Come on now, Lamar didn't get MVP for 2020, which is the season we're discussing. Lamar's MVP season beats out his 2020 season by a wide margin

You didn't bother to research this.
Stanley - Played 30% of the Ravens snaps, missed 10 full games
    Bozeman and Brown were good.
Skura was not which is why the team let him go after 2020. That plus his multiple bad snaps eventually got Lamar concussed.
Yanda - Not sure how well he blocked for Lamar in 2020, considering he was retired

Yes, it was a bad o-line, and it's not something you can argue since you clearly don't remember who was there or how they played.

This would all be relevant if we were:
    1. Talking about 2019
    2. Had the same Ravens o-line in 2020 that was here in 2019

    Back to you Irish

Welp, I'm going to because it was without a doubt because of Jackson. The Ravens RBs benefitted greatly from Lamar Jackson running. This isn't even debatable. Defense have to commit a defender to him which takes one away from going after the RB when he hands off. When they don't full on commit a defender, the defenders still have to make split second decisions on whether Lamar kept the ball or not. Lamar is flat out the catalyst for the run game. Hell, in 2018 the Ravens were dead last in rushing after 9, then Lamar got the start. They ended #1 that season. Sorry, hate it or not, Lamar makes a huge difference
Huh?? So a top 1 o-line, top 1 RB tandem, and top 10 WRs weren't enough? Baker also needed a top 3 TE in order to player at a top end level? Well, that probably explains why nobody has picked him up. Nobody has that.

The discussion was Lamar's 2019 season vs. Baker's 2020 season...

My bad RR... This is what I was basing it on, which I mis-read...

I now see it says "lets look ate Lamar in the same seasons "COMING OFF HIS MVP YEAR"..

    My mistake..

No problem, Irish. Your post makes a lot more sense now that I know you arguing a different year. I just thought you were reaching.......or :smokey:

He will not be on the roster when we get to training camp. Just won't. If you think he won't be cut okay I can buy that but there are other options. They could pick up a percentage of the contract to get the deal done. Eating 10M is better than eating 18M.

Well we'll just have to disagree on this. Baker's 4th quarter numbers are bad. He's had minimal comeback victories. The analytics put up by RR show him near the bottom of the league in obvious passing situations. By any metric, his success has come off the running game.

If he was a legitimate franchise QB they wouldn't worry about the extension. They have the franchise tag. It's 29M this year. Even if it's 32-33M next year that's well below franchise QB pay.

I don't understand this thought process. The guy has been around for four years, inured in one. And it was his opposite shoulder. He's put more than enough on tape to gauge his market value. This is what I mean when I saying doing cartwheels.

It's pretty damn easy. You can do it with film. You can do it with analytics. I've been doing it for 4 years. Undersized, one read QB. Nice ball fake, can move outside the pocket. Doesn't read defenses well. Inconsistent ball placement. Stares down receivers allowing defenders at line of scrimmage block passing lanes. Ultra competitive, to his detriment. Thinks he's much better than he is.

    Nope, he's done in Cleveland.

I don't know if desperate is the right word but they definitely understand they are in a tough spot and they are not bringing this guy to training camp. That doesn't mean they have to eat the entire deal. But they will have to eat some of it if they want to get a deal done. At this point I think you're looking at a conditional 6th and Cleveland eats 10M of the 18M. I think they would do that deal tomorrow.

I don't. If we were thinking that low, it would have been done by now.

Another factor playing into this that could be holding up the works is the fact that Baker is rehabbing a shoulder injury right now, and wouldn't be able to practice at any of these OTA's anyway. That could be what AB was referencing with the "holding pattern" comment.

Just saw on Steeler depot that the Seahawks and Panthers are both still interested in mayfield but they want the Browns to take the majority of the salary. The Browns aren’t spending the cap money anyway so they should eat his salary and get some draft capital.

The Browns don't have many 2023 impact draft picks. So, if they have gaps to fill next year (and they will), they will be forced to go free agency or trade a high dollar, high performing player for picks.

    - OR -

Carry over as much of their 2020 salary cap as they can. Any amount a team trading for Mayfield pays goes directly to cap savings this year and increases the potential cap carryover for next year. I would be disappointed if Berry doesn't have a target number for 2023 cap carryover that was derived in part from the cap savings obtained via a Mayfield trade.

    Depends on the draft capital..

Regardless of the expert that Beach is, they are now saying it is very possible the NFL suspends Watson for the majority of the 2022 season. If that happens, I’m sure Andrew Berry would rather have Baker Mayfield than Jacoby Brissett. They may now wait until the NFL gives their decision.

If a fair offer is made, then it will happen, but they aren’t trading him for a 6th rounder and eating $13M of $18M.

Browns open the season at Carolina so you can bet Seattle is their destination of choice, unless the Panthers' offer is just flat out better. Imagine that storyline for the whole preseason leading up to week 1. Baker winning, or Cleveland making Baker look terrible would both lead to a ton of "I told you so".

This is something I've been working on for quite some time (about 60 years). I have seen every one of these guys play. Don't get too hung up on RG vs LG, ILB vs OLB, etc. I tried to include only those players that spent the majority of their careers with the Browns.

Feel free to suggest anyone I may have excluded.

Good list Lyman. Chubb needs to be on it.

I thought about it. Just couldn't pull the trigger to displace one of the three RB's listed when they have a combined 15 1st team All-Pro honors all earned when the entire NFL was built to stop the run.

    Nice work. I like it..

One exclusion that would definitely be in there for me would be Frank Minniefield.

    This is a cool thread.

I will never forget 'the drive' ... its etched in my memory, heartbreaking at the same time.

Back in the day, when i was a kid, all we got in Toledo Ohio was the Browns and Lions, with occasional other national games. I always rooted for the Browns. They were and still are my fav AFC team.
