Wide receiver Dede Westbrook appeared in 15 games for the Vikings last season and he may be back with Minnesota soon. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Westbrook is working out for the team on Tuesday. Rapoport adds that other teams have shown interest in the wideout and he’s likely to sign with someone in the next few days. Westbrook caught 10 passes for 68 yards for the Vikings last season. He also averaged 8.3 yards on 22 punt returns and was credited with one tackle. The Vikings have Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and K.J. Osborn at the top of the receiver depth chart. If Westbrook signs, he’ll join Bisi Johnson, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, and sixth-round pick Jalen Nailor in bids for depth roles in Minnesota. PFT
The Vikings have agreed to terms free agent receiver Albert Wilson on a one-year contract, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Wilson and Dede Westbrook worked out for the team Tuesday. Wilson, 29, spent the past three seasons with the Dolphins. He played 14 games last season, seeing action on 361 offensive snaps (38 percent of the team’s snaps for the season). He caught 25 passes for 213 yards in 2021. Wilson spent his first four seasons with the Chiefs before landing in Miami. In his career, Wilson has 218 receptions for 2,499 yards and 12 touchdowns. He joins Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, K.J. Osborn, Bisi Johnson, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Dan Chisena, Trishton Jackson, Myron Mitchell, Thomas Hennigan, Jalen Nailor and Blake Proehl in the Vikings’ receivers room. PFT
When he has gotten the chance he's been ok under Mike Zimmer not many players really got a chance...But some did it was confusing at times
The Minnesota Vikings have been dealt an early blow with second-year wideout Ihmir Smith-Marsette being knocked out of the rest of the spring practices with a lower-leg injury. According to coach Kevin O’Connell, per the Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson, Smith-Marsette suffered the injury at a recent practice. It’s a disappointing turn of events for the former fifth-round draft pick, who is expecting to build on the flashes he showed as a rookie in 2021. The hope now for the team is to have him back on the field at some point in the summer. There truly aren’t a lot of spring practices left with organized team activities winding down and mandatory veteran minicamp right around the corner. The Vikings recently had veteran receiver Dede Westbrook in for a visit on Tuesday, and after he reportedly turned down a contract offer, they pounced on an opportunity to sign former Miami Dolphins wideout Albert Wilson. Smith-Marsette was fourth on the depth chart behind Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen and K.J. Osborn. The Athletic’s Chad Graff claimed the Vikings’ belief in his talent and development was one of the reasons why they didn’t take a receiver with one of their top picks in the 2022 NFL draft. There’s still plenty of time between now and training camp for Smith-Marsette to hopefully heal up and get back on the field. In the meantime, Wilson will slot in nicely as the fourth option in one of the league’s most formidable receiving corps. VIKINGS WIRE
Not good news at all... Smith-Marsette was going to be a key depth piece, but hopefully he recovers well.
Vikings Add Jonathan Bullard to Roster EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings added depth to the interior of their defensive line Thursday. Minnesota announced that it has signed with defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard, who has played in 70 career games with 15 career starts over six pro seasons. Bullard could offer position flexibility along the line of scrimmage for Minnesota. The Vikings are now running a 3-4 defensive scheme, so they might have Bullard work as a defensive tackle or defensive end that would be inside the edge rushers. The 28-year-old Bullard most recently spent the 2021 season with Atlanta, where here played in nine games with four starts. Originally a 2016 third-round pick by the Bears, Bullard spent the first three seasons of his career in Chicago. He played in 46 games for Minnesota's division rival, starting five games and registering a pair of sacks and a forced fumble. Bullard spent 2019 with Arizona, where he registered a career-high 1.5 sacks before spending the 2020 season on Seattle's active roster and practice squad. Overall, Bullard has 3.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss and five passes defensed in his career. The Vikings waived DE Kenny Willekes to keep their roster at 90 players. VIKINGS.com
Christian Watson he's having a little problem with dropped balls over in Green Bay...looks like the Vikings front office might have gotten one over on Green Bay
You know who else had a REALLY bad time with dropped balls, in training camp AND pre-season? Ja'Marr Chase. Many were calling him a bust before he ever laced up a sneaker for a game that counts.
Im afraid, Watson is going to be someone special. Just hope he doesnt do special things against Minnesota. In my opinion, he'll be alright... unfortunately.
Under new Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell, the 37-year-old has been installing an offense that the franchise hopes will elevate a unit that has been just above average in recent years. "We had an old-style offense last year," Jefferson said. "It's 2022. You get into a new age and move to a new generation. Adding new things to the offense definitely allows us to be more comfortable with the offense and work in different areas of the fields." Jefferson expects more looks with three-plus receivers or extra tight ends, which could help free running back Dalvin Cook, who has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of the last three seasons. Minnesota's offense is also expected to spread the field more and become "less predictable," which should be good news for all involved parties.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen (ankle), who had season-ending ankle surgery last year, feels "rejuvenated" coming off his injury while playing under new head coach Kevin O'Connell. Thielen played in only 13 games in 2021, catching 67 of his 95 targets for 726 yards and 10 touchdowns, his second straight year with double-digit scores. The veteran pass-catcher has been on the field for organized team activities and said his ankle "is great." The 31-year-old will once again start alongside All-Pro wideout Justin Jefferson in an offense that could be much more dynamic under O'Connell. While Thielen hasn't surpassed 1,000 yards receiving since 2018, he should be a solid source of receptions in PPR leagues and could continue to dominate in the red zone.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
Well Ja"Marr turned out to be a stud player just hope Christian Watson is not another stud wide receiver Aaron Rodgers has s way of making wide receivers look good
Only reason I AM hoping Watson turns out special is that I drafted him in a Dynasty fantasy league, lol. Hard to say until the games count. Anything before that doesn't matter.
