Brand new season. We got the goods - one of the top rotations in all of MLB, effective BP, good bats. Now all we need is the D to do its part. Roll Tribe!
I feel like a turd for quoting myself but wow. I didn't quite plan on it being this good *DANCE* If he isn't in a Tribe jersey for at least another 10-12 years I'll be upset
The Cleveland Indians starting in 2022, will be known as the Gaurdians. The franchise made that announcement with a video narrated by Tom Hanks, whose first professional job was in Cleveland at the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival. “We protect what we’ve earned and always defend it,” Hanks says in the video. “Together we stand with all who understand what it means to be born and built from The Land. Because this is a city we love and the game we believe in. And together, we are all Cleveland Guardians.” The name is partially a reference to the Guardian statues that can be seen on the Hope Memorial Bridge, which is just a short distance away from the franchise’s home stadium, Progressive Field. The David Blitzer sale to happen quickly. In 2018, Cleveland carried a $135 million payroll and won its third straight AL Central title. In 2022, the Guardians are projected to have a $46 million payroll. Owner Paul Dolan is in talks to sell a large minority stake in the franchise to Blitzer , who has ownership stakes in the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL's New Jersey Devils, and the expectation is the deal will include a path to majority ownership. The sooner Blitzer takes over, the better for fans and the better for the franchise, because it's pretty obvious winning isn't the top priority for the current owner. Pandemic or no pandemic, chopping $90 million -- $90 million! -- off payroll in four years is straight up embarrassing.
How much of a 'minority owner' difference will it make on spending in Free Agency? Isnt this just a move to fill a void after Sherman left?
Not sure it will have any effect until Dolan sells the majority share (or cashes out). Think he’s getting on in years and is “estate planning” at this point. Will still follow his modus operandi in the meantime.
Holy shit! Josh Naylor just had one of the most amazing games I've ever seen in my life! UNBELIEVABLE!!! That is why I love baseball. OMG!! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it Southside...
