A fan has to fan. lol!

Amen on the health concerns. Injuries derailed things for both our teams last year.

We have some dynamic duo's on the roster in Cleveland....

    Which is the best tandem?

OG- Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller
RB- Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt
DE- Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney
CB- Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome
OT- Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin

Wow, that is a tougher call than I thought it would be…

For the sake of narrowing it down, I’m going to eliminate Wills and Conklin. We need Conklin healthy.

Damn. I didn't realize how many good tandems y'all have. I'd remove Ward and Newsome though. They aren't on the level of the others

Ward and Newsome are one of my top in this list.

You seriously missed the boat on this one. Hunt and Chubb could be one of the all time top five RB tandems in NFL history. The two CBS aren’t even close to the top 25 all time.

You go from 0-60 in two posts. When did the discussion go from current Browns tandems to top 25 tandems of all time??

I said they were one of the top on this list, not THE top.

You are the one missing out.. on the conversation in general.

For the record, Chubb and Hunt haven’t beaten Brown and Green or Mack and Byner for top RB tandem in Browns history… yet..let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

But we do agree they are the top tandem on this list, it goes without argument. That just wasn’t the conversation.

When it is stated they should be removed from the list, that is where my statement came from.

    personally my order would go:
    Chubb-Hunt
    Ward-Newsome
    Garrett-Clowney
    Bitonio-Teller
    Wills-Conklin

Regardless, all 5 would be arguable as top 3 of their position groups in the NFL.

Chubb and Hunt WIN their position group.

I think it's one of the best CB tandems in the league...

    My list;
    1. Chubb/Hunt
    2. Bitonio/Teller
    (tie) Garrett/Clowney
    4. Ward/Newsome
    5. Wills/Conklin

    Agreed.

This is why I have hope even without Watson.

Three of those combos will be in the huddle with our QB, and the other two combos will be getting the ball back momentarily.

Big Surprise !!! I'm going with a slightly different take on this.

My #1 tandem is Bitonio & Teller. BOTH started all 17 games in 2021 and NEITHER missed a single snap. They're a big reason Chubb & Hunt (et. al.) have the success they're having.

    You forgot Watson and Mayfield.

The reason I said I'd remove them is that I don't think there's an argument that either are top 5 at their position. Meanwhile an argument can be made for a player in every other tandem. I definitely don't think they are top 3 CB tandem in the NFL either. This isn't to say they are a bad starting two.

I feel this comment was made in jest, but they probably would be a top 2 QB tandem, if that was a thing

Ward is definitely in the conversation for top 5 CB in the league.

Newsome was top ten single coverage CB in the NFL… as a rookie.

I think you might be underestimating them.

I also know this was in jest, but hard to rank a guy who didn’t play a snap last year and most likely won’t again this year..

I'm now curious as to who your top 5 CBs are. I couldn't put Ward above Ramsey, Alexander, Humphrey, Howard or Gilmore.

It is hard to put together a top 5 CB list. It is more like a top 10-12 CB list that are all arguably the best at any given point of a season... CB is a rare position in which if you just look at stats, you will miss the boat. Some weeks defensive coordinators don't value scheming away and that is where the best pick up their stats, but it seems inconsistent when the next week all they get is a single tackle and one pass breakup... In most cases, that's because the team DID decide to scheme away from that guy that week. That happens a lot with Ward, just like it does with the guys on your "top 5 list".

Don't take my word for it though, when you posed the question, I figured someone out there was probably doing the same thing we are here and this popped up pretty quick:

Ranking the top 10 cornerback duos in the NFL for the 2022 season

NFL CB duo no. 2: Cleveland Browns – Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome

The Cleveland Browns have to be absolutely thrilled about their cornerback duo right now.

Denzel Ward has been an exceptional pick for this team, even after a lot of questions about whether he was the right pick at the time over former NC State pass rusher Bradley Chubb.

This offseason, the Browns proved they made the right choice by giving Ward a five-year contract worth more than $100 million.

In four NFL seasons, Ward has 10 interceptions and 50 passes broken up, but more than just statistical production, he has proven himself more than worthy of potential overall CB1 status across the NFL.

Ward is simply too fast, too athletic, too instinctive, and too technically sound to be beaten on a consistent basis.

Quarterbacks don’t want to throw his way, so they tested rookie Greg Newsome II in his rookie season out of Northwestern.

That didn’t go a lot better.

Newsome had nine passes broken up in his rookie year for the Browns, playing in 12 games.

If the Browns can get a fully healthy year out of these two players, they might end up taking over the number one spot as the best and most dominant cornerback duo in the game today.

Both of these guys are fast, explosive, and they know how to make plays on the ball.

Expect a lot more turnovers created by the Browns defense because of these two guys in 2022.

    1. Packers - Jaire Alexander -Eric Stokes - Rasul Douglas
    3. Rams - Jalen Ramsey - Troy Hill
    4. Dolphins - Xavien Howard - Byron Jones
    5. Falcons - AJ Terrell, Casey Howard
    6. Chargers - JC Jackson - Asante Samuel Jr.
    7. Broncos - Patrick Surtain II - Ronald Darby
    8. Ravens - Marlon Humphrey - Marcus Peters
    9. Colts - Stephon Gilmore - Kenny Moore II
    10. Eagles - Darius Slay - James Bradbury

Again, these aren't my rankings, they are an outside source... But proves my point that the rankings are in the eyes of the beholder and my ranking of Ward/Newsome as the second best tandem on the Browns is a valid opinion. Doesn't make it any more valid than anyone else' opinion, but it is valid.
