Terrell Edmunds re-signing with Steelers Safety Terrell Edmunds will be sticking with the Steelers. The Steelers declined to exercise their option on Edmunds’ contract for this season, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports the two sides have agreed on a new pact. It’s a one-year deal for Edmunds. Edmunds was a 2018 first-round pick by Pittsburgh and he’s spent most of his four years with the team as a member of the starting lineup. He has 340 tackles, five interceptions, three sacks, and a fumble recovery in his 64 regular season appearances. Edmunds also has 12 tackles in two playoff contests. Word this month was that the Steelers have interest in free agent safety Tyrann Mathieu for the right price. Edmunds’ return may indicate that Mathieu is going to eventually sign elsewhere before the 2022 season. PFT
The Giants are trying to trade receiver Kadarius Toney, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. The team has made calls to see what they can get for the 2021 first-round choice, per Leonard. Toney has opted not to take part in the team’s voluntary offseason program under new coach Brian Daboll, which could serve as the last straw for the Giants. According to Leonard, “There was some internal momentum for bailing on Toney during his tumultuous rookie season a year ago. His commitment came into question behind the scenes during his rookie year due to lack of playbook study, poor meeting behavior and frequent injuries.” Toney had foot issues that limited his work in the spring after a late start due to a delay in signing his contract. He then dealt with COVID-19 and a hamstring injury during training camp. Toney expressed frustration with a limited role early in the regular season before missing six of the final seven games with another bout of COVID, an oblique injury and a shoulder injury. He was ejected from a loss to the Cowboys for throwing a punch. It added up to a disappointing and frustrating rookie season for both the wideout and the team. Toney, 23, made 39 catches for 420 yards and no touchdowns last season. PFT
Tampa has signed DT Deadrin Senat, a former Atlanta 3rd round pick that for whatever reason never saw real playing time in ATL under Dan Quinn. He got banged up and put on IR in training camp last year (with the new coaching staff), but the team opted to release him after he was medically cleared rather than keep him on the roster. I'll be rooting for him to turn it around and show a new team what he can do - even for a division rival.
Bears wide receiver Byron Pringle was arrested on Saturday in Florida. Pringle was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol for doing doughnuts on a public road, while driving on a suspended license, with a child in his car, according to TMZ.com. He was charged with reckless driving and driving on a suspended license, according to the report. The 28-year-old Pringle played for the Chiefs from 2018 to 2021. He signed a one-year contract with the Bears last month. PFT
Get him the fuck off my team. The kid in the car is what does it for me - be stupid on your own time. Give that kid a chance at a decent future, before you teach them to do dumb shit.
John Lynch: I can’t ever imagine moving on from Deebo Samuel All indications are that Deebo Samuel isn’t interested in working things out with the 49ers. The All-Pro receiver recently asked for a trade. The 49ers, on the other hand, don’t seem interested in trading Samuel. On Monday, General Manager John Lynch initially said he wasn’t “going to talk about that much” about Samuel because he didn’t think it was productive. He then talked about Samuel. The team has been in contact with Samuel the past two weeks, Lynch said, and the 49ers are “confident we can find the solutions to work through whatever is going on.” They have had some receiver prospects visit the team facility, but they plan on keeping Samuel regardless what they do in the draft. “I can’t ever imagine wanting to move on from Deebo,” Lynch said. “You put yourself through the exercises. Even though we don’t have a first-round pick, you have to be thorough in this process and prepare for everything, so you go through and do that. He’s just too good of a player. “I think of 2019, that 36th pick, to come up with someone like Deebo, who has just been a game-changing player for our franchise. I told Deebo this: I think he’s the perfect illustration Herman Edwards used to talk about, when will meets skill, you’ve got the opportunity to be special. I think Deebo probably embodies that as much as anyone. He’s got tremendous will. He’s a very talented player. I think by virtual of the way he plays, it’s inspiring, so to me, that entails leadership. Do you make people around you better? He checks that box. He’s a great teammate. I think of things like prior to games, I get out there, and he’s always throwing the ball with the fans. I think he’s been a great member of our community. So, we’ve got nothing but love for him and nothing but appreciation for what he’s brought, but you just don’t let guys like that walk. I can’t envision a scenario where we would.” Samuel had 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns last season, and he added a passing touchdown. He is due a big (BIG!) raise over the $4.89 million he is scheduled to make in the final year of his rookie deal. PFT
Report: Giants looking to trade Darius Slayton Kadarius Toney‘s name surfaced as a trade candidate last week and he’s not the only Giants wideout to find himself mentioned in relation to a trip out of town. Dan Duggan of TheAthletic.com reports that the team has been shopping Darius Slayton. Slayton saw his salary rise from $920,000 to $2.5 million because of performance escalators and the Giants are tight enough against the cap that they’re looking at all ways to shed salary. Slayton was a 2019 fifth-round pick and he has 124 catches for 1,830 yards and 13 touchdowns in 43 career games. Toney reported to the team’s offseason workout program for the first time on Monday, which may have been a response to the trade reports that surfaced around the 2021 first-round pick. If that makes Toney likelier to stick around, it could also work to make a Slayton trade more desirable for the Giants. PFT
Melvin Gordon re-signing with Broncos on one-year deal Melvin Gordon had 203 carries for 918 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Javonte Williams had 203 carries for 903 yards and four touchdowns. The duo will be together again in 2022 on the new-look Broncos. The Broncos are re-signing Gordon to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million, according to multiple reports. Gordon, 29, recently visited the Ravens. He had 478 touches for 2,275 yards and 20 touchdowns the past two seasons with the Broncos. He spent his first five seasons with the Chargers, twice earning Pro Bowl honors. Gordon played with Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson at Wisconsin in 2011. Gordon had only 20 carries in his freshman season, which was Wilson’s final college season. PFT
Falcons plan on using Cordarrelle Patterson in “a lot of spots” In his first five seasons, Cordarrelle Patterson was a core special teams player and a part-time receiver. Only once from 2013-17 did he play more than 50 percent of his team’s offensive snaps, and he had 44 rushing attempts and 163 receptions. Then, the Patriots got the bright idea to use Patterson more as a running back than a receiver. The past four seasons, playing for three different teams, Patterson has 276 rushes and 105 receptions. Of Patterson’s 320 career carries, 153 came last season. He also led the team in receiving touchdowns with a career-high five. With the Falcons lacking a true No. 1 wideout, Patterson could see more time at receiver this season. “Appreciate what CP did for us last year [and] what he’s gonna do for us in the future,” Falcons coach Arthur Smith said, via Kris Rhim of the team website. “He’s gonna move around at a lot of spots.” Patterson re-signed with the Falcons after 618 yards and six touchdowns rushing, 548 yards and five touchdowns receiving and 18 kickoff returns for 434 yards. He also played two snaps on defense. PFT
Lions exercise T.J. Hockenson’s fifth-year option The Lions aren’t in any hurry to part ways with tight end T.J. Hockenson. The team announced on Tuesday that they have exercised their option on Hockenson’s contract. Hockenson was the eighth overall pick in 2019 and now has a guaranteed salary of $9.392 million for his fifth NFL season. Hockenson ended last season on injured reserve because of a thumb injury and also had his rookie year cut short by an ankle injury. He caught 160 passes for 1,673 yards and 12 touchdowns in his first three seasons. Monday is the deadline for teams to exercise their options on their 2019 first-round picks. Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver, and Panthers defensive end Brian Burns have also had their options executed this week. PFT
Jaguars, Cam Robinson agree to long-term contract Jaguars offensive tackle Cam Robinson has a deal in place to remain in Jacksonville for the long term. Robinson and the Jaguars have reached an agreement in principle on a contract extension, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. There had been some talk that the Jaguars were planning to draft his replacement tomorrow night by spending the first overall pick in the NFL draft on either Alabama tackle Evan Neal or North Carolina State offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu. That possibility may have motivated Robinson to agree to a deal before the draft. The Jaguars placed the franchise tag on Robinson and he signed it, meaning he would have played this season for a guaranteed salary of $16.662 million. But the long-term deal will surely give Robinson a much bigger guarantee than that, while also guaranteeing the Jaguars that they’ll have Robinson protecting Trevor Lawrence for years to come. PFT
Darren Waller: “There’s no trade that’s going to happen” A recent report suggested that the Raiders may trade tight end Darren Waller to the Packers. In response, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said there’s “no chance” that will happen. Appearing Wednesday night on CBS Sports Radio with Zach Gelb, Waller basically said the same thing. “I’ve had talks with the team, and they said this is not a thing that’s happening,” Waller said. “There’s no trade that’s going to happen.” That’s as clear as it gets. So if there were any trade talks, it sounds as if those talks have ended and Waller will stay with the Raiders. That said, we know by now how fluid the NFL can be. If, for example, the Packers are unable to get the pass catchers they’re targeting in the 2022 draft, maybe they come calling again. If they were even calling in the first place. PFT

Jon Robinson on A.J. Brown trade: We got to a point where it was going to be hard to get a deal done The Titans didn’t envision trading A.J. Brown. It was only three weeks ago that Mike Vrabel declared that the star receiver wasn’t going on the trade block “as long as I’m head coach.” On Thursday night, the Titans traded Brown to the Eagles. General Manager Jon Robinson said the trade came together in the last 18-20 hours after the Titans realized they couldn’t “bridge the gap” with Brown’s representation. Soon after the trade was announced, Brown had a four-year, $100 million extension with $57 million guaranteed. “The decision we made today, it was a tough one,” Robinson said, via Jim Wyatt of the team website. “We really appreciate what A.J. has done here for our football team, on the field and in the community. We had discussions back and forth and we realized we got to the point where it was going to be hard to get a deal done (to keep him). So, the trade thing kind of manifested.” The Titans drafted Brown in 2019, and his contract was scheduled to expire after the 2022 season. He had not been participating in the team’s offseason program as he awaited a long-term deal. Brown joins Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill and Marquise Brown as another big-name receiver traded this offseason. “These are the decisions I am faced with, and they are hard decisions,” Robison said. “There’s a lot of discussion that goes into them, a lot of thought that goes into them. At the end of the day, we have to make – I have to make – the hard decisions. And there’s a lot of things that impact those decisions. Certainly, the finances impact the decisions and trying to get value when we can. And that’s the decision we made today.” Brown ends his career in Tennessee with 185 receptions for 2,995 yards and 24 touchdowns. In 2021, Brown caught 63 passes for 869 yards and five scores. “I love all of our players – I love A.J. personally,” Vrabel said. “I know how Jon feels about him. But I am very comfortable with how this went down and how Jon and I were able to navigate. I try to support him and make decisions. Unfortunately, we understand if we are going to be here a while, we are not going to be able to keep every single player that we draft and develop.” NBC
Ravens trade WR Marquise Brown to Cardinals for first-round draft pick The Baltimore Ravens are getting busy in Las Vegas. Moments after their selection of Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton at No. 14 overall was announced, Baltimore traded receiver Marquise Brown and a third-round pick (No. 100) to the Arizona Cardinals for the 23rd overall pick. The Ravens then added a fourth-round pick by trading back to No. 25 overall, where they selected Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum following a trade with Buffalo. NFL.com
