Hi all... apologies for the VERY late post, but hey, this year's mock draft was a last minute rush job, so why should the Draft Value Challenge game be any different? Three experimental games to try out this year, with one that will be in play (mostly, at least) in each day of the television coverage: PICK SIX SCRABBLE: you pick six numbers in the 1-20 range. You get the players that are drafted in those spots in the first round (tonight, so make your entries quickly). Your score is the total Scrabble score for the names of those players. We'll use the NFL.COM draft tracker as the official reference for the names. (Jr or III included. III is three letter i"s. If a middle initial is given, it goes with the first name. If only initials are given for the first name, that's what we use - we go by what's on the tracking page.) Choose any one of your six picks for a Double Word score for the first name and one for a Double Word score on the last name. You may choose the same one for both Double Word scores if you like. Your entry would look something like this: Big Jim Slade: 2, 3, 4, 8, 15, 16 first name 2, last name 3 DRAFT VALUE CHALLENGE, regular version: Look at the results of our mock draft (in a spreadsheet in the next message). Take the last five players we picked in the second round and the first five we picked in the third round (60-69 overall). Decide if you think each pick will RISE (will be chosen in the real draft earlier than where we mocked them) or FALL (will be chosen later than where we mocked them). Scoring: if you pick a guy to rise and you're right, +2 for each spot that he rises. If wrong, -1 for each spot that he falls. If you pick a guy to fall and you're right, +1 for each spot that he falls, and -2 for each spot if he rises. Maximum points = +/- 50 per player EXCEPT maximum of +136 for picking a riser who rises (I'm absolutely firm on that number for the max. Don't ask me to let it go higher than +136...) (If anyone's wondering or even cares, it's 2 points for rise because we're closer to the beginning of the draft so rising is harder/less room for big scores.) Your entry would look something like this: Leeroy Jenkins: Rise: 60, 62, 66, 69 Fall: 61, 63, 64, 65, 67, 68 IRON MAN DRAFT VALUE CHALLENGE: (Something extra for the true draftaholics who want more More MORE or for anyone who just wants something / ANYTHING to help make Day 3 of the TV coverage a little easier to take) Look at Round 5 of our mock (see the spreadsheet in the next message and click the Round 5 tab). Like the regular Draft Value Challenge game, take the first 20 picks that we made in round five and decide if you think they'll go earlier (rise) in the real draft or later (fall) than where we picked them. +1 for each spot they rise or fall if you're right, -1 for each spot if you're wrong. Maximum +/- 100 for each player. Your entry would look something like this: Johnny Utah: Rise: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 Fall: 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 Please post your entries here. Definitely get the Scrabble ones in before the first pick is announced tonight. If you're still working on the other two during the start of the broadcast tonight, I'm cool with that. (It's not like our choices for round five will be going in the top 10 picks tonight anyway.) If you already posted your entries for the value challenges in the mock draft thread, I already have them. Repost them here if you like so everyone can see them, but you don't have to if you don't want to. Hopefully these will be fun for everyone.
Here are the results of our mock for reference. Click the Round 2 and Round 3 tabs to see our picks for 60-69 and the Round 5 tab to see who we took for 5-1 through 5-20.

my own entry for the regular DVC: Rise = 62 65 66 68 69 Fall = 60 61 63 64 67 Iron Man - just for fun I'll stick with what I posted in the mock draft thread.

Looks like it''s just you vs Bride Of Torgo in the Scrabble game. (I'm disqualifying myself because I didn't post in time. But I'll post hers.)
My wife wouldn't know a single player in this draft but she loves Keno, so I asked her to pick six numbers. She said 7, 9, 13, 17, 23, 25, and when I said just 1-20 she went with 3 and 5 instead of 23 and 25. She picked 7 for the double word first name and 3 for double word last name.
Copied from the other thread for ease. Looking good so far. RicoL8's entry: Risers: 60, 65, 66, 67, 68 Fallers: 61, 62, 63, 64, 69 Unintentional 50/50 split
Well, if we go for a golf style (lower is better) Scrabble game, LAOJoe's score would be hard to beat. Lowest possible = 109. LAOJoe = 140. The top 20 picks had a 22.75 average, so par would be 22.75 x 7 = 159.25. My wife's Keno numbers scored 180. Wow... Just for fun... who can guess my strategy? My choices were 4, 8, 15, 16, 2, 3, double first = 4, double last = 2
For anyone who didn't get the pop culture reference, LeeRoy Jenkins was from a (staged but hilarious) viral video. No one has picked up on my strategy for my choices yet (4, 8, 15, 16, 2, 3, double first = 4, double last = 2), but I think that reference should be pretty easy. It's a LOT more recent than Big Jim Slade and a whole lot less obscure than Robert Muldoon.
