas police detectives reviewed video and audio as evidence against the alleged attackers.

"According to police, after the victim pushed Kamara's hand off his chest, Kamara shoved him before another suspect, identified as Lammons, punched Greene and knocked him back against a wall," Charns reported.

They determined the video and audio corroborated the story given by the alleged victim.

The NFL has not suspended Kamara or Lammons.

So, I gather they can practice and play until the court findings and the NFL do anything.

Court date confirmedKamara's hearing regarding a battery charge has been rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 29, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Impact - Earlier Monday, Terrell reported that Kamara's imminent court date was pushed back another two months to October, the third time this hearing has been delayed. Kamara faces misdemeanor and felony battery charges for an incident in early February in Las Vegas. Until the legal process plays out, the NFL likely will wait to make a decision on any sort of punishment.

Here’s a piece of memorabilia that Colts owner Jim Irsay may not be inclined to purchase.

A Joe Namath mink coat from the 1970s is available from Heritage Auctions. The current leading bid is $5,250.

The coat, which has the initials JWN on the inside, comes with a signed football and a signed Esquire magazine with Namath on the cover.

Namath became a living legend when he guaranteed that the Jets would beat the Colts in Super Bowl III, despite Namath’s team being double-digit underdogs.

His on-field exploits were matched by his swagger and style. From mink coats to TV commercials to a temporary decision to quit football after Commissioner Pete Rozelle ordered Namath to sell his interest in a restaurant frequented by bookmakers and gamblers and others of the type the NFL shunned — until the NFL realized how much money it could make from legalized sports betting.

How much money will Namath make from his mink coat? That remains to be seen. The bidding remains open until August 27.

And it really would be perfect if Irsay bought the thing.

NFL quietly tweaked lowering of helmet rule for 2022

When the NFL first adopted the rule regarding the lowering of the helmet in 2018, no one knew it was coming. This year, the NFL has made a tweak to the controversial rule that no one knew had happened.

The change appears in the official 2022 rulebook, which the NFL has posted online. The rule now reads as follows: “It is a foul if a player lowers his head and makes forcible contact with his helmet against an opponent.”

The rule has changed in two ways. First, the NFL has removed the requirement that the player initiate contact. Second, the word “forcible” has been added to the rule.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the word “initiate” was erased from the rule because it became a sticking point in connection with fines imposed on players for violating the rule. It was commonplace for players to argue that they did not “initiate” the contact, and it was making it harder for the fines to stick via the internal appeals process.

Of course, the addition of the word “forcible” will give players a different defense. The league apparently thinks it will be easier to show that a player made a forcible blow with the helmet than it was to prove that the player had initiated the contact.

It’s possible that many players have been fined for violating this rule since its inception four years ago. The NFL does not announce the weekly fines imposed on players. Instead, the league will respond to specific questions about specific fines that were or weren’t imposed on specific players. If no flag is thrown for lowering the helmet, it requires reporters to watch every snap of every game and search for instances of a player potentially violating the rule.

The league no longer has to do that. It uses an artificial intelligence program developed with Amazon to identify all instances of player helmets making contact with anything. Starting this year, the league no longer has the added burden of showing that such contact was initiated by the player who is fined.

    Im getting even more confused!

I thought you were supposed to lower the shoulder to make a football play and tackle 'through' a person. If im not mistaken, when you lower a shoulder, your head comes down to, thanks to a little thing called the neck. Ive no idea where this is headed (see what I did there).

    Can you say... Flag Football?

Nope, the adage goes, head up, shoulder down. Obviously the head gets lower as the shoulder gets lower, but liken it to your eyes.. if you are looking at the ground, you are doing it wrong. If you can still see the opponents chest, you are doing it right. As the eyes go down the head drops significantly regardless of your shoulders.

I made a lot of tackles in my football life and I only had one missed tackle, the secret is what Lyman said right here. The only reason I missed the tackle was that they ran a fake punt and I was trying to block the punt and ran by the guy with the ball so fast that I could barely get two fingers on his jersey, it felt like it was going to catch but just couldn’t hang on.

Report: N’Keal Harry ankle injury appears to be severe

Wide receiver N'Keal Harry‘s bid for a fresh start with the Bears has hit a snag.

Harry injured his ankle in Saturday’s practice and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the injury appears to be a severe one. He will be undergoing further evaluation to confirm the initial read.

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus is not scheduled to speak to reporters until Tuesday, so the wait for official word on his status might have to wait until that point.

Harry was traded to the Bears by the Patriots for a seventh-round pick last month. Harry was a 2018 first-round pick, but has underwhelmed with 57 catches for 598 yards and four touchdowns to this point in his career.

Miami's 'fierce' RB competition still unresolved

The Dolphins have a full stable of running backs thanks to the return of Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed and the free-agent acquisitions of Sony Michel, Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert. The names promise to provide Miami with impressive depth, but there isn't a bell-cow among them, which means a competition to get first crack at the top of the lineup remains in full swing. Head coach Mike McDaniel is pleased with how things have shaken out thus far. "I'm very, very happy with that room," McDaniel told reporters Sunday. "It's one of my favorite rooms I've been around. The competition is fierce, but they're bringing the best out of each other. They get along. … They want to win the job. They don't want to be given it at the expense of someone else." As for McDaniel's process in carving out the RB depth chart, the first-year coach has stressed the importance of keeping an eye on only the year at hand. "I don't want to limit an opportunity by having a preconceived notion," he said. "There's guys that really got our running scheme early, maybe that have more history in it. But you don't shortchange the process of learning, nor do you really allow yourself to get ahead and predict the future." That means a player like Mostert, who spent the last five years with McDaniel in San Francisco, has the same position at the starting line as the rest of them.

Vikings lining Justin Jefferson up everywhere

Wide receiver Justin Jefferson recently made waves by comparing himself to the reigning AP Offensive Player of the Year, Cooper Kupp, but there's a reason the third-year veteran has been paying special attention to the Rams wideout. Rapoport reported on Inside Training Camp Live that head coach Kevin O'Connell, who served as Los Angeles' offensive coordinator last year, has been employing Jefferson in similar fashion to Kupp throughout the early stages of training camp. The Vikings have lined him up everywhere -- inside and out -- in an effort to exploit the defense. Rapoport also reported that Jefferson came into camp lighter and more explosive than in years past. Essentially, Jefferson is going to play the Kupp role while stacking deep-threat capability on top of it. Good luck.

Daboll to play full team in preseason opener

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced Sunday that he expects to be playing everyone who's healthy in the team's first preseason game, which will take place Aug. 11 versus the Patriots. While many teams choose to sit out some of their starting players so as not to expose them to too much wear and tear in the preseason, Daboll said you just can't simulate playing in a real game during practice, and it'll be more helpful for the team to get the additional reps. New York is still a new team, so the players need the live reps to get used to the new communication style and adjust to working with each other. For a team that's suffered through many injuries in recent years, it'll be interesting to see how this decision plays out.

Raiders have no plans to trade Josh Jacobs

The Las Vegas Raiders' opening drives of Thursday's Hall of Fame Game set off alarm bells when incumbent starting RB Josh Jacobs collected seven touches over multiple series. The unusually heavy usage, coupled with a new regime turning down Jacobs' fifth-year option, raised questions about the Pro Bowler's future. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, however, Las Vegas is not trying to trade Jacobs and has no plans to do so. Rapoport's reporting confirmed coach Josh McDaniels' explanation following the game that he wants his players -- especially running backs -- to take live hits that cannot be replicated during practice. With Jacobs apparently slated to stay in Sin City, the Raiders will employ a trio of him, Kenyan Drake and fourth-round rookie Zamir White.

    Youth movement underway for Chiefs

The Chiefs are already seeing dividends from their two first-round rookies. NFL Network's James Palmer reported on the team's opinion regarding cornerback Trent McDuffie's football intelligence, saying, "There are moments in individual periods or 7-on-7 where obviously he has a lapse or rookie moment and he makes a mistake, but the best part about Trent McDuffie is those don't happen during team periods. He has such a high IQ. He is so instinctive that during team periods we see him play his best football, and that's very encouraging to them as a defense." Fellow first-rounder George Karlaftis has also shown the ability to soak up knowledge. "They believe he is a sponge," Palmer said during Inside Training Camp Live on Sunday. "He is asking everybody. Texting (defensive coordinator) Steve Spagnuolo at night about different things throughout training camp trying to learn as much as he can." The man expected to set the tone for everyone and incorporate the two rookies into the defense is second-year linebacker Nick Bolton, who led Kansas City in tackles last year. Bolton will be counted on alongside safety Juan Thornhill to fill the leadership void left by Tyrann Mathieu. According to Palmer, it's "his defense."
